USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 124.86; (P) 125.31; (R1) 125.85; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains neutral for the moment. On the downside, break of 124.66 minor support will bring deeper pull back to 4 hour 55 EMA (now at 123.97) and possibly below. But downside should be contained above 121.27 support to bring another rally. On the upside, sustained break of 125.85 will pave the way to 130.04 long term projection level next.

In the bigger picture, up trend from 98.97 (2016 low) is in progress for retesting 125.85 (2015 high). Sustained break there will confirm long term up trend resumption. Next target will be 61.8% projection of 75.56 (2011 low) to 125.85 (2015 high) from 98.97 at 130.04. This will now remain the favored case as long as 116.34 resistance turned support holds.

Daily Pivots: (S1) 110.96; (P) 111.27; (R1) 111.84; More…

USD/JPY’s rally continues today and breaches 111.70 resistance. Intraday bias remains on the upside for near term channel resistance (now at 113.02). Sustained break there will suggest that whole pull back from 118.65 has completed at 108.12 already. In such case, further rise should be seen to 114.36 resistance for confirmation. On the downside, below 110.63 minor support will turn intraday bias neutral. Break of 108.81 will extend the fall from 118.65 through 108.12 low before completion.

In the bigger picture, price actions from 125.85 high are seen as a corrective pattern. It’s uncertain whether it’s completed yet. But in case of another fall, downside should be contained by 61.8% retracement of 75.56 to 125.85 at 94.77 to bring rebound. Overall, rise from 75.56 is still expected to resume later after the correction from 125.85 completes.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 111.23; (P) 111.42; (R1) 111.68; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains neutral for consolidation above 111.06 temporary low. Near term outlook remains bearish as long as 112.71 resistance holds and deeper decline is expected. Below 111.06 will target 61.8% retracement of 107.31 to 114.73 at 110.14. For the moment, we’re still favoring the case medium term corrective pattern from 118.65 has completed at 107.31 already. Hence, we’ll looking for bottoming below 110.14 to bring another rise.

In the bigger picture, medium term rise from 98.97 (2016 low) is not completed yet. It should resume after corrective fall from 118.65 completes. Break of 114.49 resistance will likely resume the rise to 61.8% projection of 98.97 to 118.65 from 107.31 at 119.47 first. Firm break there will pave the way to 100% projection at 126.99. This will be the key level to decide whether long term up trend is resuming. However, firm break of 111.64 support will dampen this view and turn focus back to 107.31 instead.

USD/JPY Weekly Outlook

USD/JPY’s decline from 118.65 resumed last week by taking out 111.58 support last week and reached as low as 110.62. 38.2% retracement of 98.97 to 118.65 at 111.13 was breached but there was no follow through selling yet. But in any case, price actions from 118.65 are still viewed as a correction for the moment.

USD/JPY 4 Hours Chart

Initial bias is neutral in USD/JPY this week first. On the upside, break of 112.86 resistance will argue that a short term bottom is formed. In such case, intraday bias will be turned back to the upside for 115.49 resistance. Break will indicate completion of the correction from 118.65. Meanwhile, break of 110.62 will likely send USD/JPY to 100% projection of 118.65 to 111.58 from 115.49 at 108.42 to extend the correction.

USD/JPY Daily Chart

In the bigger picture, price actions from 125.85 high are seen as a corrective pattern. The impulsive structure of the rise from 98.97 suggests that the correction is completed and larger up trend is resuming. Decisive break of 125.85 will confirm and target 61.8% projection of 75.56 to 125.85 from 98.97 at 130.04 and then 135.20 long term resistance. Nonetheless, sustained trading below 55 week EMA (now at 111.08) will extend the consolidation from 125.85 with another fall through 98.97 before completion.

USD/JPY Weekly Chart

In the long term picture, the rise from 75.56 long term bottom to 125.85 medium term top is viewed as an impulsive move. Price actions from 125.85 are seen as a corrective move which could still extend. But, up trend from 75.56 is expected to resume at a later stage for above 135.20/147.68 resistance zone.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 112.49; (P) 112.68; (R1) 113.02; More..

