GBP/JPY Weekly Outlook

GBP/JPY rose to as high as 153.39 but formed a temporary top there and retreated. Initial bias is neutral this week. Prior break of 152.82 resistance suggests up trend resumption. Further rise is expected as long as 149.74 support holds. Break of 153.39 will target 61.8% projection of 139.29 to 152.82 from 146.96 at 155.32. However, break of 149.74 will dampen our bullish view and turn bias back to the downside for 146.96 key support instead.

In the bigger picture, current development suggests that medium term rise from 122.36 is resuming. Sustained trading above 38.2% retracement of 196.85 to 122.36 at 150.43 will carry long term bullish implications. In that case, GBP/JPY could target 61.8% retracement at 167.78. However, break of 146.96 support will indicate rejection from 150.43 key fibonacci level. And the three wave corrective structure of rebound from 122.36 will argue that larger down trend is resuming for a new low below 122.26.

In the longer term picture, current rebound argues that the down trend from 195.86 (2015 high) has already completed at 122.36. Focus is now on 55 month EMA (now at 154.89). Firm break there will suggest that rise form 122.36 is developing into a long term move that target 195.86 again. And, price actions from 116.83 (2011 low) is indeed a sideway pattern that could last more than a decade. However, firm break of 139.29 will suggests that the long term down trend is still in progress and could break 116.83 low ahead.

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains neutral for consolidation below 168.67 temporary top. Downside of retreat should be contained above 162.88 minor support to bring another rally. On the upside, above 168.67 will resume larger up trend to 100% projection of 150.95 to 168.40 from 155.57 at 173.02.

In the bigger picture, up trend from 123.94 (2020 low) is still in progress. Sustained break of 61.8% retracement of 195.86 (2015 high) to 122.75 (2016 low) at 167.93 will be a long term bullish signal, and could pave the way back to 195.86 high. This will now remain the favored case as long as 155.57 support holds, even in case of deep pull back.

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 132.84; (P) 133.73; (R1) 134.39; More…

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains neutral and outlook is unchanged. Another rise could still be seen, but upside should be limited by 61.8% retracement of 144.95 to 123.94 at 136.92 to bring fall resumption. On the downside, break of 129.85 minor support will bring retest of 123.94 low first. However, sustained break of 136.92 will raise the chance of trend reversal and turn focus to 144.95 resistance.

In the bigger picture, current development suggests that price actions from 122.75 (2016 low) are merely a sideway consolidation pattern, which has completed at 147.96. Larger down trend from 195.86 (2015 high) as well as that from 251.09 (2007 high) are possibly resuming. Break of 122.75 should target 61.8% projection of 195.86 to 122.75 from 147.95 at 102.76 next. In any case, outlook will remain bearish as long as 147.95 resistance holds.

GBP/JPY Weekly Outlook

GBP/JPY’s fall from 147.76 extended to as low as 139.77 last week. Initial bias remains on the downside this week for 138.65 support first. Break there will extend the decline to 135.58 key support level. At this point, price actions from 148.42 are seen as a sideway consolidation pattern. Hence, we’ll expect strong support from 135.58 to contain downside and bring rebound. Nonetheless, break of 143.18 resistance is needed to indicate short term bottoming first. Otherwise, near term outlook will remain bearish in case of recovery.

In the bigger picture, the sideway pattern from 148.42 is extending with another leg. We’d expect strong support from 135.58 and 50% retracement of 122.36 to 148.42 at 135.39 to contain downside. Medium term rise from 122.36 is still expected to resume later. And break of 38.2% retracement of 196.85 to 122.36 at 150.43 will carry long term bullish implications. However, firm break of 135.58/39 will dampen the bullish view and turn focus back to 122.36 low.

In the longer term picture, it remains to be confirmed if whole down trend from 195.86 has completed at 122.36 already and there is no confirmation yet. But in any case, firm break of 38.2% retracement of 195.86 to 122.36 at 150.43 would pave the way to 61.8% retracement at 167.78. And with that, the 55 month EMA will be firmly taken out which suggests that price actions from 116.83 is indeed a sideway pattern that could last more than a decade.

