USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 119.21; (P) 119.36; (R1) 119.61; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains on the upside at this point. Current up trend should target 100% projection of 109.11 to 116.34 from 114.40 at 121.63 next. On the downside, below 119.28 minor support will turn intraday bias neutral and bring consolidation. But downside should be contained well above 116.34 resistance turned support to bring another rally.

In the bigger picture, the break of 118.65 resistance (2016 high) suggest that up trend from 98.97 (2016 low) is resuming, with rise from 101.18 (2020 low) as the third leg. Medium term outlook will remain bullish as long as 113.46 low. Sustained trading above 118.65 will pave the way to 125.85 (2015 high).

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 113.38; (P) 113.58; (R1) 113.76; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains neutral as range trading continues. On the downside, sustained break of 112.71 will argue that it’s already correcting whole rise from 102.58. Deeper fall would be seen to 38.2% retracement of 102.58 to 115.51 at 110.57. On the upside, break of 113.94 minor resistance will turn bias back to the upside for retesting 115.51 high instead.

In the bigger picture, no change in the view that rise from 102.58 is the third leg of the up trend from 101.18 (2020 low). Such rally should target a test on 118.65 (2016 high) on resumption. However, firm break of 109.11 structural support will argue that the trend might have reversed and bring deeper fall to 107.47 support and possibly below.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 113.85; (P) 114.21; (R1) 114.91; More…

USD/JPY’s rally resumed after brief consolidation and reaches as high as 114.54 so far. Intraday bias is back on the upside for 114.73 key resistance. Decisive break there will confirm larger bullish case. Next target will be 118.65 resistance. On the downside, break of 113.51 support is needed to indicate short term topping. Otherwise, outlook will remain bullish in case of retreat.

In the bigger picture, corrective fall from 118.65 (2016 high) should have completed with three waves down to 104.62. Decisive break of 114.73 resistance will likely resume whole rally from 98.97 (2016 low) to 100% projection of 98.97 to 118.65 from 104.62 at 124.30, which is reasonably close to 125.85 (2015 high). This will stay as the preferred case as long as 109.76 support holds.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 111.12; (P) 111.28; (R1) 111.40; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains neutral as it’s bounded in consolidation below 111.78 temporary top. Further rise is favor with 110.63 minor support intact. Above 111.78 will target channel resistance (now at 112.87). Sustained break there will suggest that whole pull back from 118.65 has completed at 108.12 already. In such case, further rise should be seen to 114.36 resistance for confirmation. However, break of 110.63 will turn bias back to the downside for 108.81 instead.

In the bigger picture, price actions from 125.85 high are seen as a corrective pattern. It’s uncertain whether it’s completed yet. But in case of another fall, downside should be contained by 61.8% retracement of 75.56 to 125.85 at 94.77 to bring rebound. Overall, rise from 75.56 is still expected to resume later after the correction from 125.85 completes.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 113.01; (P) 113.53; (R1) 113.99; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains neutral at this point. As it’s still holding on to 112.95 support, near term outlook remains bullish. On the upside, sustained break of 114.49 key resistance will pave the way to retest 118.65 high. However, break of 112.95 support will now indicate rejection from 114.49 and turn bias to the downside for 111.64 support and below.

In the bigger picture, medium term rise from 98.97 (2016 low) is not completed yet. It should resume after corrective fall from 118.65 completes. Break of 114.49 resistance will likely resume the rise to 61.8% projection of 98.97 to 118.65 from 107.31 at 119.47 first. Firm break there will pave the way to 100% projection at 126.99. This will be the key level to decide whether long term up trend is resuming.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 112.40; (P) 112.67; (R1) 113.01; More….

USD/JPY is still bounded tight range below 113.25 and intraday bias remains neutral for the moment. On the upside, sustained break of medium term channel resistance will argue that correction from 118.65 is already completed with three waves down to 107.31. Break of 114.49 will confirm this bullish case and target a test on 118.65 next. On the downside, considering bearish divergence condition in 4 hour MACD, break of 111.46 will suggest rejection from the channel resistance and turn bias back to the downside.

