GBP/USD Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 1.2603; (P) 1.2662; (R1) 1.2692; More….

Intraday bias in GBP/USD remains neutral as consolidation continues. Stronger recovery cannot be ruled out. Upside should be limited by 1.2811 resistance to bring decline resumption. On the downside, break of 1.2476 will extend larger down trend from 1.4376 to 61.8% projection of 1.4376 to 1.2661 from 1.3174 at 1.2114. However, firm break of 1.2811 will be an early signal of trend reversal and turn focus back to 1.3174 resistance.

In the bigger picture, whole medium term rebound from 1.1946 (2016 low) should have completed at 1.4376 already, after rejection from 55 month EMA. The structure and momentum of the fall from 1.4376 argues that it’s resuming long term down trend from 2.1161 (2007 high). And this will now remain the preferred case as long as 1.3174 structural resistance holds. GBP/USD should now target a test on 1.1946 first. Decisive break there will confirm our bearish view.

GBP/USD Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 1.2624; (P) 1.2654; (R1) 1.2673; More…

Intraday bias in GBP/USD remains mildly on the downside for 1.2517/38 support zone. Decisive break there will suggest that rise from 1.2036 has completed at 1.2892 already, and turn near term outlook bearish. On the upside, however, firm break of 1.2682 will suggest that fall from 1.2892 has completed at 1.2538. Intraday bias will be turned back to the upside for 1.2802 resistance next.

In the bigger picture, price actions from 1.3141 medium term top are seen as a corrective pattern to up trend from 1.0351 (2022 low). Rise from 1.2036 is seen as the second leg, which might still be in progress. But upside should be limited by 1.3141 to bring the third leg of the pattern. Meanwhile, break of 1.2517 support will argue that the third leg has already started for 38.2% retracement of 1.0351 (2022 low) to 1.3141 at 1.2075 again.

GBP/USD Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 1.2962; (P) 1.3049; (R1) 1.3120; More….

GBP/USD recovered ahead of 1.2960 support today. Intraday bias remains neutral first and consolidation from 1.3381 might extend further. As long as 1.2960 support holds, further rise is mildly in favor. On the upside, firm break of 1.3381 will target 61.8% retracement of 1.4376 to 1.2391 at 1.3618 next. However, on the downside, firm break of 1.2960 will indicate that rebound from 1.2391 has completed earlier than expected. Deeper fall would then be seen to 1.2773 support for confirmation.

In the bigger picture, medium term decline from 1.4376 (2018 high) should have completed at 1.2391. Rise from 1.2391 is seen as the third leg of the corrective pattern from 1.1946 (2016 low). Further rise could be seen through 1.4376 in medium term. On the downside, though, break of 1.2773 support will dampen this view. Focus will be turned back to 1.2391 low and break will resume the fall from 1.4376 to 1.1946.

GBP/USD Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 1.3412; (P) 1.3533; (R1) 1.3616; More….

GBP/USD edged higher to 1.3651 but quickly retreated back into established range. Intraday bias stays neutral for more consolidations. In case of deeper fall, downside should be contained by 38.2% retracement of 1.2773 to 1.3651 at 1.3316 and bring rise resumption. Above 1.3651 will turn bias back to the upside for 1.3835 support turned resistance next. Break there will target 55 month EMA (now at 1.4405).

In the bigger picture, the strong break of 1.3444 key resistance now argues that the long term trend in GBP/USD has reversed. That is a key bottom was formed back in 1.1946 on bullish convergence condition in monthly MACD. Current rise from 1.1946 will target 38.2% retracement of 2.1161 (2007 high) to 1.1946 (2016 low) at 1.5466 next. In any case, medium term outlook will now stay bullish as long as 1.2773 support holds.

The consolidation from 1.2840 temporary low is still in progress and intraday bias remains neutral first. Outlook will stay bearish as long as 1.3030 resistance holds. We’re preferring the case that correction from 1.1946 is completed at 1.3267. Below 1.2840 will target 1.2588 key support to confirm our bearish view. Nonetheless, break of 1.3030 will dampen our view and turn bias back to the upside for retesting 1.3267.

In the bigger picture, overall, price actions from 1.1946 medium term low are seen as a corrective pattern. While further rise cannot be ruled out, larger outlook remains bearish as long as 1.3444 key resistance holds. Down trend from 1.7190 (2014 high) is expected to resume later after the correction completes. And break of 1.2588 will indicate that such down trend is resuming.

GBP/USD is still stuck in tight range inside 1.2376/2614 and intraday bias remains neutral at this point. Overall outlook is unchanged that price actions from 1.1946 are viewed as a consolidation pattern pattern. On the downside, break of 1.2376 will turn bias to the downside for 1.2108 support. Decisive break there will be an early sign of larger down trend resumption. On the upside, break of 1.2614 will extend the rise from 1.2108. But upside should be limited by 1.2705/2774 resistance zone to bring larger down trend resumption eventually.

In the bigger picture, fall from 1.7190 is seen as part of the down trend from 2.1161. There is no sign of medium term reversal yet. Sustained trading below 61.8% projection of 2.1161 to 1.3503 from 1.7190 at 1.2457 will target 100% projection at 0.9532. Overall, break of 1.3444 resistance is needed to confirm medium term bottoming. Otherwise, outlook will remain bearish.

GBP/USD’s rebound from 1.3026 extends to as high as 1.3323 so far. The break of 1.3291 resistance argues that pull back from 1.3651 is completed at 1.3026. Intraday bias is turned back to the upside for retesting 1.3651 high. Decisive break there will resume whole medium term rally from 1.1946 and target 1.3835 key resistance next. On the downside, below 1.3120 minor support will resume the fall from 1.3651 through 1.3026 instead.

In the bigger picture, while the medium term rebound from 1.1946 was strong, GBP/USD hit strong resistance from the long term falling trend line. Outlook is turned a bit mixed and we’ll turn neutral first. On the downside, decisive break of 1.2773 key support will argue that rebound from 1.1946 has completed. The corrective structure of rise from 1.1946 to 1.3651 will in turn suggest that long term down trend is now completed. Break of 1.1946 low should then be seen. On the upside, break of 1.3835 support turned resistance will revive the case of trend reversal and target 38.2% retracement of 2.1161 (2007 high) to 1.1946 (2016 low) at 1.5466 .

GBP/USD continues to lose upside momentum as seen in 4 hour MACD. But at this point, further rise is still expected with 1.2340 minor resistance holds. Above 1.2569 will target 1.2705/74 resistance zone. Price actions from 1.1946 are seen as a consolidation pattern. Hence, we’d expect strong resistance from 1.2705/2774 to limit upside and bring down trend resumption. On the downside, break of 1.2340 support will turn bias back to the downside for 1.2108 support.
