GBP/USD Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 1.2466; (P) 1.2512; (R1) 1.2590; More

GBP/USD continues to stay in range of 1.2376/2614. Intraday bias remains neutral at this point. Overall, price actions from 1.1946 are viewed as a consolidation pattern pattern. On the downside, below 1.2376 will target 1.2108 support next. Break there will be an early sign of larger down trend resumption. On the upside, break of 1.2614 will extend the rise from 1.2108. But upside should be limited by 1.2705/2774 resistance zone to bring larger down trend resumption eventually.

In the bigger picture, fall from 1.7190 is seen as part of the down trend from 2.1161. There is no sign of medium term reversal yet. Sustained trading below 61.8% projection of 2.1161 to 1.3503 from 1.7190 at 1.2457 will target 100% projection at 0.9532. Overall, break of 1.3444 resistance is needed to confirm medium term bottoming. Otherwise, outlook will remain bearish.

Daily Pivots: (S1) 1.3019; (P) 1.3069; (R1) 1.3113; More….

With 1.3221 minor resistance intact, deeper fall is expected in GBP/USD for 1.2773 key support level. Current strong downside momentum is raising the chance of medium term reversal. Decisive break there will affirm this bearish case and bring deeper fall to retest 1.1946 low. Meanwhile, break of 1.3221 minor resistance will at least indicate near term bottoming and turn bias back to the upside for rebound.

In the bigger picture, while the medium term rebound from 1.1946 was strong, GBP/USD hit strong resistance from the falling trend line. Outlook is turned a bit mixed and we’ll turn neutral first. On the downside, decisive break of 1.2773 key support will argue that rebound from 1.1946 has completed. The corrective structure of rise from 1.1946 to 1.3651 will in turn suggest that long term down trend is now completed. Break of 1.1946 low should then be seen. On the upside, break of 1.3835 support turned resistance will revive the case of trend reversal and target 38.2% retracement of 2.1161 (2007 high) to 1.1946 (2016 low) at 1.5466 .

GBP/USD rebounded strongly after hitting 1.2346 and intraday bias is turned neutral first. Price actions from 1.1946 are viewed as a consolidation, no change in this view. In case of another rise, we’d expect upside to be limited by 1.2774 to bring larger down trend resumption. On the downside, below 1.2346 will revive the case that such consolidation is completed at 1.2705 already. In that case, intraday bias will turn back to the downside for retesting 1.1946 low.

In the bigger picture, fall from 1.7190 is seen as part of the down trend from 2.1161. There is no sign of medium term bottoming yet. Sustained trading below 61.8% projection of 2.1161 to 1.3503 from 1.7190 at 1.2457 will target 100% projection at 0.9532. Daily Pivots: (S1) 1.3905; (P) 1.3988; (R1) 1.4048; More….

GBP/USD is still bounded in range of 1.3764/4144 and intraday bias strays neutral. On the upside, break of 1.4144 will extend the rise from 1.3764 and target a test on 1.4345 resistance. Break there will resume larger up trend and target long term trend line resistance (now at 1.5056). On the downside, below 1.3764 will extend the correction from 1.4345 to 1.3651 resistance turned support instead.

In the bigger picture, as long as 1.3038 support holds, medium term outlook in GBP/USD will remains bullish. Rise from 1.1946 is at least correcting the long term down from 2007 high at 2.1161. Further rally would be seen back to 38.2% retracement of 2.1161 (2007 high) to 1.1946 (2016 low) at 1.5466. However, GBP/USD fails to sustain above 55 month EMA (now at 1.4279) so far. Break of 1.3038 support, will suggests that rise from 1.1946 has completed and will turn outlook bearish for retesting this low.

Intraday bias in GBP/USD remains on the downside for 1.1946/86 support zone. The consolidation pattern from 1.1946 has possibly completed at 1.2705 too. GBP/USD is staying in range of 1.3038/3337 and intraday bias remains neutral. In case of another recovery, upside should be limited below 1.3337 resistance to bring fall resumption. Break of 1.3038 will now resume decline from 1.3651 to 1.2773 key support level. However, decisive break of 1.3337 will indicate that pull back from 1.3651 is completed and medium term rise from 1.1946 is resuming.

In the bigger picture, as noted before, GBP/USD hit strong resistance from the long term falling trend line. Current development is starting to favor that corrective rebound from 1.1946 low has completed at 1.3651. Decisive break of 1.2773 will confirm this bearish case and target a test on 1.1946 low next, with prospect of resuming the low term down trend. Nonetheless, break of 1.3320 resistance will restore the rise from 1.1946 for 38.2% retracement of 2.1161 (2007 high) to 1.1946 (2016 low) at 1.5466.

