GBP/USD Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 1.2580; (P) 1.2612; (R1) 1.2666; More….

For now, further decline is expected in GBP/USD as long as 1.2747 resistance holds. Current fall from 1.3381 would target 1.2391 low first. Firm break there will resume larger down trend to 61.8% projection of 1.4376 to 1.2391 from 1.3381 at 1.2154 next. Though, break of 1.2747 resistance will confirm short term bottoming and bring stronger rebound.

In the bigger picture, medium term decline from 1.4376 (2018 high) is possibly ready to resume. Decisive break of 1.2391 would target a test on 1.1946 long term bottom (2016 low). For now, we don’t expect a firm break there yet. Hence focus will be on bottoming signal as it approaches 1.1946. In any case, medium term outlook will stay bearish as long as 1.3381 resistance holds, in case of strong rebound.

GBP/USD Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 1.3046; (P) 1.3081; (R1) 1.3118; More….

GBP/USD is still bounded in range of 1.3012/3217 and intraday bias remains neutral first. On the downside, break of 1.3012 minor support will suggest rejection by 1.3174 key resistance, and turn bias to the downside for 1.2814 support. On the upside, sustained break of 1.3174 key resistance will argue that whole decline from 1.4376 has completed at 1.2391. In such case, further rise should then be seen to 61.8% retracement of 1.4376 to 1.2391 at 1.3618.

In the bigger picture, rise from 1.1946 (2016 low) to 1.4376 (2018 high) is seen as a corrective move. Similarly, fall from 1.4376 to 1.2391 also displace a corrective structure. Current development suggests that rise from 1.2391 is the third leg of the corrective pattern from 1.1946 and could extend beyond 1.4376 high. Firm break of 61.8% retracement of 1.4376 to 1.2391 at 1.3618 will affirm this case. On the downside, break of 55 day EMA (now at 1.2865) will turn focus back to 1.2391 low instead.

GBP/USD Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 1.2870; (P) 1.2913; (R1) 1.2962; More

GBP/USD recovers today but it’s still staying in range of 1.2830/2987. Intraday bias remains neutral for the moment. With 1.2830 minor support intact, another rise cannot be ruled out. However, price actions from 1.1946 are viewed as a corrective pattern. Therefore, in case of another rise, we’d start to look for reversal signal again above 1.2987. Meanwhile, break of 1.2830 will indicate short term topping. In such case, intraday bias is turned back to the downside for 1.2614 resistance turned support first.

In the bigger picture, fall from 1.7190 is seen as part of the down trend from 2.1161. There is no sign of medium term reversal yet. Sustained trading below 61.8% projection of 2.1161 to 1.3503 from 1.7190 at 1.2457 will target 100% projection at 0.9532. Overall, break of 1.3444 resistance is needed to confirm medium term bottoming. Otherwise, outlook will remain bearish.

GBP/USD Weekly Outlook

GBP/USD’s fall from 1.2859 tied to continued last week but failed to sustain below 1.2633 resistance turned support. Still, further decline is expected as long as 1.2702 resistance holds. Sustained trading below 1.2633 resistance turned support will argue that whole rise from 1.2298 has completed, and target 1.2445 and below. On the upside, however, firm break of 1.2702 resistance will argue that pull back from 1.2859 has completed, and bring retest of this high instead.

In the bigger picture, price actions from 1.3141 medium term top are seen as a corrective pattern that is still in progress. Break of 1.2445 support will confirm that another falling leg has started and target 1.2036 cluster support again (38.2% retracement of 1.0351 (2022 low) to 1.3141 at 1.2075. Nevertheless, break of 1.2892 resistance will argue that larger up trend from 1.0351is ready to resume through 1.3141.

In the long term picture, a long term bottom should be in place at 1.0351 on bullish convergence condition in M MACD. But momentum of the rebound from 1.3051 argues GBP/USD is merely in consolidation, rather than trend reversal. Range trading is likely between 1.0351/4248 for some more time.

GBP/USD Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 1.3290; (P) 1.3336; (R1) 1.3363; More….

GBP/USD’s rebound was limited at 1.3382 and weakens sharply. Loss of momentum and break of 1.3278 minor support revive the case that price actions from 1.3026 are merely a correction. Intraday bias is turned back to the downside and sustained trading below 4 hour 55 EMA will pave the way to retest 1.3026 low. Above 1.3382 resistance will target 61.8% retracement of 1.3651 to 1.3026 at 1.3412 instead.

