Daily Pivots: (S1) 128.87; (P) 129.32; (R1) 129.82; More…

USD/JPY is staying in consolidation from 131.34 and intraday bias remains neutral for the moment. Another fall could be seen and break of 127.51 will target 125.09 cluster support (38.2% retracement of 114.40 to 131.34 at 124.86). On the upside, firm break of 131.34 will resume larger up trend.

In the bigger picture, current rally is seen as part of the long term up trend form 75.56 (2011 low). Sustained trading above 61.8% projection of 75.56 (2011 low) to 125.85 (2015 high) from 98.97 at 130.04 will pave the way to 100% projection at 149.26, which is close to 147.68 (1998 high). For now, this will remain the favored case as long as 121.27 support holds.

Daily Pivots: (S1) 105.32; (P) 105.51; (R1) 105.72; More...

Intraday bias in USD/JPY stays neutral at this point. Further rise is mildly in favor as long as 105.20 minor support holds. On the upside, break of 106.47 will re-affirm the case of near term reversal. That is, corrective decline from 111.71 has completed with three waves down to 104.18. In this case, further rise should be seen to 108.16 resistance next. However, on the downside, break of 105.20 minor support will suggest completion of rebound from 104.18. Intraday bias will be turned back to retest this low.

In the bigger picture, USD/JPY is still staying in long term falling channel that started back in 118.65 (Dec. 2016). Hence, there is no clear indication of trend reversal yet. The down trend could still extend through 101.18 low. However, sustained break of 112.22 should confirm completion of the down trend and turn outlook bullish for 118.65 and above.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 134.11; (P) 134.62; (R1) 135.34; More…

No change in USD/JPY’s outlook and intraday bias stays neutral. Further decline is still in favor with 135.68 minor resistance intact. Fall from 137.76 is seen as the third leg of the pattern from 137.90. Below 133.48 will target 133.00 first, break will target 129.62 support. Still, as long as 129.62 holds, larger rebound from 127.20 is still in favor to resume at a later stage. On the upside, above 135.68 minor resistance will turn bias back to the upside for 137.76/90 instead.

In the bigger picture, price actions from 151.93 high are currently seen as a corrective pattern to the long term up trend. The first leg should have completed at 127.20. Rebound from there is seen as the second leg. Sustained break of 38.2% retracement of 151.93 to 127.20 at 136.34 will bring stronger rebound to 61.8% retracement at 142.48. Meanwhile, break of 129.62 will argue that the third leg is starting through 127.20 low.

Daily Pivots: (S1) 145.46; (P) 145.93; (R1) 146.36; More…

Range trading continues in USD/JPY and intraday bias bias stays neutral. On the upside, sustained break of 61.8% projection of 129.62 to 145.06 from 137.22 at 146.76 will pave the way to retest 151.93 high. However, considering bearish divergence condition in 4H MACD, firm break of 44.92 support will be a sign of reversal, and turn bias back to the downside for 55 D EMA (now at 142.09).

In the bigger picture, overall price actions from 151.93 (2022 high) are views as a corrective pattern. Rise from 127.20 is seen as the second leg of the pattern and could still be in progress. But even in case of extended rise, strong resistance should be seen from 151.93 to limit upside. Meanwhile, break of 137.22 support should confirm the start of the third leg to 127.20 (2023 low) and below.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 103.38; (P) 103.54; (R1) 103.66; More..

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains neutral for the moment. Some more consolidations could be seen above 102.87. Still, outlook remains bearish as it’s staying well inside falling channel from 111.71. Break of 102.87 will bring deeper fall to retest 101.18 low. On the upside, break of 104.57 resistance is needed to be the first sign of bullish reversal. Otherwise, outlook will stay bearish in case of strong recovery.

