GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 148.87; (P) 149.28; (R1) 149.71; More…

GBP/JPY is still bounded in consolidation from 150.39 and intraday bias remains neutral first. Further rally is expected as long as 146.39 minor support holds. Break of 150.39 will target 100% projection of 123.94 to 142.71 from 133.03 at 151.80 next. However, firm break of 146.39 will confirm short term topping, and bring deeper pull back to 55 day EMA (now at 144.19).

In the bigger picture, rise from 123.94 is seen as the third leg of the sideway pattern from 122.75 (2016 low). With 147.95 resistance taken out, further rally would now be seen to 156.59 resistance (2018 high), Sustained break there should confirm long term bullish trend reversal. On the downside, break of 142.71 resistance turned support is needed to be the first sign of completion of the rise from 123.94. Otherwise, outlook will remain bullish even in case of deep pull back.

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 149.38; (P) 149.87; (R1) 150.69; More…

GBP/JPY’s recovery from 147.95 continues today but it’s staying below 151.19 resistance. Intraday bias remains neutral and deeper fall is still expected. Break of 147.95 will extend the fall from 156.69 and target 146.96 support next. Considering bearish divergence condition in daily MACD, firm break of 146.96 will be another sign of medium term trend reversal. On the upside, break of 151.19 will indicate short term bottoming and turn bias back to the upside for rebound.

In the bigger picture, the case for medium term reversal continues to build up on loss of medium term momentum as seen in 4 hour MACD. Also, firm break of 146.96 will indicate rejection by 55 month EMA and add to that case of reversal. In that case, deeper fall would be seen to 38.2% retracement of 122.36 to 156.59 at 143.51 and then 61.8% retracement at 135.43. Meanwhile, break of 156.59 will extend the rise from 122.36 to 61.8% retracement of 195.86 to 122.36 at 167.78.

GBP/JPY Weekly Outlook

GBP/JPY’s up trend resumed last week and surged to 193.51, but retreated notably since then. Initial bias remains neutral this week for more corrective trading. Nevertheless, outlook will stay bullish as long as 187.94 support holds. On the upside, break of 193.51 will resume larger up trend to 61.8% projection of 178.32 to 191.29 from 187.94 at 195.95, which is close to 195.86 long term resistance.

In the bigger picture, current rally is part of the up trend from 123.94 (2020 low), and is in progress for long term resistance (2015 high). Break of 187.94 support is needed to be the first sign of medium term topping. Otherwise, outlook will remain bullish in case of retreat.

In the longer term picture, rise from 122.75 (2016 low) is seen as the third leg of the pattern from 116.83 (2011 low). Further rally will remain in favor as long as 178.32 support holds. Break of 195.86 (2015 high) is possible. But strong resistance could be seen from 61.8% retracement of 251.09 (2007 high) to 116.83 at 199.80 to limit upside, at least on first attempt.

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 141.25; (P) 141.81; (R1) 142.89; More….

With 4 hours MACD crossed above signal line again, intraday bias is turned neutral again. As this point, we’ll continue to look for bottoming signal around 61.8% retracement of 135.58 to 148.09 at 140.35 to bring rebound. Break of 143.93 will indicate near term reversal and turn bias back to the upside. However, sustained break of 140.35 will bring deeper fall to 135.58 key support level.

In the bigger picture, rise from 122.36 medium term bottom is still expected to extend to of 195.86 to 122.36 at 150.42. And decisive break there could pave the way to 61.8% retracement at 167.78. However, as the cross is starting to lose upside momentum, rejection below 150.42 and break of 135.58 support will indicate reversal and bring deeper fall back to retest 122.36 instead.

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 141.45; (P) 142.09; (R1) 143.14; More…

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains neutral first. On the downside, break of 141.15 will extend the correction from 147.95 to 38.2% retracement of 126.54 to 147.95 at 139.77. On the upside, above 143.05 minor resistance will turn bias to the upside for retesting 147.95 high instead.

In the bigger picture, rise from 126.54 could either be the third leg of the consolidation pattern from 122.75 (2016 low), or the start of a new up trend. In either case, further rally is expected as long as 139.31 support holds, into 148.87/156.59 resistance zone. Reaction from there should reveal which case it should be in. Rejection from there will extend long term range trading. Decisive break of 156.69 will carry long term bullish implications.

GBP/JPY Weekly Outlook

GBP/JPY breached 138.53 support briefly last week but quickly recovered. It’s staying in range of 138.53 and outlook is unchanged. Price actions from 148.42 are viewed as a consolidation pattern.

