USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 150.01; (P) 150.35; (R1) 150.77; More…

USD/JPY’s rebound continues today but it’s still bounded in range of 148.79/151.69. Intraday bias stays neutral and outlook is unchanged. Further rally is expected as long as 148.79 support holds. Firm break of 151.69 high will resume larger up trend. However, decisive break of 148.79 will indicate rejection by 151.93 key resistance, and bring deeper fall through 147.28 support.

In the bigger picture, immediate focus is on 151.93 resistance (2022 high). Rejection by 151.93, followed by sustained break of 145.06 resistance turned support will argue that rise from 127.20 has completed, and turn outlook bearish for 137.22 support and below. However, sustained break of 151.93 will confirm resumption of long term up trend. Next target will be 61.8% projection of 102.58 to 151.93 from 127.20 at 157.69.

Intraday bias in turned neutral with current retreat and some consolidations would be seen below 161.94 temporary top. But further rally is expected as long as 160.25 minor support holds. Break of 161.94 will resume larger up trend to 61.8% projection of 146.47 to 160.20 from 154.53 at 163.01. Nevertheless, break of 160.25 will turn bias to the downside for deeper pullback.

In the bigger picture, long term up trend is still in progress. Further rise is expected as long as 154.53 support holds. Next target is 100% projection of 127.20 (2023 low) to 151.89 (2023 high) from 140.25 at 164.94.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 108.99; (P) 109.54; (R1) 110.02; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains on the downside at this point. Fall from 111.65 is at least correcting the whole rise from 102.58. Deeper decline should be seen to 38.2% retracement of 102.58 to 111.65 at 108.18 next. On the upside, break of 110.33 resistance is needed to indicate short term topping. Otherwise, outlook will stay bearish.

In the bigger picture, medium term outlook is staying neutral with 111.71 resistance intact. Sustained trading below 55 day EMA would argue that the pattern from 101.18 is starting another falling leg, that could head back to 102.58 support and below. For now, outlook won’t turn bullish as long as 111.71 resistance holds, even in case of strong rebound.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 112.49; (P) 112.68; (R1) 113.02; More..

USD/JPY’s fall from 112.88 extended lower today and focus is now on 111.94 minor support. Break should confirm that corrective rise from 111.62 has completed and larger fall from 114.54 is resuming. Intraday bias will be turned to the downside for 38.2% retracement of 104.62 to 114.54 at 110.75. As such decline is viewed as part of medium term correction, we’ll look for bottoming signal above 109.76 key support in that case. On the upside, above 112.88 will target 61.8% retracement of 114.54 to 111.62 at 113.42 instead.

In the bigger picture, corrective fall from 118.65 (2016 high) should have completed with three waves down to 104.62. Decisive break of 114.73 resistance will likely resume whole rally from 98.97 (2016 low) to 100% projection of 98.97 to 118.65 from 104.62 at 124.30, which is reasonably close to 125.85 (2015 high). This will stay as the preferred case as long as 109.76 support holds. However, decisive break of 109.76 will dampen this bullish view and turns outlook mixed again.

USD/JPY lost momentum after hitting 112.88 and intraday bias is turned neutral again. Further rise cannot be ruled out yet. But based on the corrective structure, upside should be limited by 61.8% retracement of 114.54 to 111.62 at 113.42. On the downside, below 111.94 minor support will turn bias to the downside to 111.62 low first. Break will resume the corrective fall from 114.54 to 38.2% retracement of 104.62 to 114.54 at 110.75. We’ll look for bottoming signal above 109.76 key support in that case.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 106.75; (P) 107.34; (R1) 107.77; More...

No change in USD/JPY’s outlook as range trading continues. Intraday bias remains neutral first. On the downside, decisive break of 106.75 support should confirm completion of rebound from 101.18, after failing 112.22 key resistance. Intraday bias will be turned back to the downside for retesting 101.18 low. On the upside, above 109.70 minor resistance will turn bias back to the upside for retesting 111.71. Decisive break of 112.22 carry larger bullish implication and target 114.54 resistance next.

In the bigger picture, at this point, whole decline from 118.65 (Dec 2016) continues to display a corrective look, with well channeling. There is no clear sign of completion yet. Break of 101.18 will target 98.97 (2016 low). Meanwhile, sustained break of 112.22 should confirm completion of the decline and turn outlook bullish for 118.65 and above.

