USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 105.18; (P) 105.33; (R1) 105.58; More...

Range trading continues in USD/JPY and intraday bias remains neutral at this point. On the upside, break of 106.10 will target 106.94 resistance. Sustained break there should confirm completion of the whole decline from 111.71. On the downside, break of 104.94 support will revive near term bearishness and target a test on 104.00 low instead.

In the bigger picture, USD/JPY is still staying in long term falling channel that started back in 118.65 (Dec. 2016). Hence, there is no clear indication of trend reversal yet. The down trend could still extend through 101.18 low. However, sustained break of 112.22 resistance should confirm completion of the down trend and turn outlook bullish for 118.65 and above.

USD/JPY Weekly Outlook

USD/JPY edged higher to 110.67 last week but was limited well below 55 day EMA and reversed. Current development suggests that corrective recovery from 109.02 has completed. Initial bias remains on the downside this week for 109.02 first. Break will resume fall from 112.40 and target 61.8% retracement of 104.69 to 112.40 at 107.63. In any case, near term outlook will stay bearish as long as 55 day EMA (now at 110.72) holds.

In the bigger picture, USD/JPY is staying inside falling channel from 118.65. Current development suggests that rebound from 104.69 is only a corrective move. And fall from 118.65 is not completed yet. Decisive break of 104.69 will extend the down trend towards 98.97 support (2016 low). For now, we’d expect strong support above there to bring rebound.

In the long term picture, the rise from 75.56 (2011 low) long term bottom to 125.85 (2015 high) is viewed as an impulsive move, no change in this view. Price actions from 125.85 are seen as a corrective move which could still extend. In case of deeper fall, downside should be contained by 61.8% retracement of 75.56 to 125.85 at 94.77. Up trend from 75.56 is expected to resume at a later stage for above 135.20/147.68 resistance zone.

USD/JPY is staying in tight range below 111.48 temporary top and intraday bias remains neutral. We maintains the view that correction from 113.17 should have completed at 109.76 already. Above 111.48 will turn bias to the upside for 112.14. Break will pave the way to retest 113.17 high. Meanwhile, below 110.74 minor support will dampen the bullish case and turn focus back to 109.76 instead.

In the bigger picture, corrective fall from 118.65 (2016 high) should have completed with three waves down to 104.62. Decisive break of 114.73 resistance will likely resume whole rally from 98.97 (2016 low) to 100% projection of 98.97 to 118.65 from 104.62 at 124.30, which is reasonably close to 125.85 (2015 high). This will stay as the preferred case as long as 109.36 support holds. However, decisive break of 109.36 will mix up the outlook again. And deeper fall should be seen back to 61.8% retracement of 104.62 to 113.17 at 107.88 and below.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 123.49; (P) 123.77; (R1) 124.07; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains neutral as consolidation from 125.09 is extending. Outlook stays bullish with 121.17 support intact and further rise is expected. On the upside, break of 125.09 will target 125.85 long term resistance. Firm break pave the way to 130.04 long term projection level. However, break of 121.17 will turn bias back to the downside for deeper pull back.

In the bigger picture, up trend from 98.97 (2016 low) in in progress for retesting 125.85 (2015 high). Sustained break there will confirm long term up trend resumption. Next target will be 61.8% projection of 75.56 (2011 low) to 125.85 (2015 high) from 98.97 at 130.04. This will now remain the favored case as long as 116.34 resistance turned support holds.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 108.42; (P) 108.68; (R1) 108.90; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY is turned neutral with 4 hour MACD now staying well below signal line. Some consolidations could be seen but downside of retreat should be contained above 106.48 support. On the upside, above 108.93 will target 109.31 key resistance. Decisive break there will carry larger bullish implications next target will be 100% projection of 104.45 to 108.47 from 106.48 at 110.50.

In the bigger picture, strong support was seen from 104.62 again. Yet, there is no confirmation of medium term reversal. Corrective decline from 118.65 (Dec. 2016) could still extend lower. But in that case, we’d expect strong support above 98.97 (2016 low) to contain downside to bring rebound. Meanwhile, on the upside, break of 112.40 key resistance will be a strong sign of start of medium term up trend.

Daily Pivots: (S1) 110.98; (P) 111.17; (R1) 111.39; More…

USD/JPY’s break of 111.48 suggests that rebound from 109.76 is resuming. Intraday bias is back on the upside for 112.14 resistance. Note again that correction from 113.17 should have completed at 109.76 already. Break of 112.14 should target a test on 113.17 high. On the downside, however, break of 110.93 minor support will dampen the bullish case and turn focus back to 109.76 instead.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

At this point, USD/JPY is staying in range of 112.02/113.74 and intraday bias remains neutral first. Near term outlook stays bullish as long as 112.02 support holds. Break of 113.74 will resume the rebound from 110.83 and target 114.73 key resistance. Decisive break there will carry larger bullish implications. However, break of 112.02 will likely extend the corrective pattern from 114.73 with another leg through 110.83 support.