USD/JPY lost momentum after hitting 112.88 and intraday bias is turned neutral again. Further rise cannot be ruled out yet. But based on the corrective structure, upside should be limited by 61.8% retracement of 114.54 to 111.62 at 113.42. On the downside, below 111.94 minor support will turn bias to the downside to 111.62 low first. Break will resume the corrective fall from 114.54 to 38.2% retracement of 104.62 to 114.54 at 110.75. We’ll look for bottoming signal above 109.76 key support in that case.

In the bigger picture, corrective fall from 118.65 (2016 high) should have completed with three waves down to 104.62. Decisive break of 114.73 resistance will likely resume whole rally from 98.97 (2016 low) to 100% projection of 98.97 to 118.65 from 104.62 at 124.30, which is reasonably close to 125.85 (2015 high). This will stay as the preferred case as long as 109.76 support holds. However, decisive break of 109.76 will dampen this bullish view and turns outlook mixed again.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 107.74; (P) 108.10; (R1) 108.42; More…

USD/JPY is staying in tight range below 108.57 and intraday bias remains neutral first. With 107.45 minor support intact, further rise cannot be ruled out. But we’d continue to look for topping sign as it approaches this 109.31 key resistance. On the downside, break of 107.45 minor support will suggest that rebound from 104.45 has completed. Intraday bias will be turned back to the downside. Break of 106.68 resistance turned support will confirm and target 104.45 low. However, decisive break of 109.31 will carry larger bullish implication.

In the bigger picture, decline from 118.65 (Dec 2016) is still in progress and the pair is staying well inside long term falling channel. Firm break of 104.69 will target 100% projection of 118.65 to 104.62 from 114.54 at 100.51. For now, we’d expect strong support above 98.97 (2016 low) to contain downside to bring rebound. However, firm break of 109.31 will be the first sign of medium term reversal and bring stronger rise to 112.40 resistance for confirmation.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 104.96; (P) 105.54; (R1) 105.95; More...

A temporary low is formed at 105.11 with breach of 105.66 minor resistance. Intraday bias is turned neutral for some consolidations first. But recovery should be limited by 106.63 support turned resistance to bring another fall. On the downside, break of 105.11 will extend the fall from 111.71 to 100% projection of 111.71 to 105.98 from 109.85 at 104.12 next.

In the bigger picture, USD/JPY is still staying in long term falling channel that started back in 118.65 (Dec 2016). Hence, there is no clear indication of trend reversal yet. The down trend could still extend through 101.18 low. However, sustained break of 112.22 should confirm completion of the down trend and turn outlook bullish for 118.65 and above.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 108.42; (P) 108.76; (R1) 109.07; More..

Intraday bias in USD/JPY stays mildly on the upside as rebound from 104.69 is in progress. But upside will likely be limited by 109.46 minor resistance. On the downside, below 106.74 minor support will turn bias to the downside for 104.62 low. Overall, larger downtrend from 118.65 (2016 high) is expected to resume finally through 104.62 after current consolidation from 104.69 completes.

In the bigger picture, price actions from 125.85 (2015 high) are seen as a long term corrective pattern, no change in this view. Apparently, such corrective pattern is not completed yet. Fall from 114.54 is seen as part of the falling leg from 118.65 (2016 high). Break of 104.62 will target 100% projection of 118.65 to 104.62 from 114.54 at 100.51, which is close to 100 psychological level. But in that case, we’d expect strong support from 98.97 to contain downside to bring reversal. Also, this bearish case will remain the preferred one as long as 114.54 resistance holds.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 113.54; (P) 113.65; (R1) 113.87; More…

USD/JPY is still bounded in range of 112.52/113.94 and intraday bias remains neutral for the moment. On the downside, sustained break of 112.71 will argue that it’s already correcting whole rise from 102.58. Deeper fall would be seen to 38.2% retracement of 102.58 to 115.51 at 110.57. On the upside, break of 113.94 minor resistance will turn bias back to the upside for retesting 115.51 high instead.

