USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 112.34; (P) 112.88; (R1) 113.17; More….

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains neutral at this point. On the upside, break of 113.43 and sustained trading above the channel resistance will argue that correction from 118.65 is already completed with three waves down to 107.31. Break of 114.49 will confirm this bullish case and target a test on 118.65 next. On the downside, considering bearish divergence condition in 4 hour MACD, break of 112.31 will suggest rejection from the channel resistance and turn bias back to the downside.

In the bigger picture, rise from 98.97 (2016 low) is seen as the second leg of the corrective pattern from 125.85 (2015 high). It’s unclear whether this this second leg has completed at 118.65 or not. But medium term outlook will be mildly bearish as long as 114.49 resistance holds. And, there is prospect of breaking 98.97 ahead. Meanwhile, break of 114.49 will bring retest of 125.85 high. But even in that case, we don’t expect a break there on first attempt.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 111.62; (P) 112.38; (R1) 112.82; More…

At this point, intraday bias in USD/JPY remains on the downside. Fall from 114.73 could extend lower. Decisive break of 111.64 support will argue that whole rebound from 107.31 has completed. In that case, deeper fall would be seen to 61.8% retracement of 107.31 to 114.73 at 101.14 and below. On the upside, though, break of 113.32 minor resistance will indicate that the pull back is completed and turn bias back to the upside.

In the bigger picture, medium term rise from 98.97 (2016 low) is not completed yet. It should resume after corrective fall from 118.65 completes. Break of 114.49 resistance will likely resume the rise to 61.8% projection of 98.97 to 118.65 from 107.31 at 119.47 first. Firm break there will pave the way to 100% projection at 126.99. This will be the key level to decide whether long term up trend is resuming. However, firm break of 111.64 support will dampen this view and turn focus back to 107.31 instead.

USD/JPY Weekly Outlook

USD/JPY stayed in range trading above 103.65 last week and outlook is unchanged. Initial bias remains neutral this week first. Larger decline from 111.71 is still in progress. Break of 103.65 should turn bias back to the downside for 103.17 low and below. This bearish case will remain favored as long as 105.67 resistance holds.

In the bigger picture, USD/JPY is still staying in long term falling channel that started back in 118.65 (Dec. 2016). Hence, there is no clear indication of trend reversal yet. The down trend could still extend through 101.18 low. On the upside, break of 106.10 resistance is needed to be the first signal of medium term reversal. Otherwise, outlook will remain bearish.

In the long term picture, the rise from 75.56 (2011 low) long term bottom to 125.85 (2015 high) is viewed as an impulsive move, no change in this view. Price actions from 125.85 are seen as a corrective move which could still extend. In case of deeper fall, downside should be contained by 61.8% retracement of 75.56 to 125.85 at 94.77. Up trend from 75.56 is expected to resume at a later stage for above 135.20/147.68 resistance zone.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 115.60; (P) 115.89; (R1) 116.16; More…

USD/JPY is staying in consolidation below 116.34 temporary top and intraday bias remains neutral. Downside of retreat should be contained well above 114.26 support turned resistance to bring another rally. On the upside, sustained break of 61.8% projection of 109.11 to 115.51 from 112.52 at 116.47 will pave the way to 100% projection at 118.90, which is close to 118.65 long term resistance.

In the bigger picture, no change in the view that rise from 102.58 is the third leg of the up trend from 101.18 (2020 low). Such rally should target a test on 118.65 (2016 high). Sustained break there will pave the way to 120.85 (2015 high) and raise the chance of long term up trend resumption. For now, this will remain the favored case as long as 112.52 support holds, in case of deep pull back.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 109.72; (P) 109.84; (R1) 109.97; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains neutral as sideway trading is still in progress. On the upside, break of 110.79 will resume the rebound from 108.71 to retest 111.65 high. On the downside, break of 109.10 will target 108.71 support first. Firm break there will resume the decline from 111.65 and target 38.2% retracement of 102.58 to 111.65 at 108.18 next.

In the bigger picture, medium term outlook is staying neutral with 111.71 resistance intact. The pattern from 101.18 could still extend with another falling leg. Sustained trading below 55 day EMA will bring deeper fall to 107.47 support and below. Nevertheless, strong break of 111.71 resistance will confirm completion of the corrective decline from 118.65 (2016 high). Further rise should then be seen to 114.54 and then 118.65 resistance.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 106.89; (P) 107.19; (R1) 107.68; More…

No change in USD/JPY’s outlook. Even though rebound from 104.62 might extend, the reaction from 38.2% retracement of 114.73 to 104.62 at 108.48 is crucial to determine the outlook. Firm break of 108.48 will add some credence to the case of trend reversal. And USD/JPY should target 61.8% retracement at 110.86 next. Nonetheless, rejection from 108.48 (which is close to 108.12 key resistance too), will retain bearishness. Break of 105.65 support will indicate that the rebound is completed and turn bias back to the downside for 104.62 and below.

