USD/JPY Weekly Outlook

USD/JPY rebounded after dipping to 112.56 last week. The development argues that pull back from 118.65 could have completed already. Initial bias is cautiously on the upside for 118.65 first. Break will resume whole rise from 98.97 and target 125.85 key resistance. In case of another fall, we’d expect strong support from 38.2% retracement of 98.97 to 118.65 at 111.13 to contain downside and bring rebound.

In the bigger picture, price actions from 125.85 high are seen as a corrective pattern. The impulsive structure of the rise from 98.97 suggests that the correction is completed and larger up trend is resuming. Decisive break of 125.85 will confirm and target 61.8% projection of 75.56 to 125.85 from 98.97 at 130.04 and then 135.20 long term resistance. Rejection from 125.85 and below will extend the consolidation with another falling leg before up trend resumption.

In the long term picture, the rise from 75.56 long term bottom to 125.85 medium term top is viewed as an impulsive move. Price actions from 125.85 are seen as a corrective move which could still extend. But, up trend from 75.56 is expected to resume at a later stage for above 135.20/147.68 resistance zone.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 111.31; (P) 111.75; (R1) 112.02; More..

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains neutral for consolidation below 112.22 temporary top. Downside of retreat should be contained above 110.28 resistance turned support to bring rally resumption. On the upside, firm break of 112.40 resistance will affirm medium term bullishness and target 114.54 key resistance next.

In the bigger picture, current development argues that corrective fall from 118.65 (Dec 2016) might have completed with three waves down to 104.45 already. Focus is back of 114.54 key resistance. Decisive break there will confirm this case and bring resumption of whole rise from 98.97 (2016 low) towards 125.85 (2015 high).

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 147.71; (P) 148.03; (R1) 148.44; More…

No change in USD/JPY’s outlook as consolidation from 148.79 is still extending. Deeper retreat cannot be ruled out, but further rally is expected as long as 145.97 resistance turned support holds. Corrective fall from 151.89 should have completed at 140.25 already. Break of 148.79 will resume the rise from there for retesting 151.89/93 key resistance zone.

In the bigger picture, stronger than expected rebound from 140.25 dampened the original bearish review. Strong support from 55 W EMA (now at 141.89) is also a medium term bullish sign. Fall from 151.89 could be a correction to rise from 127.20 only. Decisive break of 151.89/93 will confirm resumption of long term up trend. This will now be the favored case as long as 140.25 support holds.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 112.13; (P) 113.27; (R1) 113.85; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains on the downside as correction from 118.65 extends. Downside should be contained by 38.2% retracement of 98.97 to 118.65 at 111.13 to complete the correction and bring rebound. On the upside, above 115.61 will target a test on 118.65 first. Break will resume whole rise from 98.97 and target 125.85 key resistance.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 112.16; (P) 112.61; (R1) 112.90; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains neutral for consolidation below 113.04 temporary top. Further rise is still expected as long as 110.86 support holds. We’d holding on to the view that corrective fall from 118.65 has completed with three waves down to 108.12 already. Break of 113.04 will target 115.49 resistance. Firm break there will resume larger rally from 98.97 to 125.85 high. However, break of 110.86 support will keep USD/JPY inside near term falling channel and will turn bias back to the downside for 108.12 and below to extend the decline from 118.65.

In the bigger picture, price actions from 125.85 high are seen as a corrective pattern. It’s uncertain whether it’s completed yet. But in case of another fall, downside should be contained by 61.8% retracement of 75.56 to 125.85 at 94.77 to bring rebound. Meanwhile, break of 115.49 resistance will extend the rise from 98.97 to retest 125.85. Overall, rise from 75.56 is still expected to resume later after the correction from 125.85 completes.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 109.93; (P) 110.16; (R1) 110.52; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY stays neutral with focus on 110.133 resistance. Sustained break there will argue that the choppy fall from 111.65 has completed, and turn bias back to the upside for retesting this high. Rejection by 110.33 will maintain near term bearishness. Break of 109.05 will target 38.2% retracement of 102.58 to 111.65 at 108.18.

In the bigger picture, medium term outlook is staying neutral with 111.71 resistance intact. Sustained trading below 55 day EMA would argue that the pattern from 101.18 is starting another falling leg, that could head back to 102.58 support and below. For now, outlook won’t turn bullish as long as 111.71 resistance holds, even in case of strong rebound.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 150.17; (P) 150.44; (R1) 150.81; More…

No change in USD/JPY’s outlook as range trading is still continuing. Intraday bias stays neutral at this point. In case of deeper retreat, downside should be contained by 148.79 resistance turned support to bring rebound. On the upside, break of 150.87 will resume 140.25 to 151.89/93 key resistance zone. Decisive break there will confirm larger up trend resumption of 155.50 projection level next.

