USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 106.46; (P) 106.68; (R1) 106.98; More..

Outlook in USD/JPY remains unchanged and intraday bias stays on the upside. Current rise from 102.58 is in progress for 61.8% retracement of 111.71 to 102.58 at 108.22. Sustained break there will raise the chance of larger bullish reversal, and target 111.71 resistance. On the downside, below 106.21 minor support will turn intraday bias neutral and bring consolidations. But outlook will stay bullish as long as 104.91 support holds.

In the bigger picture, USD/JPY is still staying in long term falling channel that started back in 118.65 (Dec. 2016), and there is no clear indication of trend reversal yet. Though, sustained trading above 55 week EMA (now at 105.90) will be the first sign of reversal and turn focus to channel resistance (now at 110.02).

Daily Pivots: (S1) 105.25; (P) 105.35; (R1) 105.52; More...

No change in USD/JPY’s outlook and intraday bias remains neutral first. Another rise is still in favor with 104.94 support intact. On the upside, break of 106.10 will resume the rebound from 104.00 for 106.94 resistance. Sustained break there should confirm completion of the whole decline from 111.71. On the downside, break of 104.94 support will revive near term bearishness and target a test on 104.00 low instead.

In the bigger picture, USD/JPY is still staying in long term falling channel that started back in 118.65 (Dec. 2016). Hence, there is no clear indication of trend reversal yet. The down trend could still extend through 101.18 low. However, sustained break of 112.22 resistance should confirm completion of the down trend and turn outlook bullish for 118.65 and above.

With the retreat from 107.00, intraday bias in USD/JPY is turned neutral first. Another rise is mildly in favor as long as 105.31 minor support holds. Above 107.00 will target 38.2% retracement of 114.73 to 104.62 at 108.48. At this point, there is no confirmation of trend reversal yet. Hence, we’ll look at the reaction from 108.48 (which is close to 108.12 too) to assess the chance. On the downside, below 105.31 minor support will indicate that the rebound is completed and turn bias back to the downside for 104.62 and below.

In the bigger picture, medium term down trend from 118.65 (2016 high) is still in progress and extending. Build up in downside momentum argues that it might be extending the whole corrective pattern from 125.85 (2015 high). 100% projection of 118.65 to 108.12 from 114.73 at 104.20 will be a key level to watch as firm break there could bring downside acceleration. And in that case, 98.97 key support level (2016 low) would at least be breached. This bearish case will now be favored as long as 108.12 support turned resistance holds.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 106.74; (P) 106.95; (R1) 107.21; More..

USD/JPY rises further to as high as 107.48 so far. Break of near term channel resistance indicates upside acceleration. Intraday bias stays on the upside for 61.8% retracement of 111.71 to 102.58 at 108.22. On the downside, break of 106.21 resistance turned support is needed to indicate short term topping. Otherwise, outlook will stay cautiously bullish in case of retreat.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 136.46; (P) 136.86; (R1) 137.53; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY stays neutral for the moment. Overall, price actions from 139.37 are seen as a corrective pattern, with rise from 130.38 has the second leg. Above 137.70 will extend the rebound but upside should be limited by 139.37. On the downside, firm break of 135.57 will suggest that the third leg of the pattern has started, and turn intraday bias back to the downside for 131.72 support first.

In the bigger picture, price actions from 139.37 medium term top are seen as a corrective pattern to up trend from 101.18 (2020 low). While deeper decline cannot be ruled out, outlook will stays bullish as long as 55 week EMA (now at 123.21) holds. Long term up trend is expected to resume through 139.37 at a later stage, after the correction finishes.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 110.98; (P) 111.17; (R1) 111.39; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains neutral at this point. We’re holding on to the view that correction from 113.17 should have completed at 109.76 already. Above 111.48 will turn bias to the upside for 112.14. Break will pave the way to retest 113.17 high. Meanwhile, below 110.74 minor support will dampen the bullish case and turn focus back to 109.76 instead.