GBP/JPY Weekly Outlook

GBP/JPY’s sharp decline last week suggests rejection by 149.70 resistance. Initial bias remains on the downside this week for 142.76 support first. Sustained break there will bring retest of 139.39/47 key support zone. On the upside, above 145.59 support turned resistance could bring stronger rebound. But near tem outlook will be neutral at best as long as 149.70 key resistance holds.

In the bigger picture, as long as 139.29 cluster support (50% retracement of 122.36 to 156.59 at 139.47) holds, up trend from 122.36 (2016 low) would still extend beyond 156.69 high. However, decisive break of 139.29/47 will suggest that such up trend is completed and turn outlook bearish. In that case, next target is 61.8% retracement at 135.43.

In the longer term picture, as long as 139.29 holds, rise from 122.36 is in favor to extend to 50% retracement of 195.86 (2015 high) to 122.36 (2016 low) at 159.11, and possibly further to 61.8% retracement at 167.78 before completion. However, firm break of 139.29 will turn focus back to 116.83/122.36 support zone instead (116.83 as 2011 low).

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 191.70; (P) 192.27; (R1) 192.86; More..

Range trading continues in GBP/JPY and intraday bias stays neutral. On the upside, break of 193.51 will resume larger up trend to 195.86 long term resistance. Nevertheless, decisive break of 189.97 support will indicate that it’s at least correcting the rise from 178.32, and target 38.2% retracement of 178.32 to 193.51 at 187.70.

In the bigger picture, current rally is part of the up trend from 123.94 (2020 low), and is in progress for 195.86 long term resistance (2015 high). Break of 187.94 support is needed to be the first sign of medium term topping. Otherwise, outlook will remain bullish in case of retreat.

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 144.17; (P) 144.58; (R1) 145.16; More

A temporary low is in place in GBP/JPY at 144.01 and intraday bias is turned neutral first. On the downside below 144.01 will extend the decline from 147.76 and target 138.65 support and below. But we’d expect strong support from 135.58 to contain downside and bring rebound. On the upside, above 146.27 minor resistance will turn bias back to the upside for 147.76 instead.

In the bigger picture, rise from medium term bottom at 122.36 is expected to continue to 38.2% retracement of 196.85 to 122.36 at 150.43. Decisive break there will carry long term bullish implications and pave the way to 61.8% retracement at 167.78. In case the sideway pattern from 148.42 extends, we’d be looking for strong support from 135.58 and 50% retracement of 122.36 to 148.42 at 135.39 to contain downside.

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY stays mildly on the upside for 157.74/158.19 resistance zone Decisive break there will resume larger up trend. On the downside, break of 155.11 minor support will turn bias back to the downside, to extend the consolidation pattern from 158.19 with another falling leg.

In the bigger picture, price actions from 158.19 are seen as developing into a consolidation pattern to up trend from 123.94 (2020 low). Downside should be contained by 123.94 to 158.19 at 145.10 to bring rebound. Firm break of 158.19 will resume the up trend to long term fibonacci level at 167.93. However, sustained break of 145.10 will raise the chance of trend reversal and target 61.8% retracement at 137.02.

GBP/JPY is staying in consolidation from 141.50 and intraday bias remains neutral first. In case of deeper retreat, downside should be contained above 135.74 resistance turned support to bring another rally. On the upside, break of 141.50 will resume the rise from 126.54 to for 148.87 key resistance.

In the bigger picture, consolidation pattern from 122.75 (2016 low) is still in progress with rise from 126.54 as the third leg. Further rise should be seen back to 148.87/156.59 resistance zone. For now, we’d expect strong resistance from there to limit upside. And, this will remain the favored case as long as 130.42 support holds.