GBP/JPY 4 Hours Chart

Initial bias stays neutral this week first. On the downside, break of 138.53 support will bring deeper decline to 136.44 support and possibly below. However, we’d expect strong support at 50% retracement of 122.36 to 148.42 at 135.39 to bring rebound. On the upside, above 142.79 will turn bias back to the upside for 144.77 and above.

GBP/JPY Daily Chart

In the bigger picture, price actions from 122.36 medium term bottom are still seen as a corrective pattern. Main focus is on 38.2% retracement of 195.86 to 122.36 at 150.42. Rejection from there will turn the cross into medium term sideway pattern with a test on 122.36 low next. Though, sustained break of 150.42 will extend the rebound towards 61.8% retracement at 167.78.

GBP/JPY Weekly Chart

In the longer term picture, while price actions from 122.36 would develop into a medium term correction, fall from 195.86 is still seen as resuming the down trend from 251.09 (2007 high). Hence, after the correction from 122.36 completes we’d expect another fall through 116.83 low.

GBP/JPY’s fall from 148.09 resumed after brief consolidation and reaches as low as 142.44 so far. Now that 61.8% retracement of 135.58 to 148.09 at 140.35 is broken and there is no clear sign of bottoming yet. Intraday bias stays on the downside for 135.58 key support next. On the upside, break of 142.75 resistance is needed to indicate completion of fall from 148.09. Otherwise, near term outlook will say mildly bearish in case of recovery.

Daily Pivots: (S1) 164.10; (P) 165.04; (R1) 166.05; More…

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY is turned neutral with current recovery, but further decline is still expected as long as 167.40 resistance intact. Decisive break of 163.02 will resume the whole fall from 172.11, and target 100% projection of 172.11 to 163.02 from 168.99 at 159.90.

In the bigger picture, medium term upside momentum has been diminishing as seen in bearish divergence condition in weekly MACD. Sustained break of 55 week EMA (now at 160.66) will argue that it’s already correcting whole up trend from 123.94 (2020 low). Nevertheless, before that, such up trend could still extend through 172.11 high.

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 156.68; (P) 157.19; (R1) 157.62; More…

GBP/JPY is staying in consolidation from 157.74 and intraday bias remains neutral first. Further rally is expected with 154.86 support intact. On the upside, decisive break of 158.19 high will resume larger up trend to 167.93 long term fibonacci level. On the downside, below 154.86 minor support will turn intraday bias back to the downside for deeper pull back.

In the bigger picture, strong rebound from 148.93 key structural support retains medium term bullishness. Firm break of 158.19 high will resume whole up trend from 123.94 (2020 low), to 61.8% retracement of 195.86 to 122.75 at 167.93. Nevertheless, firm break of 148.93 will bring deeper correction to 38.2% retracement of 123.94 to 158.19 at 145.10, and possibly further lower, as a correction to up trend from 123.94 at least.

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 189.82; (P) 190.26; (R1) 190.67; More…..

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY is back on the downside with break of 189.02 support. Price actions from 191.29 are seen as a correction to rise from 178.32 for now. Deeper fall would be seen to 38.2% retracement of 178.32 to 191.29 at 186.33. Sustained break there will raise the chance of larger reversal and target 61.8% retracement at 183.27. Risk will now stay on the downside as long as 191.29 resistance holds, in case of recovery.

In the bigger picture, up trend from 123.94 (2020 low) is in progress. Medium term outlook will stay bullish as long as 178.32 support holds. Next target is 195.86 long term resistance (2015 high).

GBP/JPY Weekly Outlook

GBP/JPY recovered last week but failed to sustain 4 hour 55 EMA and weakened again. Initial bias is neutral this week first. Break of 141.43 will extend the decline from 148.09. In such case, intraday bias is turned to the downside for 61.8% retracement of 135.58 to 148.09 at 140.35. At this point, we’d still expect rebound from 122.36 to resume later. Hence, we’d look for strong support below 140.35 to contain downside and bring rebound. On the upside, break of 143.93 will turn bias back to the upside for 148.09 resistance.

In the longer term picture, based on the impulsive structure of the decline from 195.86 to 122.36, such fall should not be completed yet. But we will now pay close attention to the structure of the rise from 122.36 to determine whether it’s a corrective move, or an impulsive move. That would decide whether a break of 116.83 low would be seen.

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY stays neutral for the moment. On the upside, above 161.51 will bring further rise to 55 day EMA (now at 162.32). Sustained trading above there will pave the way to retest 172.11 high. Nevertheless, on the downside, break of 155.33 will resume the whole decline from 172.11 to 153.70 fibonacci level.