USD/JPY Weekly Outlook

USD/JPY stayed in consolidation above 105.24 last week and outlook is unchanged. Initial bias remains neutral this week first. With 107.67 resistance holds, near term outlook remains bearish and deeper fall is expected. On the downside, break of 105.24 will resume larger decline from 118.65 and target 100% projection of 118.65 to 108.12 from 114.73 at 104.20 next. On the upside, firm break of 107.67 resistance will indicate near term reversal, on bullish convergence condition in 4 hour MACD. In such case, outlook will be turned bullish for 110.47 resistance next.

In the bigger picture, current development argues that the corrective pattern from 118.65 is extending. The solid break of 61.8% retracement of 98.97 to 118.65 at 106.48 now suggests that the pattern from 125.85 high is possibly extending. Deeper fall could be seen through 98.97 key support (2016 low). This bearish case will now be favored as long as 110.47 resistance holds.

In the long term picture, the rise from 75.56 (2011 low) long term bottom to 125.85 top is viewed as an impulsive move, no change in this view. Price actions from 125.85 are seen as a corrective move which could still extend. In case of deeper fall, downside should be contained by 61.8% retracement of 75.56 to 125.85 at 94.77. Up trend from 75.56 is expected to resume at a later stage for above 135.20/147.68 resistance zone.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Intraday bias in USD/JPY is mildly on the downside as pull back from 114.69 is extending. But downside should be contained above 112.07 resistance turned support to bring rise resumption. On the upside, firm break of 114.69 will resume the larger up trend to 100% projection of 102.58 to 111.65 from 109.11 at 118.18 next.

In the bigger picture, corrective decline from 118.65 (2016 high) should have completed at 101.18 already. Rise from the 102.58 is seen as the third leg of the up trend from 101.18. Next target is 114.54 resistance and then 118.65 high. This will now be the preferred case as long as 109.11 support hold, even in case of deep pull back.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 108.40; (P) 108.63; (R1) 108.78; More..

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains neutral as range trading continues. With 108.27 support intact, further rally is still expected. On the upside, above 109.20 minor resistance will bring retest of 109.72 first. However, firm break of 108.27 will indicate near term reversal and turn outlook bearish for 106.48 support.

In the bigger picture, strong support was seen from 104.62 again. Yet, there is no confirmation of medium term reversal. Corrective decline from 118.65 (Dec. 2016) could still extend lower. But in that case, we’d expect strong support above 98.97 (2016 low) to contain downside to bring rebound. Meanwhile, on the upside, break of 112.40 key resistance will be a strong sign of start of medium term up trend.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 105.99; (P) 106.61; (R1) 107.14; More...

With 107.22 minor resistance intact, intraday bias in USD/JPY stays on the downside. Current fall is part of the corrective pattern from 111.71, and should target 105.98 support and below. But downside should be contained by 61.8% retracement of 101.18 to 111.71 at 105.20 to bring rebound. On the upside, break of 107.22 minor resistance will turn bias back to the upside for rebound.

In the bigger picture, USD/JPY is still staying in long term falling channel that started back in 118.65 (Dec2016). Hence, there is no clear indication of trend reversal yet. Break of 105.98 support could extend the down trend through 101.18 low. However, sustained break of 112.22 should confirm completion of the down trend and turn outlook bullish for 118.65 and above.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 112.84; (P) 113.03; (R1) 113.29; More…

USD/JPY remains in range of 111.58/114.94 and intraday bias stays neutral at this point. Corrective fall from 118.65 could extend lower through 111.58. But we’d still expect strong support from 38.2% retracement of 98.97 to 118.65 at 111.13 to contain downside and bring rebound. On the upside, above 114.94 resistance should confirm completion of pull back from 118.65. In such case, intraday bias will be turned back to the upside for retesting 118.65.

In the bigger picture, price actions from 125.85 high are seen as a corrective pattern. The impulsive structure of the rise from 98.97 suggests that the correction is completed and larger up trend is resuming. Decisive break of 125.85 will confirm and target 61.8% projection of 75.56 to 125.85 from 98.97 at 130.04 and then 135.20 long term resistance. Rejection from 125.85 and below will extend the consolidation with another falling leg before up trend resumption.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 106.89; (P) 107.19; (R1) 107.68; More…

USD/JPY’s rebound from 104.62 is still in progress. Intraday bias stays on the upside for 38.2% retracement of 114.73 to 104.62 at 108.48. Firm break there will add some credence to the case of trend reversal. And USD/JPY should target 61.8% retracement at 110.86 next. Nonetheless, rejection from 108.48 (which is close to 108.12 key resistance too), will retain bearish next. Break of 105.65 support will indicate that the rebound is completed and turn bias back to the downside for 104.62 and below.