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 167.30; (P) 167.80; (R1) 168.44; More…

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY stays neutral for the moment. In the upside, break of 169.07 resistance will argue that larger up trend is ready to resume through 172.11 high. However, break of 166.08 minor support will turn bias back to the downside to extend the corrective pattern from 172.11 with another fall.

In the bigger picture, there is no clear sign of medium term topping yet. Up trend from 123.94 (2020 low) could still resume through 172.11 high at a later stage. However, firm break of 159.71 support will argue that it’s already in correction to the up trend from 123.94, and deeper decline would be seen back towards 148.93 support.

GBP/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 133.23; (P) 133.89; (R1) 135.00; More…

GBP/JPY’s rally accelerates to as high as 136.25 so far. Break of 135.74 resistance confirms resumption of whole rise from 123.94. Intraday bias stays on the upside for 61.8% projection of 123.94 to 135.74 from 129.27 at 136.56. Break there will target 100% projection at 141.07. On the downside, below 134.37 minor support will turn intraday bias neutral first.

In the bigger picture, overall, price actions from 122.75 (2016 low) are seen as a sideway consolidation pattern. Current development suggests that it might extend with another rising leg. But still, an eventual downside break out is expected as long as 147.95 resistance holds. Firm break of 122.75 will resume larger down trend from 195.86 (2015 high).

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 154.54; (P) 155.24; (R1) 155.62; More…

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY is turned neutral with current retreat. But further rally is expected with 153.81 support intact. Current up trend should target 156.59 long term resistance. Sustained break there will pave the way to 61.8% projection of 133.03 to 153.39 from 149.03 at 161.61. However firm break of 153.81 will indicate short term topping and turn bias back to the downside for deeper pull back.

In the bigger picture, rise from 123.94 is seen as the third leg of the pattern from 122.75 (2016 low). Focus is now on 156.59 resistance (2018 high). Sustained break there should confirm long term bullish trend reversal. Next target is 61.8% retracement of 195.86 (2015 high) to 122.75 at 167.93. On the downside, break of 149.03 support is needed to be the first sign of completion of the rise from 123.94. Otherwise, outlook will remain bullish even in case of deep pull back.

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 145.01; (P) 145.42; (R1) 146.05; More

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains neutral for the moment. On the upside, break of 147.76/148.42 key resistance zone will resume larger rebound from 122.36. On the downside, break of 144.01 will extend the sideway pattern from 148.20 with another fall back to 135.58/65 support zone.

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 148.57; (P) 149.15; (R1) 149.54; More…

GBP/JPY’s sharp fall and break of 148.16 minor support suggests that corrective recovery from 147.04 has completed at 149.99 already, ahead of 150.06 resistance as expected. Intraday bias is back on the downside for 147.04 first and then 144.97. Decisive break of 144.97 will resume the fall from 156.59 and target 100% projection of 156.59 to 144.97 from 153.84 at 142.22 next. In case of another rise, we’d continue to expect strong resistance below 150.60 support turned resistance to bring decline resumption.

In the bigger picture, for now, we’re treating price actions from 156.59 as a corrective move. Therefore, while deeper fall is expected, strong support should be seen above 139.29 cluster support (50% retracement of 122.36 to 156.59 at 139.47) to contain downside and bring rebound. There is still prospect of extending the rise from 122.36. However, considering that GBP/JPY failed to sustain above 55 month EMA (now at 153.94), firm break of 139.29 will confirm trend reversal and turn outlook bearish.

GBP/JPY Weekly Outlook

GBP/JPY’s rebound was limited at 150.29 last week and dropped notably. But it’s so far staying above 147.03 minor support. Initial bias remains neutral this week first. While another rise cannot be ruled out, we maintain the view that rebound from 144.97 is a corrective move. Therefore, strong resistance is expected from 150.92 (50% retracement of 156.59 to 144.97 at 150.78) to bring fall resumption. On the downside, below 147.03 will bring retest of 144.97 low first. Break will extend the decline from 156.59 to 143.51 medium term fibonacci level next. However, sustained break of 150.92 will pave the way back to retest 156.69 high.