In the bigger picture, USD/JPY is still staying in long term falling channel that started back in 118.65 (Dec. 2016). Hence, there is no clear indication of trend reversal yet. The down trend could still extend through 101.18 low. On the upside, break of 106.10 resistance is needed to be the first signal of medium term reversal. Otherwise, outlook will remain bearish.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains neutral as consolidation from 114.05 temporary top is extending. Another fall could be seen. But in that case, downside should be contained above 112.55 support to bring rise resumption. On the upside, above 114.05 will target 114.73 key resistance. Decisive break there will confirm larger bullish case. Next target will be 118.65 resistance.

In the bigger picture, corrective fall from 118.65 (2016 high) should have completed with three waves down to 104.62. Decisive break of 114.73 resistance will likely resume whole rally from 98.97 (2016 low) to 100% projection of 98.97 to 118.65 from 104.62 at 124.30, which is reasonably close to 125.85 (2015 high). This will stay as the preferred case as long as 109.76 support holds.

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains neutral and consolidation from 129.39 could extend further. Deeper retreat cannot be ruled out but downside should be contained above 125.09 resistance turned support to bring another rally. On the upside, above 129.39 will resume larger up trend to 130.04 long term projection level next.

In the bigger picture, the break of 125.85 resistance (2015 high) suggests that whole up trend from 75.56 (2011 low) is resuming. Further rise should be seen to 61.8% projection of 75.56 (2011 low) to 125.85 (2015 high) from 98.97 at 130.04. Sustained break there wave the way to 147.68 (1998 high). For now, this will remain the favored case as long as 121.27 support holds.

Range trading continues in USD/JPY and intraday bias remains neutral first. On the downside, break of 105.10 will target a test on 104.18 low. Break there will resume whole decline from 111.71. On the upside, break of 107.05 will revive the case of near term reversal and bring stronger rally towards 109.85 resistance.

Daily Pivots: (S1) 114.49; (P) 114.71; (R1) 115.10; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains on the upside as rise from 112.52 is in progress. Further rise would be seen to retest 115.51 high first. Firm break there will resume larger up trend to 118.65 long term resistance next. On the downside, however, break of 114.30 will turn bias to the downside, and extend the corrective pattern from 115.51 with another falling leg back to 112.52 support.

In the bigger picture, no change in the view that rise from 102.58 is the third leg of the up trend from 101.18 (2020 low). Such rally should target a test on 118.65 (2016 high) on resumption. However, firm break of 109.11 structural support will argue that the trend might have reversed and bring deeper fall to 107.47 support and possibly below.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 113.89; (P) 114.22; (R1) 114.47; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY stays on the downside for 113.47. Break will resume the fall from 112.52 structural support. Considering bearish divergence condition in in daily MACD, further break of 112.52 will confirm that it’s already in correction to the up trend from 102.58. Deeper decline would be seen to 38.2% retracement of 102.58 to 116.34 at 111.08. For now, risk will stay on the downside as long as 115.05 resistance holds, in case of recovery.

In the bigger picture, no change in the view that rise from 102.58 is the third leg of the up trend from 101.18 (2020 low). Such rally should target a test on 118.65 (2016 high). Sustained break there will pave the way to 120.85 (2015 high) and raise the chance of long term up trend resumption. However, firm break of 112.52 support will dampen this bullish case and we’ll assess the outlook based on subsequent price actions later.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 146.27; (P) 147.32; (R1) 148.97; More…

Intraday bias in USD/JPY stays neutral as consolidation from 151.39 is extending. Deeper decline cannot be ruled out, but downside should be contained by 38.2% retracement of 130.38 to 151.93 at 143.69 to bring rebound. On the upside, above 149.69 minor resistance will bring stronger rebound back towards 151.93 high. But upside should be limited there to continue the corrective pattern.

In the bigger picture, up trend from 101.18 is still in progress, as part of the whole up trend from 75.56 (2011 low). 147.68 (1998 high) was already met and there is no clearly sign of topping yet. In any case, break of 140.33 support is needed to be the first sign of medium term topping. Otherwise, further rise is in favor to next target at 160.16 (1990 high).