In the bigger picture, as noted before, GBP/USD hit strong resistance from the long term falling trend line. Nonetheless, subsequent fall was contained by 55 week EMA (now at 1.3069). Outlook is a bit mixed. For the moment, as long as 1.3835 support turned resistance holds, medium term rise from 1.1946 are viewed as a corrective pattern. That is, we’d expect another leg in the long term down trend through 1.1946 low. However, sustained break of 1.3835 should at least send GBP/USD to 38.2% retracement of 2.1161 (2007 high) to 1.1946 (2016 low) at 1.5466.

Intraday bias in GBP/USD remains mildly on the upside at this point. Current development suggests that corrective pull back from 1.3381 has completed at 1.2865. Also, with 1.2773 key support intact, near term bullishness is retained. Further rise should be seen back to retest 1.3381 first. Break will resume whole rebound from 1.2391. On the downside, though, break of 1.2865 will target 1.2773 key support.

In the bigger picture, medium term decline from 1.4376 (2018 high) halted after hitting 1.2391. The structure of the rebound from 1.2391 suggests that it’s a corrective move. In case of another rise, strong resistance could be seen around 61.8% retracement of 1.4376 to 1.2391 at 1.3618 to limit upside. On the downside, break of 1.2773 support will suggests that such corrective rise is completed and bring retest of 1.2391 low first.

Range trading continues in GBP/USD and intraday bias remains neutral. On the upside, decisive break of 1.2292 resistance will complete a head and shoulder bottom pattern (ls: 1.1932; h: 1.1769; rs: 1.2002). Further rally should then be seen to 1.2666 key resistance next. On the downside, however, break of 1.2002 will bring deeper fall back to retest 1.1759 low.

In the bigger picture, fall from 1.4248 (2018 high) could be a leg inside the pattern from 1.1409 (2020 low), or resuming the longer term down trend. Deeper decline is expected as long as 1.2666 resistance holds. Next target is 1.1409 low. However, firm break of 1.2666 will bring stronger rise back to 55 week EMA (now at 1.2925).

GBP/USD Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 1.4128; (P) 1.4155; (R1) 1.4199; More

Intraday bias in GBP/USD remains neutral for the moment and outlook is unchanged. With 1.4090 support intact, further rise is still expected. On the upside, sustained break of 1.4240 will resume larger up trend from 1.1409. Next target is 1.4376 long term resistance. On the downside, however, break of 1.4090 support will extend the consolidation from 1.4240 with another falling leg. Intraday bias will be turned back to the downside for 1.4008 resistance turned support first.

In the bigger picture, as long as 1.3482 resistance turned support holds, up trend from 1.1409 should still continue. Decisive break of 1.4376 resistance will carry larger bullish implications and target 38.2% retracement of 2.1161 (2007 high) to 1.1409 (2020 low) at 1.5134. However, firm break of 1.3482 support will argue that the rise from 1.1409 has completed and bring deeper fall to 1.2675 support and below.

GBP/USD Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 1.3302; (P) 1.3366; (R1) 1.3403; More….

GBP/USD dips mildly as consolidative trading from 1.3549 continues. Intraday bias remains neutral at this point. As long as 1.3220 support holds, we’d continue to favor another rise. On the upside, break of 1.3549 will target 1.3651 high next. However, firm break of 1.3220 will turn near term outlook bearish for 1.3038 key support level.

In the bigger picture, while the medium term rebound from 1.1946 low was strong, it’s limited below 1.3835 key support turned resistance. As long as 1.3835 holds, we’d view such rebound as a correction. That is, we’d expect another leg in the long term down trend through 1.1946 low. However, sustained break of 1.3835 should at least send GBP/USD to 38.2% retracement of 2.1161 (2007 high) to 1.1946 (2016 low) at 1.5466.

GBP/USD’s fall extends to as low as 1.3133 so far. Intraday bias remains on the downside for 61.8% retracement of 1.2773 to 1.3651 at 1.3108. Firm break there will target a test on 1.2773 key support it’s still early to call for trend reversal as it’s staying well inside medium term channel. But a break of the channel support (1.2942) will build up the chance of the bearish case. On the upside, above 1.3221 minor support will turn intraday bias neutral first.