In the bigger picture, the case for medium term reversal continues to build up. There is bearish divergence condition in daily MACD. 146.96 support was taken out. And GBP/JPY was rejected by 55 month EMA. Break of 38.2% retracement of 122.36 to 156.59 at 143.51 will pave the way to 61.8% retracement at 135.43 and below. This will now be the preferred case as long as 150.92 resistance holds.

In the longer term picture, rejection from 55 month EEMA (now at 154.27) argues that medium term rebound from 122.36 might be completed. And, the corrective structure also carries some bearish implication today. Sustained break of 135.58 key support will likely bring retest of 122.36 low, with prospect of resuming the long term down trend from 195.86 (2015 high).

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 131.79; (P) 132.57; (R1) 133.37; More…

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains on the downside for the moment. Corrective rebound from 126.54 should have completed with three waves up to 135.74, after failing to sustain above 38.2% retracement of 148.87 to 126.54 at 135.07. Deeper fall should be seen to retest 126.54 low. On the upside, break of 133.35 will turn intraday bias neutral first.

In the bigger picture, consolidation pattern from 122.75 (2016 low) is possibly still in progress. Strong rebound from 126.54 argues that it may be the third leg of the pattern. Further rise could be seen to 148.87/156.59 resistance zone before completion. On the downside, though, sustained break of 122.75 low will target 116.83 (2011 low).

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 156.34; (P) 157.20; (R1) 158.16; More…

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY stays on the upside at this point. Decisive break of 158.19 high will resume larger up trend from 123.94. On the downside, however, break of 155.11 minor support will turn bias back to the downside, to extend the consolidation pattern from 158.19 with another falling leg.

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 163.09; (P) 164.28; (R1) 164.93; More…

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains neutral for the moment. On the upside, break of 165.99 resume the whole rebound from 155.33 to 169.26 resistance next. On the downside, however, break of 162.95 minor support will mix up the outlook and turn intraday bias to the downside for 158.24 support instead.

In the bigger picture, as long as 38.2% retracement of 123.94 (2020 low) to 172.11 (2022 high) at 153.70 holds, medium term bullishness is retained. That is, larger up trend from 123.94 (2020 low) is still in progress. Break of 172.11 high to resume such up trend is expected at a later stage.

GBP/JPY Weekly Outlook

GBP/JPY edged lower to 136.55 last week but recovered since then. Initial bias remains neutral this week for some consolidations first. Stronger recovery cannot be ruled out. But upside should be limited by 38.2% retracement of 146.50 to 136.55 at 140.35 to bring fall resumption. On the downside, break of 136.55 will turn bias to the downside and extend the fall from 148.87 to 131.51 low.

In the bigger picture, current development suggests that GBP/JPY’s medium term fall from 156.59 (2018 high) is still in progress. Break of 131.51 will target 122.36 (2016 low). Structure of such decline is corrective looking so far, arguing that it’s just the second leg of consolidation from 122.36. Thus, we’d expect strong support from 122.36 to contain downside to bring reversal.

In the longer term picture, firstly, GBP/JPY’s is kept well below 55 week EMA, keeping outlook bearish. But we’re treating price actions from 122.36 as a corrective pattern. Hence, we’d expect range trading to continue longer. In case of an extension, strong resistance is likely to be seen at 50% retracement of 195.86 (2015 high) to 122.36 at 159.11 to limit upside. However, break of 122.26 will put 116.83 (2011 low) back into focus.

GBP/JPY Weekly Outlook

GBP/JPY’s rise from 163.02 lost momentum ahead of 169.07 minor resistance last week. Initial bias stays neutral this week first. On the upside, break of 169.07 resistance will argue that larger up trend is ready to resume through 172.11 high.

In the longer term picture, as long as 55 month EMA (now at 151.94) holds, rise from 122.75 could still extend higher at a later stage. Next target is 195.86 (2015 high).