In the bigger picture, rise from 140.25 is seen as resuming the trend from 127.20 (2023 low). Decisive break of 151.89/.93 resistance zone will confirm this bullish case and target 61.8% projection of 127.20 to 151.89 from 140.25 at 155.50. However, break of 148.79 resistance turned support will delay this bullish case, and extend the corrective pattern from 151.89 with another falling leg.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 129.79; (P) 130.04; (R1) 130.38; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains neutral as consolidation from 131.24 is still extending. Near term outlook remains bullish with 126.91 support intact. Break of 131.24 will resume recent up trend to 261.8% projection of 109.11 to 116.34 from 114.40 at 133.26. However, considering bearish divergence condition in 4 hour MACD, break of 126.91 will confirm short term topping and turn bias back to the downside for a correction.

In the bigger picture, current rally is seen as part of the long term up trend form 75.56 (2011 low). Sustained trading above 61.8% projection of 75.56 (2011 low) to 125.85 (2015 high) from 98.97 at 130.04 will pave the way to 100% projection at 149.26, which is close to 147.68 (1998 high). For now, this will remain the favored case as long as 121.27 support holds.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 112.73; (P) 112.96; (R1) 113.27; More..

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains neutral with focus on 113.09 resistance. Sustained break of 113.09 will indicate that fall from 114.20 has completed. And, intraday bias will be turned back to the upside for 114.54/73 key resistance zone. On the downside, below 112.30 will resume the fall from 114.20 to 111.37 support. Such decline is seen as the third leg of the consolidation pattern from 114.54. Downside should be contained by 38.2% retracement of 104.62 to 114.54 at 110.75 to bring rebound.

In the bigger picture, corrective fall from 118.65 (2016 high) should have completed with three waves down to 104.62. Decisive break of 114.73 resistance will likely resume whole rally from 98.97 (2016 low) to 100% projection of 98.97 to 118.65 from 104.62 at 124.30, which is reasonably close to 125.85 (2015 high). This will stay as the preferred case as long as 109.76 support holds. However, decisive break of 109.76 will dampen this bullish view and turns outlook mixed again.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 149.59; (P) 149.83; (R1) 150.33; More…

USD/JPY recovers further today but stays inside range of 148.79/151.69. Intraday bias remains neutral for the moment. Further rally is expected as long as 148.79 support holds. Firm break of 151.69 high will resume larger up trend. However, decisive break of 148.79 will indicate rejection by 151.93 key resistance, and bring deeper fall through 147.28 support.

In the bigger picture, immediate focus is on 151.93 resistance (2022 high). Rejection by 151.93, followed by sustained break of 145.06 resistance turned support will argue that rise from 127.20 has completed, and turn outlook bearish for 137.22 support and below. However, sustained break of 151.93 will confirm resumption of long term up trend. Next target will be 61.8% projection of 102.58 to 151.93 from 127.20 at 157.69.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 132.31; (P) 133.37; (R1) 133.97; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY stays neutral at this point and outlook is unchanged. Correction from 139.37 could still extend through 130.38. But downside should be contained above 126.35 support, at least on first attempt, to bring rebound. On the upside, firm break of 134.58 will turn bias to the upside for stronger rally to retest 139.37 high.

In the bigger picture, a medium term top should be in place at 139.37, on bearish divergence condition in daily MACD. Fall from there could be correcting whole up trend from 101.18 (2020 low). While deeper decline cannot be ruled out, outlook will stays bullish as long as 55 week EMA (now at 121.84) holds. Long term up trend is expected to resume through 139.37 at a later stage, after the correction finishes.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 145.91; (P) 146.59; (R1) 147.27; More…

USD/JPY is staying in consolidation from 147.88 and intraday bias remains neutral. While deeper pullback cannot be ruled out, outlook remains bullish with 144.43 support intact. On the upside, above 147.88 will resume larger rise from 127.20, to retest 151.93 high.

In the bigger picture, while rise from 127.20 is strong, it could still be seen as the second leg of the corrective pattern from 151.93 (2022 high). Rejection by 151.93, followed by break of 137.22 support will indicate that the third leg of the pattern has started. However, sustained break of 151.93 will confirm resumption of long term up trend.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 103.69; (P) 103.89; (R1) 104.17; More..

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains on the upside at this point. Rebound from 102.58 short term bottoming is targeting channel resistance, (now at 104.42). Sustained break there will argue that the down trend from 111.71 has finally completed. Stronger rise would be seen to 105.67 resistance for confirmation. Nevertheless, rejection by the channel resistance will maintain bearishness. Break of 103.59 minor support will turn bias back to the downside for retesting 102.58 low.

In the bigger picture, USD/JPY is still staying in long term falling channel that started back in 118.65 (Dec. 2016). Hence, there is no clear indication of trend reversal yet. The down trend could still extend through 101.18 low. On the upside, break of 105.67 resistance is needed to be the first signal of medium term reversal. Otherwise, outlook will remain bearish.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 105.45; (P) 106.11; (R1) 106.58; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains neutral and more consolidations could be seen. With 107.09 minor resistance intact, further decline is in favor. On the downside, break of 105.04 will resume larger decline from 112.40 to 104.69 low. Break will target 100% projection of 112.40 to 106.78 from 109.31 at 103.69. On the upside, though, break of 107.09 resistance will indicate short term bottoming. In this case, stronger rebound would be seen back to 55 day EMA (now at 107.86).