In the bigger picture, no change in the view that rise from 102.58 is the third leg of the up trend from 101.18 (2020 low). Such rally should target a test on 118.65 (2016 high) on resumption. However, firm break of 109.11 structural support will argue that the trend might have reversed and bring deeper fall to 107.47 support and possibly below.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 113.11; (P) 113.23; (R1) 113.35; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains neutral for consolidation below 113.63/74. Overall, Overall, near term outlook remains bullish as long as 112.02 support holds. Break of 113.74 will resume the rebound from 110.83 and target 114.73 key resistance. Decisive break there will carry larger bullish implications.

In the bigger picture, we’re holding on to the view that correction from 118.65 is completed at 107.31. And medium term rise from 98.97 (2016 low) is going to resume soon. Sustained break of 114.73 should affirm our view and send USD/JPY through 118.65. However, break of 107.31 will dampen this view and extend the medium term fall back to 98.97 low.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 105.75; (P) 106.20; (R1) 106.46; More...

Focus stays on 105.30 support in USD/JPY. Firm break there will firstly suggest that rebound from 104.18 has completed. More importantly, that would suggest that decline from 111.71 isn’t completed. Intraday bias will be turned back to the downside for retesting 104.18 low. On the upside, though, break of 107.05 resistance will revive the case of bullish reversal and turn bias back to the upside for 108.16 resistance.

In the bigger picture, USD/JPY is still staying in long term falling channel that started back in 118.65 (Dec. 2016). Hence, there is no clear indication of trend reversal yet. The down trend could still extend through 101.18 low. However, sustained break of 112.22 should confirm completion of the down trend and turn outlook bullish for 118.65 and above.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 149.51; (P) 149.72; (R1) 150.12; More…

No change in USD/JPY’s outlook as consolidation from 150.15 is extending. On the downside, below 148.94 minor support will turn bias to the downside for another down leg towards 147.28. On the upside, firm break of 150.15 will resume larger up trend to test 151.93 high.

In the bigger picture, while rise from 127.20 is strong, it could still be seen as the second leg of the corrective pattern from 151.93 (2022 high). Rejection by 151.93, followed by sustained break of 145.06 resistance turned support will be the first sign that the third leg of the pattern has started. However, sustained break of 151.93 will confirm resumption of long term up trend.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 128.53; (P) 128.99; (R1) 129.73; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains neutral first, and risk stays mildly on the downside with 131.34 resistance intact. Correction from there could extend lower. Below 127.51 will target 125.09 cluster support (38.2% retracement of 114.40 to 131.34 at 124.86).

In the bigger picture, current rally is seen as part of the long term up trend form 75.56 (2011 low). Sustained trading above 61.8% projection of 75.56 (2011 low) to 125.85 (2015 high) from 98.97 at 130.04 will pave the way to 100% projection at 149.26, which is close to 147.68 (1998 high). For now, this will remain the favored case as long as 121.27 support holds.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 139.07; (P) 139.76; (R1) 140.27; More…

USD/JPY is still extending the consolidation from 140.90 and intraday bias stays neutral. Further rally is expected as long as 138.22 minor support holds. On the upside, break of 140.90 will resume larger rise from 127.20 to 142.48 fibonacci level. However, considering bearish divergence condition in 4 hour MACD, break of 138.22 will confirm short term topping, and turn bias back to the downside for 55 D EMA (now at 136.35).

In the bigger picture, rise from 127.20 is seen as the second leg of the corrective pattern from 151.93 high. Stronger rally would be seen to 61.8% retracement of 151.93 to 127.20 at 136.34. Sustained break there will pave the way back to retest 151.93. On the downside, however, break of 133.73 support will argue that the pattern could have started the third leg through 127.20 low.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 113.23; (P) 113.50; (R1) 113.94; More…

USD/JPY dips mildly today but stays in range of 111.58/114.94. Intraday bias stays neutral first and outlook is unchanged. Corrective fall from 118.65 could extend lower through 111.58. But we’d still expect strong support from 38.2% retracement of 98.97 to 118.65 at 111.13 to contain downside and bring rebound. On the upside, above 114.94 resistance should confirm completion of pull back from 118.65. In such case, intraday bias will be turned back to the upside for retesting 118.65.