In the bigger picture, medium term down trend from 118.65 (2016 high) is still in progress and extending. Build up in downside momentum argues that it might be extending the whole corrective pattern from 125.85 (2015 high). 100% projection of 118.65 to 108.12 from 114.73 at 104.20 will be a key level to watch as firm break there could bring downside acceleration. And in that case, 98.97 key support level (2016 low) would at least be breached. This bearish case will now be favored as long as 108.12 support turned resistance holds.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 109.04; (P) 109.25; (R1) 109.52; More…

USD/JPY’s really resumes today and reaches as high as 109.69 so far. Intraday bias is back on the upside. Current rise from 104.62 should target 61.8% retracement of 114.73 to 104.62 at 110.86 next. On the downside, below 108.96 will turn intraday bias neutral again and bring consolidations.

In the bigger picture, break of 108.12 support turned resistance now suggests that corrective fall from 118.65 (2016 high) has completed with three waves down to 104.62. And, rise from 98.97 (2016 low) could be resuming. Focus is back on 114.73 resistance and break there will pave the way to 118.65 and above. This will now be the preferred case as long as USD/JPY stays above 55 day EMA (now at 107.78).

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains on the upside for 114.49 resistance . As noted before, correction pattern from 118.65 could have completed at 107.31 already. Decisive of 114.49 resistance should confirm this bullish case and target 118.65 resistance and above. For now, this will be the preferred case as long as 111.64 support holds.

In the bigger picture, medium term rise from 98.97 (2016 low) is not completed yet. It should resume after corrective fall from 118.65 completed. Break of 114.49 resistance will likely resume the rise to 61.8% projection of 98.97 to 118.65 from 107.31 at 119.47 first. Firm break there will pave the way to 100% projection at 126.99. This will be the key level to decide whether long term up trend is resuming.

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains on the downside for the moment. Current down trend would target 161.8% projection of 106.10 to 104.02 from 105.34 at 101.97 on next fall. On the upside, above 104.02 support turned resistance will turn intraday bias neutral first. But overall near term outlook will remain bearish as long as 105.34 resistance holds.

In the bigger picture, USD/JPY is still staying in long term falling channel that started back in 118.65 (Dec. 2016). Hence, there is no clear indication of trend reversal yet. The down trend could still extend through 101.18 low. On the upside, break of 106.10 resistance is needed to be the first signal of medium term reversal. Otherwise, outlook will remain bearish.

USD/JPY’s rally extends to as high as 110.21 so far and intraday bias remains on the upside. Current rally from 104.45 should target 100% projection of 106.48 to 109.72 from 107.65 at 110.89 next. On the downside, below 109.43 minor support will turn intraday bias neutral and bring consolidations first, before staging another rally.

However, sustained break of the channel resistance will be an important sign of bullish reversal and target 114.54 resistance for confirmation.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 108.69; (P) 109.07; (R1) 109.68; More..

USD/JPY retreats notably after failing to break through 109.72 resistance. Intraday bias is turned neutral first. As long as 108.27 support holds, outlook remains bullish for further rally. On the upside, break of 109.72 will resume the rise fro 104.45 for 100% projection of 104.45 to 108.47 from 106.48 at 110.50. However, sustained break of 108.27 support will indicate near term reversal and turn outlook bearish.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 110.18; (P) 110.40; (R1) 110.58; More…

Outlook in USD/JPY remains unchanged. Corrective recovery from 109.02 should be limited by 55 day EMA (now at 110.82) to bring another fall. On the downside, below 109.81 minor support will turn bias back to the downside for 109.02. Break there will extend the decline from 112.40 to retest 104.69 low. However, sustained trading above 55 day EMA will indicate completion of the fall from 112.40 and bring retest of this high.

In the bigger picture, USD/JPY is staying inside falling channel from 118.65. Currently development suggests that rebound from 104.69 is only a corrective move. And fall from 118.65 is not completed yet. Decisive break of 104.69 will extend the down trend towards 98.97 support (2016 low). For now, we’d expect strong support above there to bring rebound.

Otherwise, outlook will stay bearish in case of recovery.
