USD/JPY Weekly Outlook

USD/JPY jumped top 114.03 last week but failed to break through 114.20. Subsequent retreat was contained at 113.18 and recovered. Initial bias is neutral this week first. On the downside, below 113.18 will target 112.30 support first. Break there will target 111.37 and possibly below. On the upside, above 114.03 will target a test on 114.54/73 key resistance zone. Overall, price actions from 114.54 are seen as a consolidation pattern. Hence, even in case of deep decline, downside should be contained by 38.2% retracement of 104.62 to 114.54 at 110.75 to bring rebound.

In the bigger picture, corrective fall from 118.65 (2016 high) should have completed with three waves down to 104.62. Decisive break of 114.73 resistance will likely resume whole rally from 98.97 (2016 low) to 100% projection of 98.97 to 118.65 from 104.62 at 124.30, which is reasonably close to 125.85 (2015 high). This will stay as the preferred case as long as 109.76 support holds. However, decisive break of 109.76 will dampen this bullish view and turns outlook mixed again.

In the long term picture, the rise from 75.56 (2011 low) long term bottom to 125.85 top is viewed as an impulsive move, no change in this view. Price actions from 125.85 are seen as a corrective move which could still extend. In case of deeper fall, downside should be contained by 61.8% retracement of 75.56 to 125.85 at 94.77. Up trend from 75.56 is expected to resume at a later stage for above 135.20/147.68 resistance zone.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 156.70; (P) 156.87; (R1) 157.06; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY is turned neutral with current retreat. On the upside, above 157.78 will resume the rally from 151.86, as the second leg of the corrective pattern from 160.20, to 100% projection of 151.86 to 156.78 from 153.59 at 158.51. On the downside, below 155.83 will turn intraday bias to the downside for 153.59. Firm break there will target 151.86 and below as the third leg of the corrective pattern.

In the bigger picture, a medium term top might be formed at 160.20. But as long as 150.87 resistance turned support holds, fall from there is seen as correcting rise from 150.25 only. However, decisive break of 150.87 will argue that larger correction is possibly underway, and target 146.47 support next.

USD/JPY Weekly Outlook

USD/JPY edged higher to 113.25 last week but failed to sustain above medium term channel resistance. Initial bias is neutral this week first. With 111.46 minor support intact, further rise is in favor. Sustained break of medium term channel resistance will argue that correction from 118.65 is already completed with three waves down to 107.31. Break of 114.49 will confirm this bullish case and target a test on 118.65 next. On the downside, considering bearish divergence condition in 4 hour MACD, break of 111.46 will suggest rejection from the channel resistance and turn bias back to the downside.

In the bigger picture, rise from 98.97 (2016 low) is seen as the second leg of the corrective pattern from 125.85 (2015 high). It’s unclear whether this this second leg has completed at 118.65 or not. But medium term outlook will be mildly bearish as long as 114.49 resistance holds. And, there is prospect of breaking 98.97 ahead. Meanwhile, break of 114.49 will bring retest of 125.85 high. But even in that case, we don’t expect a break there on first attempt.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 109.74; (P) 110.28; (R1) 110.85; More…

USD/JPY weakens today but stays above 109.11 temporary low. Intraday bias remains neutral for the moment. As long as 111.70 resistance holds, near term outlook remains mildly bearish and deeper fall is expected. Below 109.11 will target 108.12 low first. Break will extend the whole corrective fall from 118.65 to 61.8% retracement of 98.97 to 118.65 at 106.48. We will look for bottoming sign there. Meanwhile, break of 110.70 will suggest near term reversal and turn bias back to the upside for 114.36 resistance instead.

In the bigger picture, price actions from 125.85 high are seen as a corrective pattern. It’s uncertain whether it’s completed yet. But in case of another fall, downside should be contained by 61.8% retracement of 75.56 to 125.85 at 94.77 to bring rebound. Overall, rise from 75.56 is still expected to resume later after the correction from 125.85 completes.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 106.64; (P) 106.94; (R1) 107.16; More...

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains on the downside for 106.07 support. Firm break there will extend the corrective pattern from 111.71 to 61.8% retracement of 101.18 to 111.71 at 105.20. On the upside, break of 107.54 resistance is needed to indicate completion of the decline. Otherwise, outlook will remain cautiously bearish in case of recovery.

In the bigger picture, USD/JPY is still staying in long term falling channel that started back in 118.65 (Dec 2016). Hence, there is no clear indication of trend reversal yet. The down trend could still extend through 101.18 low. However, sustained break of 112.22 should confirm completion of the down trend and turn outlook bullish for 118.65 and above.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 107.00; (P) 107.51; (R1) 107.81; More…

Intraday bias in USD?JPY remains on the downside for 106.78 support first. Break there will resume whole decline from 112.40 and target 104.69 low. On the upside, break of 108.37 will extend the correction from 106.78 with another rise, possibly through 108.99 resistance.