In the bigger picture, we’re holding on to the view that correction from 118.65 is completed at 107.31. And medium term rise from 98.97 (2016 low) is going to resume soon. Sustained break of 114.73 should affirm our view and send USD/JPY through 118.65. However, break of 107.31 will dampen this view and extend the medium term fall back to 98.97 low.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 103.88; (P) 104.09; (R1) 104.27; More..

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains neutral as it’s staying in consolidation above 103.65 temporary low. Outlook is unchanged that larger decline from 111.71 is still in progress. Break of 103.65 should turn bias back to the downside for 103.17 low and below. This bearish case will remain favored as long as 105.67 resistance holds.

In the bigger picture, USD/JPY is still staying in long term falling channel that started back in 118.65 (Dec. 2016). Hence, there is no clear indication of trend reversal yet. The down trend could still extend through 101.18 low. On the upside, break of 106.10 resistance is needed to be the first signal of medium term reversal. Otherwise, outlook will remain bearish.

Daily Pivots: (S1) 111.91; (P) 112.94; (R1) 113.80; More…

USD/JPY’s break of 112.51 suggests that choppy decline from 118.65 has resumed. Intraday bias is back on he downside for 38.2% retracement of 98.97 to 118.65 at 111.13. At this point, we’re still viewing the fall as a corrective move. Hence, we’d expect strong support from 111.13 to contain downside an bring rebound. On the upside, above 115.36 resistance will argue that such correction is finished and turn bias to the upside for 118.65. Break will resume whole rise from 98.97 and target 125.85 key resistance.

In the bigger picture, price actions from 125.85 high are seen as a corrective pattern. The impulsive structure of the rise from 98.97 suggests that the correction is completed and larger up trend is resuming. Decisive break of 125.85 will confirm and target 61.8% projection of 75.56 to 125.85 from 98.97 at 130.04 and then 135.20 long term resistance. Rejection from 125.85 and below will extend the consolidation with another falling leg before up trend resumption.

USD/JPY is staying in range of 106.64/107.77 and intraday bias remains neutral first. Another rise is mildly in favor and break of 107.77 will target 38.2% retracement of 114.73 to 104.62 at 108.48 which is close to 108.12. This level is crucial in determining the medium outlook. On the downside, break of 106.64, however, will indicate the rebound from 104.62 has completed. And in that case, bias will be turned back to the downside for retesting 104.62.

In the bigger picture, as long as 108.12 support turned resistance holds, the medium term down trend from 118.65 (2016 high) should still continue lower, at least to retest 98.97 (2016 low). However, sustained break of 108.12 will be an early sign of medium term reversal. In that case, further rise would be seen to 114.73 resistance to confirm completion of the fall from 118.65.

Intraday bias in USD/JPY is turned neutral wit h break of 144.53 minor resistance and some consolidations would be seen. But recovery should be limited below 147.14 support turned resistance to bring another fall. In the bigger picture, current fall from 151.89 is seen as the third leg of the corrective pattern from 151.93 (2022 high). Deeper decline would be seen to through 38.2% retracement of 127.20 to 151.89 at 142.45 to 61.8% retracement at 136.63. This will now remain the favored as long as 147.14 support turned resistance holds.

But still, overall outlook remains bullish with 140.90 resistance turned support intact. Break of 145.06 will resume larger rise to 161.8% projection of 127.20 to 137.90 from 129.62 at 146.93.

In the bigger picture, rise from 127.20 is currently seen as the second leg of the corrective pattern from 151.93 high. Further rally is expected as long as 138.75 support holds, to retest 151.93. But strong resistance could be seen there to limit upside. Break of 138.75 will indicate the the third leg has started back towards 127.20.

USD/JPY is staying in consolidation below 110.02 short term top and intraday bias remains neutral Another fall cannot be ruled out. Below 108.64 will bring deeper pull back to 38.2% retracement of 104.62 to 110.02 at 107.95. In that case, we’d expect strong support fro 107.95 to contain downside and bring rebound. On the upside, break of 110.02 will resume the rise from 104.62 to t 61.8% retracement of 114.73 to 104.62 at 110.86 next.

In the bigger picture, corrective decline from 118.65 (2016 high) has completed with three waves down to 104.62. Rise from 104.62 is possibly resuming the up trend from 98.97 (2016 low). This will be the preferred case as long as 55 day EMA (now at 107.95) holds. Decisive break of 114.73 resistance will confirm our view and target 118.65 and above. However, sustained break of 55 day EMA will dampen this bullish view and turn focus back to 104.62 low instead.

USD/JPY Weekly Outlook

USD/JPY’s fall from 110.28 extended to as low as 108.31. Initial bias is now on the downside this week for 107.65 key near term support next. On the upside, break of 109.26 resistance will turn bias back to the upside for 110.28 high instead.

In the bigger picture, there is no change in the bearish outlook yet in spite of the rebound from 104.45. The pair is staying in long term falling channel that started at 118.65 (Dec. 2016). Rise from 104.45 is seen as a correction and the down trend could still extend through 104.45 low. However, sustained break of the channel resistance will be an important sign of bullish reversal and target 114.54 resistance for confirmation.