In the bigger picture, medium term down trend from 118.65 (2016 high) is still in progress and extending. Build up in downside momentum argues that it might be extending the whole corrective pattern from 125.85 (2015 high). 100% projection of 118.65 to 108.12 from 114.73 at 104.20 will be a key level to watch as firm break there could bring downside acceleration. And in that case, 98.97 key support level (2016 low) would at least be breached. This bearish case will now be favored as long as 108.12 support turned resistance holds.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains neutral as consolidation from 137.22 is extending. Upside of recovery should be limited by 55 4H EMA (now at 140.18) and bring another decline. Break of 137.22 and sustained trading below 137.90 resistance turned support will confirm the larger bearish case, and target 127.20 and below.

In the bigger picture, fall from 145.06 is seen as the third leg of the corrective pattern from 151.93 (2022 high). Sustained break of 137.90 resistance turned support should confirm this case and target 127.20 (2023 low) and below. For now, this will remain the favored case as long as 145.06 resistance holds, even in case of strong rebound.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 107.79; (P) 108.21; (R1) 108.50; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains on the downside for the moment. Fall from 112.40 has just resumed. Sustained trading below 61.8% retracement of 104.69 to 112.40 at 107.63 will pave the way back to 104.62/9 key support. On the upside, break of 108.80 resistance is needed to indicate short term bottoming. Otherwise, outlook will remain bearish in case of recovery.

In the bigger picture, decline from 118.65 (Dec 2016) is still in progress, with the pair staying inside long term falling channel. Break of 104.62 will target 100% projection of 118.65 to 104.62 from 114.54 at 100.51. For now, we’d expect strong support above 98.97 (2016 low) to contain downside to bring rebound.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

A temporary low is in place at 106.78 in USD/JPY and intraday bias is turned neutral. Some consolidations would be seen first but upside of recovery should be limited buy 108.80 resistance to bring fall resumption. On the downside, break of 106.78 will extend the decline from 112.40 to retest 104.69 low.

Daily Pivots: (S1) 110.74; (P) 111.21; (R1) 111.67; More...

Intraday bias in USD/JPY stays neutral at this point. More consolidative trading could be seen first. Near term outlook will remain cautiously bullish as long as 106.75 support holds. Decisive break of 112.22 key resistance will carry larger bullish implication and target 114.54 resistance next. On the downside, break of 106.75 support will turn bias back to the downside for retesting 101.18 low instead.

In the bigger picture, at this point, whole decline from 118.65 (Dec 2016) continues to display a corrective look, with well channeling. There is no clear sign of completion yet. Break of 101.18 will target 98.97 (2016 low). Meanwhile, sustained break of 112.22 should confirm completion of the decline and turn outlook bullish for 118.65 and above.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 104.93; (P) 105.02; (R1) 105.12; More..

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains on the upside at this point. Current rise from 102.58 short term bottom is at least correcting the down trend from 111.71. Further rally should target 38.2% retracement of 111.71 to 102.58 at 106.06. On the downside, break of 104.82 minor support will turn intraday bias neutral first, and bring consolidation before staging another rally.

In the bigger picture, USD/JPY is still staying in long term falling channel that started back in 118.65 (Dec. 2016), and there is no clear indication of trend reversal yet. Though, sustained trading above 55 week EMA (now at 105.97) will be the first sign of reversal and turn focus to channel resistance (now at 110.31).

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 144.74; (P) 145.47; (R1) 146.19; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains neutral at this point. Outlook also stays bearish with 147.14 support turned resistance holds. On the downside, 144.72 minor support will suggest that rebound from 141.59 has completed at 146.58. Intraday bias will then be back on the downside for retesting 141.59 low. However, decisive break of 147.14 will dampen the bearish view, and bring stronger rally back towards 149.56/151.89 resistance zone.

In the bigger picture, current fall from 151.89 is seen as the third leg of the corrective pattern from 151.93 (2022 high). Deeper decline would be seen through 38.2% retracement of 127.20 to 151.89 at 142.45 to 61.8% retracement at 136.63. This will now remain the favored as long as 147.14 support turned resistance holds.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 109.56; (P) 109.99; (R1) 110.37; More…

USD/JPY is staying in consolidation in range of 109.11 /110.80. Intraday bias stays neutral at this point. With 111.70 resistance intact, near term outlook remains mildly bearish and deeper decline is expected. Below 109.11 will resume the fall from 114.36 and target 108.12 low first. Break will extend the whole corrective fall from 118.65 to 61.8% retracement of 98.97 to 118.65 at 106.48. We will look for bottoming sign there. Meanwhile, break of 110.70 will indicate near term reversal and turn bias back to the upside for 114.36 resistance instead.

In the bigger picture, price actions from 125.85 high are seen as a corrective pattern. It’s uncertain whether it’s completed yet. But in case of another fall, downside should be contained by 61.8% retracement of 75.56 to 125.85 at 94.77 to bring rebound. Overall, rise from 75.56 is still expected to resume later after the correction from 125.85 completes.