In the bigger picture, decline from 118.65 (Dec 2016) is still in progress, with the pair staying inside long term falling channel. Break of 104.62 will target 100% projection of 118.65 to 104.62 from 114.54 at 100.51. For now, we’d expect strong support above 98.97 (2016 low) to contain downside to bring rebound. In any case, break of 112.40 is needed to the first serious sign of medium term bullishness. Otherwise, further decline will remain in favor in case of rebound.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 135.43; (P) 136.00; (R1) 136.88; More…

With current retreat, a temporary top is formed in USD/JPY at 137.76, ahead of 137.90 resistance. Intraday bias is turned neutral for some consolidations first. Further rally will remain in favor as long as 135.13 resistance turned support holds. Decisive break of 137.90 will resume whole rebound from 127.20, and target 100% projection of 127.20 to 137.90 from 129.62 at 140.32. However, firm break of 135.13 will turn bias back to the downside for 133.00 support and below.

In the bigger picture, price actions from 151.93 high are currently seen as a corrective pattern to the long term up trend. The first leg should have completed at 127.20. Rebound from there is seen as the second leg. Sustained break of 31.8% retracement of 151.93 to 127.20 at 136.34 will bring stronger rebound to 61.8% retracement at 142.48. Meanwhile, break of 129.62 will argue that the third leg is starting through 127.20 low.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 110.13; (P) 110.41; (R1) 110.91; More…

Break of 110.84 suggests resumption of rebound from 108.10. Intraday bias is turned back to the upside for 111.39 high first. Break there will resume larger rebound from 104.62 and target 114.73 resistance. On the downside, though, break of 109.91 will turn bias to the downside and bring another fall towards 108.10 to extend the corrective pattern from 111.39.

In the bigger picture, at this point, we’re slightly favoring the case that corrective decline from 118.65 (2016 high) has completed with three waves down to 104.62. Above 111.39 will affirm this view and target 114.73 for confirmation. However, it should be noted that USD/JPY is bounded in medium term falling channel from 118.65 (2016 high). Sustained break of 61.8% retracement of 104.62 to 111.39 at 107.20 will likely resume the fall from 118.65 through 104.62 low.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 109.50; (P) 109.63; (R1) 109.80; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains neutral for consolidation below 109.89 temporary top. Another rise could be seen with 107.77 minor support intact. On the upside, above 109.89 will target 61.8% retracement of 114.54 to 104.69 at 110.77. We’d look for topping signal above there. On the downside, break of 107.77 will indicate completion of the rebound from 104.69. Intraday bias will be turned back to the downside for retesting this low.

In the bigger picture, price actions from 125.85 (2015 high) are seen as a long term corrective pattern, no change in this view. Apparently, such corrective pattern is not completed yet. Fall from 114.54 is seen as part of the falling leg from 118.65 (2016 high). Break of 104.62 will target 100% projection of 118.65 to 104.62 from 114.54 at 100.51, which is close to 100 psychological level. But in that case, we’d expect strong support from 98.97 to contain downside to bring reversal. Also, this bearish case will remain the preferred one as long as 114.54 resistance holds.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 112.53; (P) 112.73; (R1) 112.91; More..

USD/JPY is staying in range of 112.23/113.24 and intraday bias remains neutral first. As long as 113.24 minor resistance holds, another fall is mildly in favor. On the downside, break of 112.23 will target 111.37 and possibly below. But still, price actions from 114.54 are seen as a consolidation pattern. Hence, even in case of deep decline, downside should be contained by 38.2% retracement of 104.62 to 114.54 at 110.75 to bring rebound. Larger rise from 104.62 is expected to resume later. On the upside, above 113.24 minor resistance will turn bias back to the upside for 114.03 resistance.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 132.58; (P) 133.57; (R1) 134.84; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains neutral for the moment. Correction from 139.37 could still extend through 130.38. But downside should be contained above 126.35 support, at least on first attempt, to bring rebound. On the upside, firm break of 134.58 will turn bias to the upside for stronger rally to retest 139.37 high.

In the bigger picture, a medium term top should be in place at 139.37, on bearish divergence condition in daily MACD. Fall from there could be correcting whole up trend from 101.18 (2020 low). While deeper decline cannot be ruled out, outlook will stays bullish as long as 55 week EMA (now at 121.84) holds. Long term up trend is expected to resume through 139.37 at a later stage, after the correction finishes.

USD/JPY Weekly Outlook

USD/JPY’s decline from 114.54 resumed last week and reached as low as 111.37. Initial bias stays on the downside for 38.2% retracement of 104.62 to 114.54 at 110.75. As such fall is seen as part of medium term correction, we’ll look for bottoming signal above 109.76 key support. On the upside, break of 112.88 resistance will suggest that the fall has completed and turn bias back to the upside.

