USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 106.07; (P) 106.31; (R1) 106.51; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains neutral for the moment. As long as 106.73 resistance holds, larger decline is expected to extend further. On the downside, break of 104.45 will resume recent down trend to 100% projection of 112.40 to 106.78 from 109.31 at 103.69. However, firm break of 106.73 will indicate short term bottoming and bring stronger rebound back to 55 day EMA (now at 107.2) and above.

In the bigger picture, decline from 118.65 (Dec 2016) is still in progress and the pair is staying well inside long term falling channel. Firm break of 104.69 will target 100% projection of 118.65 to 104.62 from 114.54 at 100.51. For now, we’d expect strong support above 98.97 (2016 low) to contain downside to bring rebound. In any case, break of 109.31 resistance is needed to the first sign of medium term bottoming. Otherwise, further decline will remain in favor in case of rebound.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 110.26; (P) 110.46; (R1) 110.66; More…

USD/JPY is staying in range of 110.00/111.13 and intraday bias remains neutral. On the downside, break of 110.00 resistance turned support will suggest rejection by 110.77 and the rebound from 104.69 has likely completed. Intraday bias will be turned back to the downside for 108.49 support for confirmation. Nevertheless, break of 111.13 should confirm resumption of rise from 104.69 for 114.54 resistance.

In the bigger picture, while the rebound from 104.69 was stronger than expected, it couldn’t sustain above 55 day EMA yet. Outlook is turned mixed first. On the downside, break of 108.49 support will revive that case that such rebound was a correction. And, larger down trend is still in progress for another low below 104.62. But sustained trading above 55 day EMA will turn focus to 114.54. Decisive break there will confirmation completion of the decline from 118.65 (2016 high).

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 109.99; (P) 110.22; (R1) 110.59; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains neutral at this point. On the downside, below 109.54 will extend the corrective pattern from 111.39 with another falling leg to 108.10 and possibly below. But, we’d expect strong support from 61.8% retracement of 104.62 to 111.39 at 107.20 to contain downside and bring rebound. On the upside, above 110.89 will extend the rise from 108.10 towards 111.39. But we’d be cautious on strong resistance from there to limit upside.

In the bigger picture, at this point, we’re slightly favoring the case that corrective decline from 118.65 (2016 high) has completed with three waves down to 104.62. Above 111.39 will affirm this view and target 114.73 for confirmation. However, it should be noted that USD/JPY is bounded in medium term falling channel from 118.65 (2016 high). Sustained break of 61.8% retracement of 104.62 to 111.39 at 107.20 will likely resume the fall from 118.65 through 104.62 low.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

USD/JPY’s fall from 113.17 extends today and hits as low as 110.74 so far. Intraday bias stays on the downside for 55 day EMA (now at 110.45) and below. However, such decline is seen as correcting whole rally from 104.62. Hence, we’d expect strong support from 38.2% retracement of 104.62 to 113.17 at 109..90 to contain downside and bring rebound. On the upside, above 111.50 minor resistance will turn intraday bias neutral first. But break of 113.17 is needed to confirm up trend resumption. Otherwise, more condition would be seen with risk of another fall.

In the bigger picture, corrective fall from 118.65 (2016 high) should have completed with three waves down to 104.62. Decisive break of 114.73 resistance will likely resume whole rally from 98.97 (2016 low) to 100% projection of 98.97 to 118.65 from 104.62 at 124.30, which is reasonably close to 125.85 (2015 high). This will stay as the preferred case as long as 109.36 support holds.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 139.26; (P) 140.10; (R1) 140.62; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains neutral for consolidations below 140.90. Downside of retreat should be contained above 138.22 support to bring another rally. Break of 140.90 will resume larger rise from 127.20 to 142.48 fibonacci level. However, considering bearish divergence condition in 4 hour MACD, break of 138.22 will confirm short term topping, and turn bias back to the downside for 55 D EMA (now at 135.89).

In the bigger picture, rise from 127.20 is seen as the second leg of the corrective pattern from 151.93 high. Stronger rally would be seen to 61.8% retracement of 151.93 to 127.20 at 136.34. Sustained break there will pave the way back to retest 151.93. On the downside, however, break of 133.73 support will argue that the pattern could have started the third leg through 127.20 low.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 110.40; (P) 110.58; (R1) 110.73; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains neutral as consolidation from 11.10 is still extending. Further rally is still expected with 109.70 support intact. Larger up trend from 102.58 might be resuming. Above 111.10 will target 111.71 key resistance next. Firm break there will carry larger implication. Next target is 61.8% projection of 102.58 to 110.95 from 107.47 at 112.64 next. On the downside, however, break of 109.70 support will turn bias back to the downside for 107.47 support instead.