In the bigger picture, corrective fall from 118.65 (2016 high) should have completed with three waves down to 104.62. Decisive break of 114.73 resistance will likely resume whole rally from 98.97 (2016 low) to 100% projection of 98.97 to 118.65 from 104.62 at 124.30, which is reasonably close to 125.85 (2015 high). This will stay as the preferred case as long as 109.36 support holds. However, decisive break of 109.36 will mix up the outlook again. And deeper fall should be seen back to 61.8% retracement of 104.62 to 113.17 at 107.88 and below.

USD/JPY Weekly Outlook

USD/JPY’s breach of 110.89 last week suggests that rebound from 108.10 is resuming. Initial bias stays mildly on the upside this week for 111.39 high. Break there will also resume the rise from 104.62 and target 114.73 key resistance. However, below 110.05 will turn bias to the downside for 109.36 to extend the corrective pattern from 111.39.

In the bigger picture, at this point, we’re slightly favoring the case that corrective decline from 118.65 (2016 high) has completed with three waves down to 104.62. Above 111.39 will affirm this view and target 114.73 for confirmation. However, it should be noted that USD/JPY is bounded in medium term falling channel from 118.65 (2016 high). Sustained break of 61.8% retracement of 104.62 to 111.39 at 107.20 will likely resume the fall from 118.65 through 104.62 low.

In the long term picture, the rise from 75.56 (2011 low) long term bottom to 125.85 top is viewed as an impulsive move, no change in this view. Price actions from 125.85 are seen as a corrective move which could still extend. In case of deeper fall, downside should be contained by 61.8% retracement of 75.56 to 125.85 at 94.77. Up trend from 75.56 is expected to resume at a later stage for above 135.20/147.68 resistance zone.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 112.66; (P) 112.98; (R1) 113.56; More…

USD/JPY’s rally resumed after brief consolidation and reaches as high as 113.37 so far. Intraday bias is back on the upside for 115.49 resistance. We’re holding on to the view that corrective fall from 118.65 could be completed with three waves down to 108.12. Break of 115.49 will resume larger rally from 98.97 to 125.85 high. On the downside, break of 112.08 support is needed to indicate near term topping. Otherwise, outlook will remain bullish in case of retreat.

In the bigger picture, price actions from 125.85 high are seen as a corrective pattern. It’s uncertain whether it’s completed yet. But in case of another fall, downside should be contained by 61.8% retracement of 75.56 to 125.85 at 94.77 to bring rebound. Meanwhile, break of 115.49 resistance will extend the rise from 98.97 to retest 125.85. Overall, rise from 75.56 is still expected to resume later after the correction from 125.85 completes.

USD/JPY Weekly Outlook

USD/JPY surged to as high as 112.79 last week and formed a temporary top there with subsequent retreat. Initial bias is neutral this week for consolidation first. Downside should be contained well above 111.13 resistance turned support to bring rally resumption. Current development affirms the case of medium term reversal. Above 112.79 will target 61.8% projection of 104.62 to 111.39 from 109.36 at 113.54 first. Break will put focus on 114.73 key resistance for confirming our bullish view.

In the bigger picture, current development, with the solid break of medium term channel resistance from 118.65 (2016 high), affirm our view that corrective fall from there has completed with three waves down to 104.62. Decisive break of 114.73 resistance will likely resume whole rally from 98.97 (2016 low) to 100% projection of 98.97 to 118.65 from 104.62 at 124.30, which is reasonably close to 125.85 (2015 high). This will now be the preferred case as long as 119.36 support holds.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 110.26; (P) 110.46; (R1) 110.66; More…

USD/JPY is staying in range of 110.00/111.13 and intraday bias remains neutral. On the downside, break of 110.00 resistance turned support will suggest rejection by 110.77 and the rebound from 104.69 has likely completed. Intraday bias will be turned back to the downside for 108.49 support for confirmation. Nevertheless, break of 111.13 should confirm resumption of rise from 104.69 for 114.54 resistance.