In the bigger picture, rise from 98.97 (2016 low) is seen as the second leg of the corrective pattern from 125.85 (2015 high). It’s unclear whether this this second leg has completed at 118.65 or not. But medium term outlook will be mildly bearish as long as 114.49 resistance holds. And, there is prospect of breaking 98.97 ahead. Meanwhile, break of 114.49 will bring retest of 125.85 high. But even in that case, we don’t expect a break there on first attempt.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 109.71; (P) 109.83; (R1) 110.00; More..

USD/JPY recovers notably today but stays below 110.14 temporary top. Intraday bias remains neutral first. Further rise remains in favor as long as 109.53 minor support holds. Firm break of 110.28 will resume whole rally from 104.45 for channel resistance (now at 111.16). On the downside, however, break of 109.53 will turn bias to the downside for 108.30 support instead.

In the bigger picture, there is no change in the bearish outlook yet in spite of the rebound from 104.45. The pair is staying in long term falling channel that started at 118.65 (Dec. 2016). Rise from 104.45 is seen as a correction and the down trend could still extend through 104.45 low. However, sustained break of the channel resistance will be an important sign of bullish reversal and target 114.54 resistance for confirmation.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 147.31; (P) 147.68; (R1) 148.12; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains neutral for the moment. On the downside, sustained break of 38.2% retracement of 140.25 to 150.87 at 146.81 will argue that fall from 150.87 is reversing the whole rally from 140.25. In this case, deeper decline would be seen to 61.8% retracement at 144.30 and below. Nevertheless, strong support from 146.81, followed by break of 148.29 minor resistance resistance, will argue that fall from 150.87 is merely a correction, which has completed already. Retest of 150.87 should be seen next.

In the bigger picture, no change in the view that price action from 151.89 (2023 high) are correction to up trend from 127.20 (2023 low). The question is whether this correction has completed at 140.25, or extending with fall from 150.87 as the third leg. Sustained break of above mentioned 146.81 fibonacci level will favor the latter case. But even so, downside should be contained by 50% retracement of 127.20 to 151.89 at 139.54.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 109.31; (P) 109.55; (R1) 109.69; More…

No change in USD/JPY’s outlook as rebound from 107.47 is in favor to continue. Further rise would be seen to retest 110.95 high. On the downside, however, break of 108.34 support will turn bias back to the downside for 107.47 support and below. Overall, USD/JPY was once again supported by 55 day EMA, which gives mild near term bullish favor.

In the bigger picture, medium term outlook is staying neutral with 111.71 resistance intact. We’d monitor the structure of the fall from 110.95, to assess whether it’s just correction to rise from 102.58 to 110.95, or a leg of a range pattern between 101.18 and 111.71, or starting another leg of the long term down trend.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 110.30; (P) 110.87; (R1) 111.30; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains neutral for the moment. Near term outlook is unchanged. The corrective decline from 113.17 might extend lower. But downside should be contained by 38.2% retracement of 104.62 to 113.17 at 109.90 to bring rebound. On the upside, above 111.42 will target 112.14 minor resistance first. Break will argue that larger rally is possibly resuming for above 113.17.

This will stay as the preferred case as long as 109.36 support holds.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 109.07; (P) 109.41; (R1) 109.73; More…

USD/JPY’s rebound from 108.27 extends higher today. Break of 110.18 support turned resistance is taken as the first sign of near term reversal. Intraday bias is turned back to the upside for 111.47 resistance first. Sustained break there will also have 55 day EMA (now at 11.39) firmly taken out. In such case, further rise would be seen back to 113.38/114.73 resistance zone. On the downside, however, below 109.22 minor support will turn focus back to 108.27 instead.

In the bigger picture, current development argues that the corrective pattern from 118.65 is extending. There is risk of dropping further to 61.8% retracement of 98.97 to 118.65 at 106.48. But this level should provide strong support to contain downside and bring resumption of rise from 98.97. However, sustained break of 106.48 will now likely send USD/JPY through 98.97 to resume the corrective fall from 125.85 (2015 high).