In the bigger picture, as long as 163.02 support turned resistance holds, decline from 172.11 medium term top is expected to continue to 38.2% retracement of 123.94 to 172.11 at 153.70. Sustained break there will raise the change of trend reversal and target 61.8% retracement at 142.34. Nevertheless, break of 163.02 support turned resistance will argue that the decline has completed, and retain medium term bullishness.

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 141.58; (P) 142.02; (R1) 142.76; More…

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains on the upside at this point. Decisive break of 142.71 resistance will resume whole rise from 123.94 for 147.95 key resistance next. On the downside, though, considering bearish divergence condition in 4 hour MACD, break of 141.26 will confirm short term topping at 142.34, and rejection by 142.71. Intraday will will be turned back to the downside for 139.96 support next.

In the bigger picture, rise from 123.94 is seen as a rising leg of the sideway consolidation pattern from 122.75 (2016 low). As long as 147.95 resistance holds, an eventual downside breakout remains in favor. However, firm break of 147.95 will raise the chance of long term bullish reversal. Focus will then be turned to 156.59 resistance for confirmation.

In the bigger picture, rise from 123.94 is seen as the third leg of the pattern from 122.75 (2016 low). As long as 149.03 support holds, such rise would still resume at a later stage. However, sustained break of 149.03 support will indicate rejection by 156.59. Fall from 156.05 would be at least correcting the whole rise from 123.94. Deeper fall would be seen back 38.2% retracement of 123.94 to 156.05 at 143.78 first.

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

GBP/JPY failed to sustain above 152.82 resistance and formed a temporary top at 152.93 and retreated. Intraday bias stays neutral for the moment. As long as 146.96 support holds, near term outlook remains bullish. Break of 152.93 will resume medium term rally and target 61.8% projection of 139.29 to 152.82 from 146.96 at 155.32.

In the bigger picture, medium term rebound from 122.36 is still expected to resume after consolidation from 152.82 completes. Firm break of 38.2% retracement of 196.85 to 122.36 at 150.43 will carry long term bullish implications. In that case, GBP/JPY could target 61.8% retracement at 167.78. However, break of 46.96 support will indicate rejection from 150.43 key fibonacci level. And the three wave corrective structure of rebound from 122.36 will argue that larger down trend is resuming for a new low below 122.26.

In the bigger picture, as long as 139.29 cluster support (50% retracement of 122.36 to 156.59 at 139.47) holds, up trend from 122.36 (2016 low) would still extend beyond 156.69 high. Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains neutral for the moment with a temporary low in place at 136.44. Deeper decline is still expected with 142.16 support turned resistance intact. Whole corrective rise from 122.36 could have completed at 148.42. Below 136.44 will target 61.8% retracement of 122.36 to 148.42 at 132.31 and below. Though, above 142.16 will turn focus back to 148.42 high instead.

In the bigger picture, price actions from 122.36 medium term bottom are seen as developing into a corrective pattern. Upside is so far limited by 38.2% retracement of 195.86 to 122.36 at 150.4 for setting the medium term range. At this point, we don’t expect a break of 122.36 in near term and the corrective pattern would extend for a while.

Further decline is expected in GBP/JPY despite loss of downside momentum. Sustained trading below 55 D EMA (now at 182.49) will argue that it’s already in a larger scale correction and target 176.29 support next. On the upside, break of 184.39 resistance will argue that the pull back from 186.75 has completed. Intraday bias will be turned back to the upside for 185.76 resistance next.

In the bigger picture, as long as 176.29 support holds, larger up trend from 123.94 (202 low) should still be in progress. Break of 186.75 will target 195.86 (2015 high). Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains neutral first. On the upside, firm break of 165.26 minor resistance will argue that corrective pattern from 168.67 has completed. In the bigger picture, up trend from 123.94 (2020 low) is still in progress. Sustained break of 61.8% retracement of 195.86 (2015 high) to 122.75 (2016 low) at 167.93 will be a long term bullish signal, and could pave the way back to 195.86 high. This will now remain the favored case as long as 155.57 support holds, even in case of deep pull back.

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 151.02; (P) 151.16; (R1) 151.36; More…

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY is mildly on the upside as rebound from 149.16 is resuming. Further rise would be seen to 153.42 resistance first. Break there will argue that whole corrective pattern from 156.05 has completed, and bring retest of this high. On the downside, however, below 150.03 minor support will turn bias back to the downside for 149.16 support and below.