In the bigger picture, while the rebound from 104.69 was stronger than expected, it couldn’t sustain above 55 day EMA yet. Outlook is turned mixed first. On the downside, break of 108.49 support will revive that case that such rebound was a correction. And, larger down trend is still in progress for another low below 104.62. But sustained trading above 55 day EMA will turn focus to 114.54. Decisive break there will confirmation completion of the decline from 118.65 (2016 high).

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 110.95; (P) 111.13; (R1) 111.39; More…

USD/JPY is staying in range below 112.13 as consolidation continues. Intraday bias remains neutral first. As long as 110.35 support holds, near term outlook remains bullish and rise from 104.69 is still in favor to resume. On the upside, break of 112.13 will target 114.54 resistance next. However, firm break of 110.35 should confirm near term reversal and turn outlook bearish for 108.49 support and below.

In the bigger picture, strong rebound from 104.69 argues that decline from 118.65 (2016 high) has completed with three waves down to 104.69, after failing 104.62. More importantly, the rise from 98.97 (2016 low) could be resuming. Decisive break of 114.54 resistance will add more credence to this bullish case and target 118.65. This will now be the favored case as long as 110.35 support holds. However, firm break of 110.35 will mix up the medium term outlook again and turn focus back to 104.69 low.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 115.60; (P) 115.89; (R1) 116.16; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains neutral for consolidation below 116.34 temporary top. Downside of retreat should be contained well above 114.26 support turned resistance to bring another rally. On the upside, sustained break of 61.8% projection of 109.11 to 115.51 from 112.52 at 116.47 will pave the way to 100% projection at 118.90, which is close to 118.65 long term resistance.

In the bigger picture, no change in the view that rise from 102.58 is the third leg of the up trend from 101.18 (2020 low). Such rally should target a test on 118.65 (2016 high). Sustained break there will pave the way to 120.85 (2015 high) and raise the chance of long term up trend resumption. For now, this will remain the favored case as long as 112.52 support holds, in case of deep pull back.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 105.23; (P) 105.52; (R1) 105.75; More...

USD/JPY’s sharp decline today suggests that corrective rise from 104.18 has completed and larger fall from 111.71 is resuming. Intraday bias is back on the downside for retesting 104.18 first. Firm break there will confirm and target 61.8% projection of 109.85 to 104.18 from 106.94 at 103.43 next. On the downside, though, above 105.81 minor resistance will dampen this bearish view and turn intraday bias neutral again first.

In the bigger picture, USD/JPY is still staying in long term falling channel that started back in 118.65 (Dec. 2016). Hence, there is no clear indication of trend reversal yet. The down trend could still extend through 101.18 low. However, sustained break of 112.22 should confirm completion of the down trend and turn outlook bullish for 118.65 and above.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 110.60; (P) 110.76; (R1) 110.88; More…

USD/JPY was rejected by 4 hour 55 EMA and continues to weaken today. But at this point, it’s still staying above 109.83 temporary low. Intraday bias remains neutral for the moment. The consolidation from 109.83 might extend and another rise cannot be ruled out. But after all, near term outlook stays bearish as long as 112.18 resistance holds and deeper fall is expected. Break of 109.83 will target 108.81 support first. Break there will resume whole correction from 118.65 and target 61.8% retracement of 98.97 to 118.65 at 106.48. Nonetheless, break of 112.18 resistance will dampen our bearish view and turn focus back to 114.49 resistance instead.

In the bigger picture, the corrective structure of the fall from 118.65 suggests that rise from 98.97 is not completed yet. Break of 118.65 will target a test on 125.85 high. At this point, it’s uncertain whether rise from 98.97 is resuming the long term up trend from 75.56, or it’s a leg in the consolidation from 125.85. Hence, we’ll be cautious on topping as it approaches 125.85. If fall from 118.65 extends lower, down side should be contained by 61.8% retracement of 98.97 to 118.65 at 106.48 and bring rebound.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 110.14; (P) 110.56; (R1) 110.88; More…

USD/JPY dipped to 110.18 but quickly recovered ahead of 61.8% retracement of 107.31 to 114.73 at 110.14. Intraday bias stays neutral first. At this point, further decline cannot be ruled out. But we’d look for bottoming again below 110.14 fibonacci level. Meanwhile, on the upside, break of 111.26 support turned resistance will suggest that USD/JPY has bottomed slightly earlier than expected. In that case, intraday bias will be turned back to the upside for 113.38 resistance. Decisive break there will confirm completion of the corrective pull back from 114.73 and turn outlook bullish.