In the bigger picture, medium term outlook is staying neutral with 111.71 resistance intact. Though, as notable support was seen from 55 day EMA, rise from 102.58 is mildly in favor to extend higher. Decisive break of 111.71/112.22 resistance will suggest medium term bullish reversal. Rise from 101.18 could then target 118.65 resistance (Dec 2016) and above. However, sustained break of 55 day EMA would revive some medium term bearishness, and open up deep fall to 61.8% retracement of 102.58 to 110.95 at 105.77 and below.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 151.18; (P) 151.34; (R1) 151.51; More…

USD/JPY is staying below 151.96 resistance despite current recovery. Intraday bias remains neutral first. On the downside, break of 150.25 support should confirm short term topping, and turn bias back to the downside for 55 D EMA (now at 149.25). Nevertheless, sustained break of 151.93 key resistance will confirm long term up trend resumption. Next near term target will be 61.8% projection of 140.25 to 150.87 from 146.47 at 153.03.

In the bigger picture, correction from 151.87 (2023) high could have completed at 140.25 already. Rise from 127.20 (2023 low), as part of the long term up trend, is probably ready to resume. Decisive break of 151.93 resistance (2022 high) will confirm this bullish case. Next medium term target will be 61.8% projection of 127.20 to 151.89 from 140.25 at 155.20. This will remain the favored case as long as 146.47 support holds, in case of another pullback.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 109.51; (P) 109.83; (R1) 110.01; More…

USD/JPY is still bounded in familiar range and intraday bias remains neutral first. On the upside, break of 110.79 will resume the rebound from 108.71 to retest 111.65 high. On the downside, break of 109.10 will target 108.71 support first. Firm break there will resume the decline from 111.65 and target 38.2% retracement of 102.58 to 111.65 at 108.18 next.

In the bigger picture, medium term outlook is staying neutral with 111.71 resistance intact. The pattern from 101.18 could still extend with another falling leg. Sustained trading below 55 day EMA will bring deeper fall to 107.47 support and below. Nevertheless, strong break of 111.71 resistance will confirm completion of the corrective decline from 118.65 (2016 high). Further rise should then be seen to 114.54 and then 118.65 resistance.

USD/JPY is losing some upside momentum but further rise is still in favor with 104.92 minor support intact. Sustained break of 55 day EMA (now at 105.96) will raise the chance of bullish reversal and target 106.94 resistance for confirmation. On the downside, though, below 104.92 minor support will turn bias back to the downside for retesting 104.00 instead.

In the bigger picture, USD/JPY is still staying in long term falling channel that started back in 118.65 (Dec. 2016). Hence, there is no clear indication of trend reversal yet. The down trend could still extend through 101.18 low. However, sustained break of 112.22 resistance should confirm completion of the down trend and turn outlook bullish for 118.65 and above.

Intraday bias in USD/JPY is turned neutral again with today’s retreat. Further rise could be seen as long as 106.64 minor support intact. But 38.2% retracement of 114.73 to 104.62 at 108.48 9 which is close to 108.12, remains crucial in determining the medium outlook. Break of 106.64, however, will indicate the rebound from 104.62 has completed. And in that case, bias will be turned back to the downside for retesting 104.62.

In the bigger picture, as long as 108.12 support turned resistance holds, the medium term down trend from 118.65 (2016 high) should still continue lower, at least to retest 98.97 (2016 low). However, sustained break of 108.12 will be an early sign of medium term reversal. In that case, further rise would be seen to 114.73 resistance to confirm completion of the fall from 118.65.

Intraday bias in USD/JPY is turned neutral with current retreat. Further rally will be expected as long as 113.57 support holds. Break of 115.51 temporary top will resume larger up trend to 100% projection of 102.58 to 111.65 from 109.11 at 118.18 next. However, break of 113.57 will indicate that larger correction is underway, and targets 112.71 support next.

In the bigger picture, corrective decline from 118.65 (2016 high) should have completed at 101.18 already. Rise from the 102.58 is seen as the third leg of the up trend from 101.18. Next target is 118.65 high. This will now be the preferred case as long as 111.65 resistance turned support holds, even in case of deep pull back.

