GBP/USD Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 1.2612; (P) 1.2641; (R1) 1.2670; More…

No change in GBP/USD’s outlook and further decline is expected with 1.2702 resistance intact. Sustained trading below 1.2633 resistance turned support will argue that whole rise from 1.2298 has completed, and target 1.2445 and below. On the upside, however, firm break of 1.2702 resistance will argue that pull back from 1.2859 has completed, and bring retest of this high instead.

In the bigger picture, price actions from 1.3141 medium term top are seen as a corrective pattern that is still in progress. Break of 1.2445 support will confirm that another falling leg has started and target 1.2036 cluster support again (38.2% retracement of 1.0351 (2022 low) to 1.3141 at 1.2075. Nevertheless, break of 1.2892 resistance will argue that larger up trend from 1.0351is ready to resume through 1.3141.

GBP/USD Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 1.2422; (P) 1.2485; (R1) 1.2528; More

GBP/USD drops notably today but stays in range above 1.2346 minor support. Intraday bias remains neutral first. Price actions from 1.1946 are viewed as a consolidation pattern, with rise from 1.1986 as the third leg. In case of another rise, we’d expect upside to be limited by 1.2774 to bring larger down trend resumption. On the downside, below 1.2346 will revive the case that such consolidation is completed at 1.2705 already. In that case, intraday bias will turn back to the downside for retesting 1.1946 low.

In the bigger picture, fall from 1.7190 is seen as part of the down trend from 2.1161. There is no sign of medium term bottoming yet. Sustained trading below 61.8% projection of 2.1161 to 1.3503 from 1.7190 at 1.2457 will target 100% projection at 0.9532. Overall, break of 1.3444 resistance is needed to confirm medium term bottoming. Otherwise, outlook will remain bearish.

GBP/USD Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 1.3140; (P) 1.3177; (R1) 1.3243; More….

No change in GBP/USD’s outlook as it’s still bounded in range of 1.3026/3337. Intraday bias remains neutral for the moment. On the downside, firm break of 1.3026 support will resume the decline from 1.3651 and target 1.2773 key support level. This will also revive the case of medium term reversal. On the upside, in case of another rally, upside should be limited by 61.8% retracement of 1.3651 to 1.3026 at 1.3412 to bring fall resumption finally.

In the bigger picture, while the medium term rebound from 1.1946 was strong, GBP/USD hit strong resistance from the long term falling trend line. Outlook is turned a bit mixed and we’ll stay neutral first. On the downside, decisive break of 1.2773 key support will argue that rebound from 1.1946 has completed. The corrective structure of rise from 1.1946 to 1.3651 will in turn suggest that long term down trend is now completed. Break of 1.1946 low should then be seen. On the upside, break of 1.3835 support turned resistance will revive the case of trend reversal and target 38.2% retracement of 2.1161 (2007 high) to 1.1946 (2016 low) at 1.5466 .

GBP/USD’s correction from 1.3549 is still extending and intraday bias remains neutral at this point. As long as 1.3220 support holds, we’d favor another rise. Break of 1.3549 will target 1.3651 high next. Break there will resume medium term rally from 1.1946. However, firm break of 1.3220 will turn near term outlook bearish for 1.3038 key support level.

In the bigger picture, while the medium term rebound from 1.1946 low was strong, it’s limited below 1.3835 key support turned resistance. As long as 1.3835 holds, we’d view such rebound as a correction. That is, we’d expect another leg in the long term down trend through 1.1946 low. However, sustained break of 1.3835 should at least send GBP/USD to 38.2% retracement of 2.1161 (2007 high) to 1.1946 (2016 low) at 1.5466.

Intraday bias in GBP/USD remains on the downside as fall from 1.3267 is in progress for 1.2588 key near term support. As noted before, we’re favoring the case that correction from 1.1946 is completed at 1.3267. Decisive break of 1.2588 will confirm our view and target a test on 1.1946 low. On the upside, break of 1.2952 resistance is needed to indicate completion of the fall from 1.3267. Otherwise, outlook will stay cautiously bearish in case of recovery.

In the bigger picture, overall, price actions from 1.1946 medium term low are seen as a corrective pattern. While further rise cannot be ruled out, larger outlook remains bearish as long as 1.3444 key resistance holds. Down trend from 1.7190 (2014 high) is expected to resume later after the correction completes. And break of 1.2588 will indicate that such down trend is resuming.

With 1.2188 minor support intact, rebound from 1.1986 could extend higher through 1.2432 resistance. But still, such rise is seen as the third leg of the consolidation pattern from 1.1946. Thus, we’d expect strong resistance at 1.2774 to limit upside and bring down trend resumption eventually. On the downside, below 1.2188 minor support will turn bias to the downside for retesting 1.1946 low.

In the bigger picture, fall from 1.7190 is seen as part of the down trend from 2.1161. There is no sign of medium term bottoming yet. Intraday bias in GBP/USD remains neutral for the moment. With 1.2614 resistance turned support holds, near term outlook remains bullish for further rise. Firm break of 100% projection of 1.2108 to 1.2614 from 1.2365 at 1.2871 will target 161.8% retracement at 1.3184. Still, price actions from 1.1946 are seen as a correction. On the downside, break of 1.2614 resistance turned support will turn bias back to the downside for 1.2365 support first.

A temporary top is in place at 1.3612 in GBP/USD and intraday bias is turned neutral for consolidation first. As long as 4 hour 55 EMA (now at 1.3455) holds, further rally is expected. Above 1.3612 will target 1.3651 key resistance first. Break will resume medium term rise from 1.1946 and target key resistance level at 1.3835. No change in GBP/USD’s outlook. Price actions from 1.1946 is seen as a corrective pattern. Considering bearish divergence condition in 4 hour MACD, we’d stay cautious on strong resistance from 61.8% projection of 1.2108 to 1.3047 from 1.2588 at 1.3168 to limit upside. Break of 1.2932 support will be the first sign of reversal and will turn bias to the downside to target 1.2588 key support next. Though, sustained break of 1.3168 will bring further rise towards 1.3444 before completing the correction.

GBP/USD’s recovery was limited by 4 hour 55 EMA. Subsequent break of 1.3835 indicates resumption of decline from 1.4345 and intraday bias is turned to the downside for 1.3651 resistance turned support. At this point, it’s still unsure whether decline from 1.4345 is correcting rise from 1.3038, or that from 1.1946, or it’s reversing the trend. Break of 1.3651 will turn focus to key fibonacci level at 1.3429. For the moment, further decline will remain expected as long as 1.4066 minor resistance holds.

In the bigger picture, sustained break of 1.3835 key resistance level indicates that rebound from 1.1946 is at least correcting the long term down from from 2007 high at 2.1161. Further rise should now be seen back to 38.2% retracement of 2.1161 (2007 high) to 1.1946 (2016 low) at 1.5466. However, firstly, price actions from 1.1946 are viewed as a corrective pattern. Secondly, bearish divergence condition is seen in 4 hour MACD. Hence, in case of another rise, we’d start to look for reversal signal again above 1.2987. Meanwhile, break of 1.2830 will indicate short term topping.