Daily Pivots: (S1) 112.72; (P) 113.33; (R1) 113.86; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains on the downside as this point as correction fall from 114.54 might extend. Sustained trading below 38.2% retracement of 110.37 to 114.54 at 112.94 will target 61.8% retracement at 111.96. On the upside, above 113.55 minor resistance will bring retest on 114.54 and 114.73 key resistance first.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 113.75; (P) 113.95; (R1) 114.18; More…

USD/JPY rebounds strongly after drawing support from 4 hour 55 EMA but it’s staying below 114.94 resistance. Intraday bias remains neutral first. On the upside, decisive break of 114.94 resistance should confirm completion of the corrective pull back from 118.65. This would be supported by a double bottom pattern (111.58, 111.68). In such case, intraday bias will be turned to the upside for retesting 118.65. In case of another decline, we’d still expect strong support from 38.2% retracement of 98.97 to 118.65 at 111.13 to contain downside and bring rebound.

In the bigger picture, price actions from 125.85 high are seen as a corrective pattern. The impulsive structure of the rise from 98.97 suggests that the correction is completed and larger up trend is resuming. Decisive break of 125.85 will confirm and target 61.8% projection of 75.56 to 125.85 from 98.97 at 130.04 and then 135.20 long term resistance. Rejection from 125.85 and below will extend the consolidation with another falling leg before up trend resumption.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 108.39; (P) 108.55; (R1) 108.84; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains neutral as consolidation from 108.93 might still extend. In case of another fall, downside should be contained well above 106.48 support. On the upside, above 108.93 will target 109.31 key resistance. Decisive break there will carry larger bullish implications next target will be 100% projection of 104.45 to 108.47 from 106.48 at 110.50.

In the bigger picture, strong support was seen from 104.62 again. Yet, there is no confirmation of medium term reversal. Corrective decline from 118.65 (Dec. 2016) could still extend lower. But in that case, we’d expect strong support above 98.97 (2016 low) to contain downside to bring rebound. Meanwhile, on the upside, break of 112.40 key resistance will be a strong sign of start of medium term up trend.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 108.78; (P) 109.22; (R1) 109.98; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains neutral at this point. As noted before, larger decline from 114.73 is possibly still in progress. Break of 108.27 will also resume the medium term correction from 118.65. That will send USD/JPY through 107.31 to 106.48 fibonacci level. Nonetheless, above 110.47 will turn intraday bias back to the upside and bring stronger rebound.

In the bigger picture, current development argues that the corrective pattern from 118.65 is extending. There is risk of dropping further to 61.8% retracement of 98.97 to 118.65 at 106.48. But this level should provide strong support to contain downside and bring resumption of rise from 98.97. However, sustained break of 106.48 will now likely send USD/JPY through 98.97 to resume the corrective fall from 125.85 (2015 high).

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

USD/JPY’s correction from 160.20 short term top extended with another dip to 152.99, but quickly recovered again. For now, risk will be mildly on the downside as long as 157.98 resistance holds. Deeper pullback would be seen to 55 D EMA (now at 152.25), and possibly further to 61.8% retracement of 146.47 to 160.20 at 151.71. But strong support should be seen from 150.87 to bring rebound.

In the bigger picture, current rise from 140.25 is seen as the third leg of the up trend from 127.20 (2023 low). Next target is 100% projection of 127.20 to 151.89 from 140.25 at 164.94. Outlook will remain bullish as long as 150.87 resistance turned support holds, even in case of deep pullback.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 109.30; (P) 109.42; (R1) 109.57; More..

USD/JPY is staying in consolidation from 109.72 and intraday bias remains neutral first. As long as 108.27 support holds, outlook remains bullish for further rally. On the upside, break of 109.72 will resume the rise from 104.45 for 100% projection of 104.45 to 108.47 from 106.48 at 110.50. However, sustained break of 108.27 support will indicate near term reversal and turn outlook bearish.

In the bigger picture, there is no confirmation of medium term reversal.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 109.12; (P) 109.58; (R1) 109.84; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains neutral as range trading continues. On the upside, above 110.44 will turn bias back to the upside for 110.79, and then 111.65 high. On the downside, break of 109.10 will argue that larger fall from 111.65 is resuming. Deeper decline should then be seen to 108.71 support first, and then 38.2% retracement of 102.58 to 111.65 at 108.18 next.

In the bigger picture, medium term outlook is staying neutral with 111.71 resistance intact. The pattern from 101.18 could still extend with another falling leg. Sustained trading below 55 day EMA will bring deeper fall to 107.47 support and below. Nevertheless, strong break of 111.71 resistance will confirm completion of the corrective decline from 118.65 (2016 high). Further rise should then be seen to 114.54 and then 118.65 resistance.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 141.43; (P) 144.38; (R1) 147.10; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY is turned neutral wit h break of 144.53 minor resistance and some consolidations would be seen. But recovery should be limited below 147.14 support turned resistance to bring another fall. On the downside, break of 141.59 and sustained trading below 142.45 fibonacci level will pave the way to next fibonacci level at 136.63.

In the bigger picture, current fall from 151.89 is seen as the third leg of the corrective pattern from 151.93 (2022 high). Deeper decline would be seen to through 38.2% retracement of 127.20 to 151.89 at 142.45 to 61.8% retracement at 136.63. This will now remain the favored as long as 147.14 support turned resistance holds.