Rejection from 125.85 and below will extend the consolidation with another falling leg before up trend resumption.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 113.05; (P) 113.43; (R1) 113.62; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains neutral for consolidation below 113.79 temporary top. Downside of retreat should be contained above 112.07 resistance turned support to bring rise resumption. On the upside, break of 113.79 will extend the larger up trend from 102.58, and target 61.8% projection of 102.58 to 111.65 from 109.11 at 114.71. Firm break there will target 100% projection at 118.18 next.

In the bigger picture, corrective decline from 118.65 (2016 high) should have completed at 101.18 already. Rise from the 102.58 is seen as the third leg of the up trend from 101.18. Next target is 114.54 resistance and then 118.65 high. This will now be the preferred case as long as 108.71 support hold, even in case of pull back.

USD/JPY’s rebound from 109.71 extends today and break of 110.95 suggests that pull back from 112.13 has completed already. Intraday bas is back on the upside for retesting 112.13 first. Decisive break there will resume whole rise from 104.69 to 114.54 key resistance next. On the downside, below 110.53 minor support will turn bias back to the downside for 109.71 and possibly further to 38.2% retracement of 104.69 to 112.13 at 109.28.

In the bigger picture, while the rebound from 104.69 was strong, USD/JPY failed to sustain above 55 week EMA (now at 110.80), and was kept well below 114.54 resistance. Medium term outlook is turned mixed and we’ll wait for the structure of the fall from 112.13 to unveil to make an assessment later. For now, more range trading is expected between 104.69 and 112.13 first.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 110.52; (P) 110.97; (R1) 111.82; More..

Intraday bias in USD/JPY is turned neutral with 4 hour MACD crossed above signal line. Focus is back on 111.46 minor resistance. With 109.76 key support intact, break of 111.46 will revive near term bullishness. In this case, intraday bias is turned back to the upside for 55 day EMA (now at 112.67) first. On the downside, below 110.13 will target 109.76 support.

In the bigger picture, price actions from 125.85 (2015 high) are seen as a long term corrective pattern, no change in this view. Apparently, such corrective pattern is not completed yet. Break of 109.76 support will start another medium term down leg to 98.97/104.62 support zone. On the upside, break of 114.73 resistance will likely extend the rise from 98.97 through 118.65 resistance.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 157.32; (P) 157.88; (R1) 158.57; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains neutral for consolidations above 157.61. On the downside, break of 157.16 and sustained trading below 55 D EMA (now at 157.72) will bring deeper correction to 38.2% retracement of 140.25 to 161.94 at 163.65. But strong support should be seen there to bring rebound. Meanwhile, break of 159.44 minor resistance will turn bias back to the upside for stronger rebound towards 161.94 high.

In the bigger picture, as long as 151.89 resistance turned support holds, long term up trend could still continue through 161.94 at a later stage. Next target will depend on the depth of the current correction from 161.94. However, sustained break of 151.89 will argue that larger scale correction or trend reversal is underway.

Fall from 161.94 is seen as correcting the whole five-wave rally from 140.25. Deeper decline is in favor and sustained trading below 55 D EMA (now at 157.67) will affirm this bearish case. Next target will be 38.2% retracement of 140.25 to 161.94 at 163.65. Nevertheless, break of 159.44 will turn bias back to the upside for stronger rebound.

In the bigger picture, as long as 151.89 resistance turned support holds, long term up trend could still continue through 161.94 at a later stage. Next target will depend on the depth of the current correction from 161.94. However, sustained break of 151.89 will argue that larger scale correction or trend reversal is underway.