GBP/USD is staying in corrective trading below 1.3549 and intraday bias remains neutral first. As long as 1.3220 support holds, we’d continue to favor another rise. On the upside, break of 1.3549 will target 1.3651 high next. However, firm break of 1.3220 will turn near term outlook bearish for 1.3038 key support level.

In the bigger picture, while the medium term rebound from 1.1946 low was strong, it’s limited below 1.3835 key support turned resistance. As long as 1.3835 holds, we’d view such rebound as a correction. That is, we’d expect another leg in the long term down trend through 1.1946 low. However, sustained break of 1.3835 should at least send GBP/USD to 38.2% retracement of 2.1161 (2007 high) to 1.1946 (2016 low) at 1.5466.

GBP/USD’s rebound and break of 1.2926 minor resistance suggests that pull back from 1.3029 has completed at 1.2811 already. Intraday bias is turned back to the upside for 1.3029/47 resistance zone. Decisive break there will extend the larger rally to 61.8% projection of 1.2108 to 1.3047 from 1.2588 at 1.3168 next. On the downside, sustained break of 1.2811 and 55 day EMA will dampen our bullish view and turn bias back to the downside for 1.2588 support instead.

In the bigger picture, overall, price actions from 1.1946 medium term low are seen as a corrective pattern that is still in progress. While further upside is now in favor, overall outlook remains bearish as long as 1.3444 key resistance holds. Larger down trend from 1.7190 is expected to resume later after the correction completes. Intraday bias in GBP/USD remains neutral as it’s still bounded in range below 1.2965 temporary top. Further rise remains in favor with 1.2755 support intact. Break of 1.2965 will target 161.8% projection of 1.2108 to 1.2614 from 1.2365 at 1.3184. At this point, price actions from 1.1946 are still seen as a correction pattern. GBP/USD’s rise from 1.3038 resumed after steep but brief pull back. Intraday bias is back on the upside for 61.8% retracement of 1.3651 to 1.3026 at 1.3412. Sustained break there will pave the way to retest 1.3651 high. Nonetheless, rejection from 1.3412, followed by break of 1.3220 support, will indicate that price actions from 1.3026 is merely a correction. And intraday bias would be turned back to the downside for 1.3026 low.

In the bigger picture, as noted before, GBP/USD hit strong resistance from the long term falling trend line. Nonetheless, subsequent fall was contained by 55 week EMA (now at 1.3069). Despite dipping to 1.3481, GBP/USD quickly recovered and is back above 4 hour 55 EMA. Intraday bias remains neutral first. At this point, another rise is still in favor. Above 1.3612 will target 1.3651 key resistance first. Break will resume medium term rise from 1.1946 and target key resistance level at 1.3835. However, another decline and break of 1.3481 will raise the chance of near term reversal and turn focus back to 1.3300 support.

In the bigger picture, the break of long term trend line resistance from 1.7190 (2014 high) is seen as a sign of long term reversal. However, rise from 1.1946 (2016 low) is not impulsive looking. And the pair is limited below 1.3835 key resistance. Hence, we won’t turn bullish yet and would continue to monitor the development. On the downside, break of 1.3038 support will now indicate that rebound from 1.1946 has completed and turn outlook bearish. GBP/USD’s rebound from 1.2773 extend today but it’s staying below 1.3030 resistance. Intraday bias remains neutral with bearish near term outlook. We’re favoring the case that correction from 1.1946 is completed at 1.3267. Below 1.2852 will turn intraday bias back to the downside for 1.2588 key near term support first. Decisive break of 1.2588 will confirm our view and target a test on 1.1946 low. Though, break of 1.3030 will dampen this bearish view and turn bias back to the upside for retesting 1.3267.

In the bigger picture, overall, price actions from 1.1946 medium term low are seen as a corrective pattern. While further rise cannot be ruled out, larger outlook remains bearish as long as 1.3444 key resistance holds. Down trend from 1.7190 (2014 high) is expected to resume later after the correction completes. And break of 1.2588 will indicate that such down trend is resuming.

On resumption, such decline would extend deeper to 100% projection of 2.1161 to 1.3503 from 1.7190 at 0.9532. However, firm break of 1.3444 should confirm reversal and turn outlook bullish.

But upside should be limited by 38.2% retracement of 1.3381 to 1.2506 at 1.2840. On the downside, break of 1.2642 minor support will turn intraday bias back to retest 1.2506 low.