USD/JPY Weekly Outlook

USD/JPY stayed in range above 109.52 last week and initial bias stays neutral this week first. On the downside, sustained trading below 55 day EMA (now at 109.84) will suggest that it’s at least correcting the rise from 102..58. Deeper fall would be seen to 38.2% retracement of 102.58 to 111.65 at 108.18. For now, risk will stay on the downside as long as 111.65 resistance holds, in case of recovery.

In the bigger picture, medium term outlook is staying neutral with 111.71 resistance intact. Though, as notable support was seen from 55 day EMA, rise from 102.58 is mildly in favor to extend higher. Decisive break of 111.71/112.22 resistance will suggest long term bullish reversal. Rise from 101.18 could then target 118.65 resistance (Dec 2016) and above. However, sustained break of 55 day EMA would revive some medium term bearishness, and open up deep fall back towards 102.58 support.

In the long term picture, the rise from 75.56 (2011 low) long term bottom to 125.85 (2015 high) is viewed as an impulsive move, no change in this view. Price actions from 125.85 are seen as a corrective pattern which could still extend. In case of deeper fall, downside should be contained by 61.8% retracement of 75.56 to 125.85 at 94.77. Up trend from 75.56 is expected to resume at a later stage for above 135.20/147.68 resistance zone.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Intraday bias in USD/JPY stays neutral at this point. Immediate focus remains on 55 week EMA (now at 131.78). Decisive break there will pave the way to next fibonacci level at 121.43. On the upside, above 133.61 support turned resistance will turn intraday bias back to the upside for 138.16 resistance.

In the bigger picture, price actions from 151.93 medium term could be just a corrective pattern to up trend from 102.58 (2021 low). Strong support from 38.2% retracement of 102.58 to 151.93 at 133.07 and 55 week EMA (now at 131.76) will set the range for such corrective pattern. However, sustained break of 55 week EMA will pave the way to 61.8% retracement at 121.43.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 146.93; (P) 147.40; (R1) 147.76; More…

USD/JPY recovered after dipping to 145.88 today, drawing support from near term rising channel. Intraday bias remains neutral for the moment as consolidation form 147.88 could extend. But outlook remains bullish with 144.43 support intact. On the upside, above 147.88 will resume larger rise from 127.20, to retest 151.93 high.

In the bigger picture, while rise from 127.20 is strong, it could still be seen as the second leg of the corrective pattern from 151.93 (2022 high). Rejection by 151.93, followed by break of 137.22 support will indicate that the third leg of the pattern has started. However, sustained break of 151.93 will confirm resumption of long term up trend.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 107.60; (P) 108.11; (R1) 108.40; More…

As noted before, corrective rebound from 107.54 should have completed at 108.99, after rejection by 55 day EMA. Further fall should be seen and break of 107.53 support will likely send USD/JPY through 106.78 to resume the decline from 112.40. For now, near term outlook will remain bearish as long as 108.99 resistance holds.

In any case, break of 112.40 is needed to the first serious sign of medium term bullishness. Otherwise, further decline will remain in favor in case of rebound.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 114.79; (P) 115.05; (R1) 115.30; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains mildly on the downside at this point. Fall from 116.33 is seen seen as the third leg of the corrective pattern from 116.34. Deeper decline would be seen to 114.14 support. On the upside, however, break of 115.86 will turn bias back to the upside for 116.34 resistance instead.

This will remain the favored case as long as 55 week EMA (now at 111.31) holds.

USD/JPY Weekly Outlook

USD/JPY dropped to as low as 108.49 last week but recovered before closing. Initial bias is neutral this week first. On the upside, break of 110.00 will extend the rebound from 104.69. But we’d expect strong resistance from 61.8% retracement of 114.54 to 104.69 at 110.77 to limit upside. On the downside, break of 108.49 will target 107.77 support first. Break will confirm completion of the rebound and bring retest of 104.69 low.

In the bigger picture, while the rebound from 104.69 is strong, there is no change in the view that it’s a corrective move. That is, fall from 114.54, as part of the decline from 118.65 (2016 high), is not completed yet. Break of 104.62 will target 100% projection of 118.65 to 104.62 from 114.54 at 100.51, which is close to 100 psychological level. Nevertheless, sustained trading above 55 day EMA (now at 110.55) will dampen this bearish view and turn focus back to 114.54 resistance instead.

Daily Pivots: (S1) 148.93; (P) 149.13; (R1) 149.35; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains on the upside for the moment. Firm break of 150.87/89 resistance will confirm larger up trend resumption. Next near term target will be 61.8% projection of 140.25 to 150.87 from 146.47 at 153.03. On the downside, below 148.90 minor support will delay the bullish case and turn intraday bias neutral first. But outlook will now remain bullish as long as 146.47 support holds.

In the bigger picture, correction from 151.87 (2023) high could have completed at 140.25 already. Rise from 127.20 (2023 low), as part of the long term up trend, is probably ready to resume. Decisive break of 151.93 resistance (2022 high) will confirm this bullish case. Also, this will remain the favored case as long as 140.25 support holds, in case of another fall.