In the bigger picture, we’re holding on to the view that correction from 118.65 is completed at 107.31. And medium term rise from 98.97 (2016 low) is going to resume soon. Sustained break of 114.73 should affirm our view and send USD/JPY through 118.65. However, break of 107.31 will dampen this view and extend the medium term fall back to 98.97 low.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 145.85; (P) 146.48; (R1) 147.07; More…

No change in USD/JPY’s outlook as focus remains on 148.79 resistance. Firm break there will resume the rally from 140.25 to 151.89/93 key resistance zone. For now, further rise will remain in favor as long as 145.88 holds, in case of retreat.

In the bigger picture, fall from 151.89 is seen as a correction to the rally from 127.20, which might have completed at 140.25 already. Firm break of 151.89/93 resistance zone will confirm up trend resumption next target will be 61.8% projection of 127.20 to 151.89 from 140.25 at 155.50. This will now remain the favored case as long as 140.25 support holds.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 157.27; (P) 157.62; (R1) 158.07; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains neutral at this point. Further rally would be in favor as long as 154.53 support holds. Break of 158.25 will resume the choppy rise from 151.86 towards 160.20 high. But upside should be limited there, at least on first attempt.

In the bigger picture, price actions from 160.20 medium term top are seen as a corrective pattern to rise from 150.25 only. Another rally is still expected at a later stage through 160.02 to resume the larger up trend. However, decisive break of 150.87 will argue that larger correction is possibly underway, and target 146.47 support next.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 104.52; (P) 104.90; (R1) 105.13; More...

USD/JPY’s decline resumes after brief consolidation and hits as low as 104.18. Intraday bias is back on the downside with focus on 100% projection of 111.71 to 105.98 from 109.85 at 104.12. Firm break there will extend recent fall to 138.2% projection at 101.93 next. On the upside, though, above 105.29 minor resistance will suggest short term bottoming and bring stronger rebound.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 106.35; (P) 106.53; (R1) 106.80; More…

USD/JPY is still bounded in consolidation from 105.04 and intraday bias remains neutral for the moment. Near term outlook remains bearish with 107.09 minor resistance intact, and further fall is expected. On the downside, break of 105.04 will resume larger decline from 112.40 to 104.69 low. Break will target 100% projection of 112.40 to 106.78 from 109.31 at 103.69. On the upside, though, break of 107.09 resistance will indicate short term bottoming. In this case, stronger rebound would be seen back to 55 day EMA (now at 107.75).

In the bigger picture, decline from 118.65 (Dec 2016) is still in progress and the pair is staying well inside long term falling channel. Break of 104.62 will target 100% projection of 118.65 to 104.62 from 114.54 at 100.51. For now, we’d expect strong support above 98.97 (2016 low) to contain downside to bring rebound. In any case, break of 112.40 is needed to the first serious sign of medium term bullishness. Otherwise, further decline will remain in favor in case of rebound.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 107.31; (P) 107.67; (R1) 108.00; More...

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains neutral as range trading continues above 106.91 support. On the downside, break of 106.91 will extend the decline from 111.71 to 100% projection of 111.71 to 106.91 from 109.38 at 104.58. On the upside, break of 109.38 will suggest that fall from 111.71 has completed. Intraday bias will be turned back to the upside for 111.71/112.22 resistance zone.

In the bigger picture, at this point, whole decline from 118.65 (Dec 2016) continues to display a corrective look, with well channeling. There is no clear sign of completion yet. Break of 101.18 will target 98.97 (2016 low). Meanwhile, sustained break of 112.22 should confirm completion of the decline and turn outlook bullish for 118.65 and above.