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 109.59; (P) 109.84; (R1) 110.07; More…

USD/JPY’s rally resumed by taking out 110.16 and reaches as high as 110.45 so far. Intraday bias is back on the upside for 61.8% retracement of 114.54 to 104.69 at 110.77. At this point, we’d still expect strong resistance from 110.77 to limit upside to bring near term reversal. On the downside, break of 109.66 minor support will turn intraday bias back to the downside for 108.49. Break will confirm completion of rebound from 104.69. However, sustained trading above 110.77 will dampen our bearish view and target a test on 114.54 resistance instead.

In the bigger picture, while the rebound from 104.69 is strong, there is no change in the view that it’s a corrective move. That is, fall from 114.54, as part of the decline from 118.65 (2016 high), is not completed yet. Break of 104.62 will target 100% projection of 118.65 to 104.62 from 114.54 at 100.51, which is close to 100 psychological level. Nevertheless, sustained trading above 55 day EMA (now at 110.41) will dampen this bearish view and turn focus back to 114.54 resistance instead.

Intraday bias in USD/JPY stays neutral at this point and outlook is unchanged. On the downside, firm break of 106.91 support will resume whole decline from 111.71. Intraday bias will be turned to the downside for 100% projection of 111.71 to 106.91 from 109.38 at 104.58. On the upside, break of 109.38 will suggest that fall from 111.71 has completed. Intraday bias will be turned back to the upside for 111.71/112.22 resistance zone.

In the bigger picture, at this point, whole decline from 118.65 (Dec 2016) continues to display a corrective look, with well channeling. There is no clear sign of completion yet. Break of 101.18 will target 98.97 (2016 low). Meanwhile, sustained break of 112.22 should confirm completion of the decline and turn outlook bullish for 118.65 and above.

USD/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 108.63; (P) 108.98; (R1) 109.21; More..

Intraday bias in USD/JPY remains neutral first. Further rise is expected as long as 108.33 minor support holds. On the upside, break of 109.35 will resume the rally from 102.58 to long term channel resistance at 110.02 next. Decisive break there will carry larger implications. However, on the downside, break of 108.33 will indicate short term topping. Intraday bias will be turned to the downside for correction.

In the bigger picture, focus is now back on long term channel resistance (now at 110.02). Sustained break there will indicate that the down trend from 118.65 (Dec 2016) has completed. Further break of 112.22 resistance will confirm this bullish case and target 118.65 next. However, rejection by the channel resistance will keep medium term outlook bearish.

USD/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

USD/JPY is still bounded in consolidation from 148.79 and intraday bias remains neutral. With 145.97 resistance turned support intact, further rally is in favor. As noted before, corrective fall from 151.89 should have completed at 140.25 already. Break of 148.79 will resume the rise from there for retesting 151.89/93 key resistance zone.

In the bigger picture, stronger than expected rebound from 140.25 dampened the original bearish review. Strong support from 55 W EMA (now at 142.33) is also a medium term bullish sign. Fall from 151.89 could be a correction to rise from 127.20 only. Decisive break of 151.89/93 will confirm resumption of long term up trend. This will now be the favored case as long as 140.25 support holds.

In the bigger picture, USD/JPY is still staying in long term falling channel that started back in 118.65 (Dec. 2016). Hence, there is no clear indication of trend reversal yet. USD/JPY’s rally is in progress and intraday bias stays on the upside. Decisive break of 145.06 will resume whole rise from 127.20. Next target is 61.8% projection of 129.62 to 145.06 from 137.22 at 146.76. On the downside, however, below 143.27 minor support will delay the bullish case and turn intraday bias neutral again.

Break will target long term channel resistance at 111.78 next. On the downside, below 109.33 minor support will turn intraday bias neutral and bring consolidations first. In this case, downside of retreat should be contained above 108.27 support to bring rise resumption.

In the bigger picture, strong support was seen from 104.62 again. Yet, there is no confirmation of medium term reversal. Corrective decline from 118.65 (Dec. 2016) could still extend lower. But in that case, we’d expect strong support above 98.97 (2016 low) to contain downside to bring rebound. Meanwhile, on the upside, break of 112.40 key resistance will be a strong sign of start of medium term up trend.