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 107.60; (P) 108.11; (R1) 108.40; More…

As noted before, corrective rebound from 107.54 should have completed at 108.99, after rejection by 55 day EMA. Further fall should be seen and break of 107.53 support will likely send USD/JPY through 106.78 to resume the decline from 112.40. For now, near term outlook will remain bearish as long as 108.99 resistance holds.

In the bigger picture, decline from 118.65 (Dec 2016) is still in progress, with the pair staying inside long term falling channel. Break of 104.62 will target 100% projection of 118.65 to 104.62 from 114.54 at 100.51. For now, we’d expect strong support above 98.97 (2016 low) to contain downside to bring rebound. In any case, break of 112.40 is needed to the first serious sign of medium term bullishness. Otherwise, further decline will remain in favor in case of rebound.

USD/JPY Weekly Outlook

USD/JPY edged higher to 110.16 last week but turned sideway since then. Initial bias remains neutral this week first. On the upside, break of 110.16 will extend the rebound from 104.69. But we’d expect strong resistance from 61.8% retracement of 114.54 to 104.69 at 110.77 to limit upside. On the downside, break of 108.49 support will now confirm completion of the rebound and bring retest of 104.69 low. However, sustained trading above 110.77 will dampen our bearish view and target a test on 114.54 resistance instead.

In the bigger picture, while the rebound from 104.69 is strong, there is no change in the view that it’s a corrective move. That is, fall from 114.54, as part of the decline from 118.65 (2016 high), is not completed yet. Break of 104.62 will target 100% projection of 118.65 to 104.62 from 114.54 at 100.51, which is close to 100 psychological level. Nevertheless, sustained trading above 55 day EMA (now at 110.41) will dampen this bearish view and turn focus back to 114.54 resistance instead.

In the long term picture, the rise from 75.56 (2011 low) long term bottom to 125.85 (2015 high) is viewed as an impulsive move, no change in this view. Price actions from 125.85 are seen as a corrective move which could still extend. In case of deeper fall, downside should be contained by 61.8% retracement of 75.56 to 125.85 at 94.77. Up trend from 75.56 is expected to resume at a later stage for above 135.20/147.68 resistance zone.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 113.42; (P) 113.85; (R1) 114.19; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains neutral and consolidation from 114.69 could continue. On the upside, firm break of 114.69 will resume the larger up trend to 100% projection of 102.58 to 111.65 from 109.11 at 118.18 next. Break of 113.24 will bring deeper pull back, but downside should be contained above 112.07 resistance turned support to bring rebound.

In the bigger picture, corrective decline from 118.65 (2016 high) should have completed at 101.18 already. Rise from the 102.58 is seen as the third leg of the up trend from 101.18. Next target is 114.54 resistance and then 118.65 high. This will now be the preferred case as long as 109.11 support hold, even in case of deep pull back.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 105.85; (P) 106.53; (R1) 106.90; More…

USD/JPY’s medium term decline from 118.65 resumed by breaking 105.54 and reaches as low as 105.24 so far. Intraday bias remains on the downside for 100% projection of 118.65 to 108.12 from 114.73 at 104.20 next. Firm break there will target 98.97 key support level. On the upside, above 106.37 minor resistance will turn bias neutral first. But outlook will remain bearish as long as 107.67 resistance holds.

In the bigger picture, current development argues that the corrective pattern from 118.65 is extending. The solid break of 61.8% retracement of 98.97 to 118.65 at 106.48 now suggests that the pattern from 125.85 high is possibly extending. Deeper fall could be seen through 98.97 key support (2016 low). This bearish case will now be favored as long as 110.47 resistance holds.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 130.50; (P) 130.79; (R1) 130.96; More…

USD/JPY’s decline from 161.93 resumed by breaking through 130.55 support and intraday bias is back on the downside. Next target is 61.8% projection of 148.44 to 133.61 from 138.16 at 128.99. Firm break there could trigger downside acceleration to 100% projection at 123.33. For now, outlook will remain bearish as long as 134.49 support holds, in case of recovery.