USD/JPY Weekly Outlook

In the bigger picture, corrective decline from 118.65 (2016 high) should have completed at 101.18 already. Rise from the 102.58 is seen as the third leg of the up trend from 101.18. Next target is 114.54 resistance and then 118.65 high. This will now be the preferred case as long as 109.11 support hold, even in case of deep pull back.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 111.02; (P) 111.23; (R1) 111.52; More…

USD/JPY is still bounded in the consolidation below 111.78 temporary top. Intraday bias remains neutral for the moment. With 110.63 minor support intact, further rise is still expected. Break of 111.78 will target near term channel resistance (now at 112.85). Sustained break there will suggest that whole pull back from 118.65 has completed at 108.12 already. In such case, further rise should be seen to 114.36 resistance for confirmation. However, break of 110.63 will turn bias back to the downside for 108.81 instead.

In the bigger picture, price actions from 125.85 high are seen as a corrective pattern. It’s uncertain whether it’s completed yet. But in case of another fall, downside should be contained by 61.8% retracement of 75.56 to 125.85 at 94.77 to bring rebound. Overall, rise from 75.56 is still expected to resume later after the correction from 125.85 completes.

USD/JPY Weekly Outlook

USD/JPY edged lower to 110.10 last week then recovered. Such recovery was relatively weak and was held well below 55 day EMA before losing momentum and retreated. Overall, price actions from 118.65 are seen as a corrective pattern. But there is no confirmation that such correction is finished yet.

USD/JPY 4 Hours Chart

Initial bias in USD/JPY is neutral this week first. On the upside, above 112.19 will turn bias back to the upside. Sustained break of 55 day EMA (now at 112.86) will raise the chance of near term reversal and target 115.49 resistance for confirmation. On the downside, though, below 110.99 minor support will turn bias back to the downside for 110.10 and break will extend the corrective fall from 118.65.

USD/JPY Daily Chart

In the bigger picture, price actions from 125.85 high are seen as a corrective pattern. The impulsive structure of the rise from 98.97 suggests that the correction is completed and larger up trend is resuming. Decisive break of 125.85 will confirm and target 61.8% projection of 75.56 to 125.85 from 98.97 at 130.04 and then 135.20 long term resistance. Nonetheless, sustained trading below 55 week EMA (now at 111.08) will extend the consolidation from 125.85 with another fall through 98.97 before completion.

USD/JPY Weekly Chart

In the long term picture, the rise from 75.56 long term bottom to 125.85 medium term top is viewed as an impulsive move. Price actions from 125.85 are seen as a corrective move which could still extend. But, up trend from 75.56 is expected to resume at a later stage for above 135.20/147.68 resistance zone.

USD/JPY Monthly Chart

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 107.91; (P) 108.24; (R1) 108.50; More..

USD/JPY is staying in range of 107.77/109.08 and intraday bias remains neutral first. Outlook is unchanged as we’d expect upside to be limited by 109.46 resistance to complete the rebound from 104.69 short term bottom. On the downside, below 107.77 will turn bias to the downside for retesting 104.69 low. However, sustained break of 109.46 will dampen our view and bring stronger rebound instead.

In the bigger picture, price actions from 125.85 (2015 high) are seen as a long term corrective pattern, no change in this view. Apparently, such corrective pattern is not completed yet. Fall from 114.54 is seen as part of the falling leg from 118.65 (2016 high). Break of 104.62 will target 100% projection of 118.65 to 104.62 from 114.54 at 100.51, which is close to 100 psychological level. But in that case, we’d expect strong support from 98.97 to contain downside to bring reversal. Also, this bearish case will remain the preferred one as long as 114.54 resistance holds.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 113.41; (P) 113.73; (R1) 114.00; More..

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains on the downside at this point. Rebound from 112.30 should have completed at 114.03. Deeper decline would be seen back to 112.30 first. Break there will target 111.37 and possibly below. On the upside, above 114.03 will target a test on 114.54/73 key resistance zone. Overall, price actions from 114.54 are seen as a consolidation pattern. Hence, even in case of deep decline, downside should be contained by 38.2% retracement of 104.62 to 114.54 at 110.75 to bring rebound.

This will stay as the preferred case as long as 109.76 support holds. However, decisive break of 109.76 will dampen this bullish view and turns outlook mixed again.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 146.93; (P) 147.40; (R1) 147.76; More…

USD/JPY dips notably today, but stays well above 144.43 support. Intraday bias remains neutral at this point, as consolidation from 147.88 could extend. But outlook remains bullish with 144.43 support intact. On the upside, above 147.88 will resume larger rise from 127.20, to retest 151.93 high.

In the bigger picture, while rise from 127.20 is strong, it could still be seen as the second leg of the corrective pattern from 151.93 (2022 high). Rejection by 151.93, followed by break of 137.22 support will indicate that the third leg of the pattern has started. However, sustained break of 151.93 will confirm resumption of long term up trend.