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains on the upside as rise from 107.31 is in progress. Sustained break of medium term channel resistance argues that correction from 118.65 is already completed with three waves down to 107.31. Break of 114.49 will confirm this bullish case and target a test on 118.65 next. On the downside, break of 111.46 support is needed to indicate short term topping. Otherwise, near term outlook will remain cautiously bullish in case of retreat.

In the bigger picture, rise from 98.97 (2016 low) is seen as the second leg of the corrective pattern from 125.85 (2015 high). It’s unclear whether this this second leg has completed at 118.65 or not. But medium term outlook will be mildly bearish as long as 114.49 resistance holds. And, there is prospect of breaking 98.97 ahead. Meanwhile, break of 114.49 will bring retest of 125.85 high. But even in that case, we don’t expect a break there on first attempt.

USD/JPY’s strong rebound and break of 112.57 minor resistance suggests that pull back from 113.43 has completed at 111.64 already. And, rise from 107.31 is possibly resuming. More importantly, the development revives the case that correction from 118.65 has completed at 107.31. Intraday bias is now back on the upside for 113.43 first. Further break of 114.49 will confirm and pave the way to retest 118.65. However, break of 111.64 will mixed up the outlook again.

In the bigger picture, rise from 98.97 (2016 low) is seen as the second leg of the corrective pattern from 125.85 (2015 high). It’s unclear whether this second leg has completed at 118.65 or not. But medium term outlook will be mildly bearish as long as 114.49 resistance holds. And, there is prospect of breaking 98.97 ahead. Meanwhile, break of 114.49 will bring retest of 125.85 high. USD/JPY’s fall from 109.85 extended to as low as 107.91 today. Break of 108.08 resistance turned support argue that rebound from 105.98 has completed with three waves up to 109.85. The development argues that the pattern from 111.71 is possibly in the third leg. Intraday bias is back to the downside for 107.08. Break will target 105.98. For now, risk will stay mildly on the downside as long as 109.85 resistance holds.

In the bigger picture, USD/JPY is still staying in long term falling channel that started back in 118.65 (Dec2016). Hence, there is clear indication of trend reversal yet. Break of 105.98 support would extend the down trend through 101.18 low. However, sustained break of 112.22 should confirm completion of the down trend and turn outlook bullish for 118.65 and above.

USD/JPY Weekly Outlook

USD/JPY rose further to 116.33 last week but failed to break through 116.34 resistance and dropped sharply since then. The development suggests that corrective pattern from 116.34 is in another falling leg already. Initial bias is mildly on the downside for 114.14 support first. Break will target 113.46 next. On the upside, firm break of 116.34 will resume larger up trend from 102.58. Next target is 118.65 long term resistance.

In the bigger picture, no change in the view that rise from 102.58 is the third leg of the up trend from 101.18 (2020 low). Such rally should target a test on 118.65 (2016 high). Sustained break there will pave the way to 120.85 (2015 high) and raise the chance of long term up trend resumption. This will remain the favored case as long as 55 week EMA (now at 111.21) holds.

In the long term picture, the rise from 75.56 (2011 low) long term bottom to 125.85 (2015 high) is viewed as an impulsive move, no change in this view. Price actions from 125.85 are seen as a corrective pattern which could still extend. In case of deeper fall, downside should be contained by 61.8% retracement of 75.56 to 125.85 at 94.77. Up trend from 75.56 is expected to resume at a later stage for above 135.20/147.68 resistance zone.

On the downside, break of 105.10 will bring retest 104.18 support first.

Intraday bias in USD/JPY stays on the upside for 113.17 resistance first. Decisive break there will resume whole rally from 104.62 and target 114.73 resistance next. On the downside, below 112.39 minor support will turn intraday bias neutral again. But near term outlook will remain cautiously bullish as long as 111.82 resistance turned support holds.

In the bigger picture, corrective fall from 118.65 (2016 high) should have completed with three waves down to 104.62. Break of 109.68 resistance suggests that rebound from 107.47 has resumed. Intraday bias is back on the upside for retesting 110.95 high. On the downside, however, break of 108.34 support will turn bias back to the downside for 107.47 support and below. Overall, USD/JPY was once again supported by 55 day EMA, which gives mild near term bullish favor.

In the bigger picture, medium term outlook is staying neutral with 111.71 resistance intact. We’d monitor the structure of the fall from 110.95, to assess whether it’s just correction to rise from 102.58 to 110.95, or a leg of a range pattern between 101.18 and 111.71, or starting another leg of the long term down trend.