In the bigger picture, a medium term top was in place at 151.93. Sustained trading below 55 week EMA (now at 131.65) would raise the chance of bearish trend reversal. Deeper fall would be seen to 61.8% retracement of 102.58 to 151.93 at 121.43. This will now remain the favored case as long as 55 day EMA (now at 137.54) holds.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 108.69; (P) 109.26; (R1) 109.59; More…

USD/JPY continues to engage in consolidative trading above 108.59 temporary low. Intraday bias remains neutral for the moment. Near term outlook stays bearish with 110.94 resistance intact and deeper decline is expected. Break of 108.59 will target a test on 108.12 low. Whole corrective decline from 118.65 is possibly resuming and break of 108.12 will target 61.8% retracement of 98.97 to 118.65 at 106.48. Nonetheless, firm break of 110.94 will indicate short term bottoming and turn bias back to the upside.

In the bigger picture, the corrective structure of the fall from 118.65 suggests that rise from 98.97 is not completed yet. Break of 118.65 will target a test on 125.85 high. At this point, it’s uncertain whether rise from 98.97 is resuming the long term up trend from 75.56, or it’s a leg in the consolidation from 125.85. Hence, we’ll be cautious on topping as it approaches 125.85. If fall from 118.65 extends lower, downside should be contained by 61.8% retracement of 98.97 to 118.65 at 106.48 and bring rebound.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 104.45; (P) 104.89; (R1) 105.16; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains on the downside for 104.20 projection level first. Sustained break there will pave the way to 98.97 (2016 low). On the upside, break of 106.63 resistance is needed to indicate short term bottoming. Otherwise, outlook will remain bearish in case of recovery.

In the bigger picture, medium term down trend from 118.65 (2016 high) is still in progress and extending. Build up in downside momentum argues that it might be extending the whole corrective pattern from 125.85 (2015 high). 100% projection of 118.65 to 108.12 from 114.73 at 104.20 will be a key level to watch as firm break there could bring downside acceleration. And in that case, 98.97 key support level (2016 low) would at least be breached. This bearish case will now be favored as long as 108.12 support turned resistance holds.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 112.29; (P) 113.87; (R1) 113.20; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains neutral for the moment. Corrective fall from 118.65 could extend lower through 111.58. But we’d still expect strong support from 38.2% retracement of 98.97 to 118.65 at 111.13 to contain downside and bring rebound. On the upside, above 114.94 resistance should confirm completion of pull back from 118.65. In such case, intraday bias will be turned back to the upside for retesting 118.65.

In the bigger picture, price actions from 125.85 high are seen as a corrective pattern. The impulsive structure of the rise from 98.97 suggests that the correction is completed and larger up trend is resuming. Decisive break of 125.85 will confirm and target 61.8% projection of 75.56 to 125.85 from 98.97 at 130.04 and then 135.20 long term resistance. Rejection from 125.85 and below will extend the consolidation with another falling leg before up trend resumption.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 109.97; (P) 110.26; (R1) 110.53; More..

USD/JPY dropped to as low as 110.13 so far and there is no sign of bottoming yet. The break of 38.2% retracement of 104.62 to 114.54 at 110.75 and current downside acceleration now increases the chance of bearish reversal. Intraday bias is stays on the downside for 109.76 support next. Break will target 61.8% retracement at 108.40. On the upside, break of 111.46 resistance is needed to indicate short term bottoming. Otherwise, outlook will stay bearish even in case of recovery.

In the bigger picture, price actions from 125.85 (2015 high) are seen as a long term corrective pattern, no change in this view. Apparently, such corrective pattern is not completed yet. Break of 109.76 support will start another medium term down leg to 98.97/104.62 support zone. ON the upside, break of 114.73 resistance will likely extend the rise from 98.97 through 118.65 resistance.