In the bigger picture, decline from 118.65 (Dec 2016) is still in progress and the pair is staying well inside long term falling channel. Break of 104.62 will target 100% projection of 118.65 to 104.62 from 114.54 at 100.51. For now, we’d expect strong support above 98.97 (2016 low) to contain downside to bring rebound. In any case, break of 112.40 is needed to the first serious sign of medium term bullishness. Otherwise, further decline will remain in favor in case of rebound.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 109.56; (P) 109.99; (R1) 110.37; More…

USD/JPY continues to stay in range of 109.11/110.80 and intraday bias remains neutral at this point. Overall outlook is unchanged. With 111.70 resistance intact, , near term outlook remains mildly bearish and deeper fall is expected. Below 109.11 will target 108.12 low first. Break will extend the whole corrective fall from 118.65 to 61.8% retracement of 98.97 to 118.65 at 106.48. We will look for bottoming sign there. Meanwhile, break of 110.70 will indicate near term reversal and turn bias back to the upside for 114.36 resistance instead.

In the bigger picture, price actions from 125.85 high are seen as a corrective pattern. It’s uncertain whether it’s completed yet. But in case of another fall, downside should be contained by 61.8% retracement of 75.56 to 125.85 at 94.77 to bring rebound. Overall, rise from 75.56 is still expected to resume later after the correction from 125.85 completes.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 108.67; (P) 109.50; (R1) 110.04; More…

USD/JPY drops to as low as 108.91 so far. Intraday bias remains on the downside for 107.31 low. Break will will target next fibonacci support at 106.48. On the upside, break of 110.18 support turned resistance will be the first sign of near term reversal and will turn bias back to the upside for 111.47 resistance.

In the bigger picture, current development argues that the corrective pattern from 118.65 is extending. There is risk of dropping further to 61.8% retracement of 98.97 to 118.65 at 106.48. But this level should provide strong support to contain downside and bring resumption of rise from 98.97. However, sustained break of 106.48 will now likely send USD?JPY through 98.97 to resume the corrective fall from 125.85 (2015 high).

USD/JPY Weekly Outlook

USD/JPY turned sideway after edging higher to 157.70 last week. Initial bias remains neutral this week first. Decisive break of 156.36 will confirm short term topping at 157.70, on bearish divergence condition in 4 H MACD. Intraday bias will be back on the downside for 153.59 support. Firm break there will target 151.86 and below as the third leg of the corrective pattern from 160.20.

In the bigger picture, a medium term top might be formed at 160.20. But as long as 150.87 resistance turned support holds, fall from there is seen as correcting rise from 150.25 only. However, decisive break of 150.87 will argue that larger correction is possibly underway, and target 146.47 support next.

In the long term picture, as long as 140.25 support holds, up trend from 75.56 (2011 low) is still in progress. Next target is 138.2% projection of 75.56 (2011 low) to 125.85 (2015 high) from 102.58 at 172.08.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 110.55; (P) 110.82; (R1) 111.02; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remain son the upside. Current rally should extend to trend line resistance at 112.33. Firm break there will target 114.73 resistance next. On the downside, below 110.60 minor support will turn bias neutral again and bring consolidations. But strong support should be seen from 109.14/110.02 support zone to bring rally resumption.

In the bigger picture, corrective decline from 118.65 (2016 high) has completed with three waves down to 104.62. Rise from 104.62 is possibly resuming the up trend from 98.97 (2016 low). This will be the preferred case as long as 55 day EMA (now at 108.65) holds. Decisive break of 114.73 resistance will confirm our view and target 118.65 and above.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 111.21; (P) 111.34; (R1) 111.55; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains neutral first and consolidation from 112.13 could extend. As long as 110.35 support hold, near term outlook remains bullish. Rise from 104.69 is expected to extend higher. On the upside, break of 112.13 will turn bias to the upside for 114.54 resistance next. However, firm break of 110.35 should confirm near term reversal and turn outlook bearish for 108.49 support and below.

In the bigger picture, strong rebound from 104.69 argues that decline from 118.65 (2016 high) has completed with three waves down to 104.69, after failing 104.62. More importantly, the rise from 98.97 (2016 low) could be resuming. Decisive break of 114.54 resistance will add more credence to this bullish case and target 118.65. This will now be the favored case as long as 110.35 support holds. However, firm break of 110.35 will mix up the medium term outlook again and turn focus back to 104.69 low.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 136.05; (P) 136.61; (R1) 137.46; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains on the downside at this point. Immediate focus is now on 55 week EMA (now at 131.76). Decisive break there will pave the way to next fibonacci level at 121.43. For now, risk will stay on the downside as long as 138.16 resistance holds, in case of recovery.

In the bigger picture, price actions from 151.93 medium term could be just a corrective pattern to up trend from 102.58 (2021 low). Strong support from 38.2% retracement of 102.58 to 151.93 at 133.07 and 55 week EMA (now at 131.76) will set the range for such corrective pattern. However, sustained break of 55 week EMA will pave the way to 61.8% retracement at 121.43.
