At this point, intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains mildly on the downside for 146.92 support and below. Fall from 151.92 is seen as the third leg of the corrective pattern from 152.82. We’d expect strong support from 61.8% retracement of 139.29 to 152.82 at 144.45 to contain downside and bring rebound. On the upside, break of 149.98 resistance will turn bias back to the upside for 151.92/152.82 resistance zone instead.

In the bigger picture, medium term rebound from 122.36 is still expected to resume after corrective pull back from 152.82 completes. Firm break of 38.2% retracement of 196.85 to 122.36 at 150.43 will carry long term bullish implications. In that case, GBP/JPY could target 61.8% retracement at 167.78. However, break of 139.29 will indicate rejection from 150.43 key fibonacci level. And the three wave corrective structure of rebound from 122.36 will argue that larger down trend is resuming for a new low below 122.26.

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains neutral for the moment. On the upside, break of 137.83 will extend the rebound from 133.03. Intraday bias will be turned back to the upside for retesting 142.71 high. On the downside, break of 135.05 will argue that decline from 142.71 is resuming. intraday bias will be turned back to the downside for 133.03, and then 61.8% retracement of 123.94 to 142.71 at 131.11.

In the bigger picture, rise from 123.94 is seen only as a rising leg of the sideway consolidation pattern from 122.75 (2016 low). As long as 147.95 resistance holds, an eventual downside breakout remains in favor. However, firm break of 147.95 will raise the chance of long term bullish reversal. Focus will then be turned to 156.59 resistance for confirmation.

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains mildly on the downside at this point. Rebound from 139.88 should have completed at 145.67. Deeper fall would be seen to retest 139.88 low first. Break will target 139.29/47 key support zone. On the upside, above 144.20 minor resistance will turn bias back to the upside for 145.67 and possibly above.

In the bigger picture, at this point decline from 156.59 is still seen as a corrective move. Focus remains on 139.29 cluster support (50% retracement of 122.36 to 156.59 at 139.47). Strong rebound from there will re-affirm the bullish case that rise from 122.36 is still to extend through 156.59 high. However, sustained break of 139.29/47 should confirm medium term reversal. GBP/JPY would then target a retest on 122.26 (2016 low).

GBP/JPY’s rally extends to as high as 147.86 so far and intraday bias remains on the upside for 148.20 resistance. As noted before, whole rally should 122.36 is resuming. Break of 148.20 will target 150.42 long term fibonacci level first. Break there will pave the way to 100% projection of 122.36 to 148.42 from 135.58 at 161.64. On the downside, below 145.64 minor support will turn bias neutral and bring consolidation before staging another rise.

In the bigger picture, based on current momentum, rise from 122.36 bottom should be developing into a medium term move. Break of 38.2% retracement of 195.86 to 122.36 at 150.42 should pave the way to 61.8% retracement at 167.78. This will now be the favored case as long as 135.58 support holds.

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains neutral for the moment as it’s bounded in choppy trading inside range of 138.53/142.79. Price actions from 148.42 are viewed as a consolidation pattern. On the downside, break of 138.53 support will bring deeper decline to 136.44 support and possibly below. However, we’d expect strong support at 50% retracement of 122.36 to 148.42 at 135.39 to bring rebound. On the upside, above 142.79 will turn bias back to the upside for 144.77 and above.

In the bigger picture, price actions from 122.36 medium term bottom are still seen as a corrective pattern. Main focus is on 38.2% retracement of 195.86 to 122.36 at 150.42. Rejection from there will turn the cross into medium term sideway pattern with a test on 122.36 low next. Though, sustained break of 150.42 will extend the rebound towards 61.8% retracement at 167.78.

GBP/JPY’s decline from 149.48 extends to low as 142.83 so far. Intraday bias remains on the downside and break of 142.76 will pave the way to 139.29/47 key support zone. On the upside, break of 145.51 resistance is needed to indicate short term bottoming. Otherwise, outlook will remain cautiously bearish even in case of recovery.

In the bigger picture, as long as 139.29 cluster support (50% retracement of 122.36 to 156.59 at 139.47) holds, up trend from 122.36 (2016 low) would still extend beyond 156.69 high. However, decisive break of 139.29/47 will suggest that such up trend is completed and turn outlook bearish. In that case, next target is 61.8% retracement at 135.43.

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY is turned neutral again with current retreat. On the upside, above 169.26 will bring retest of 172.11 high. However, break of 167.09 will suggest that the corrective pattern from 172.11 is extending. Bias will be back on the downside for 164.02 support and possibly below.

In the bigger picture, medium term upside momentum has been diminishing as seen in bearish divergence condition in weekly MACD. Sustained break of 55 week EMA (now at 160.90) will argue that it’s already correcting whole up trend from 123.94 (2020 low). Nevertheless, before that, such up trend could still extend through 172.11 high.

GBP/JPY Weekly Outlook

GBP/JPY stayed familiar range last week and outlook is unchanged. Initial bias stays neutral this week first. On the downside, below 152.59 will likely extend the corrective pattern from 156.05 through 151.28 support. In this case, we’d expect strong support from 38.2% retracement of 136.96 to 156.05 at 148.75 to bring rebound. On the upside, above 155.13 will target a test on 156.05 high instead.

In the bigger picture, rise from 123.94 is seen as the third leg of the pattern from 122.75 (2016 low). Focus is now on 156.59 resistance (2018 high). Sustained break there should confirm long term bullish trend reversal. Next target is 61.8% retracement of 195.86 (2015 high) to 122.75 at 167.93. On the downside, break of 149.03 support is needed to be the first sign of completion of the rise from 123.94. Otherwise, outlook will remain bullish even in case of deep pull back.

In the longer term picture, the strong break of 55 months EMA was an early sign of long term bullish reversal. Firm break of 156.69 resistance should now confirm the start of an up trend for 195.86 (2015 high).

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY stays neutral and further fall is in favor with 165.26 minor resistance intact. On the downside, below 160.37 support will target 155.57 key support level next. On the upside, above 165.26 minor resistance will turn bias back to the upside and bring retest of 168.67 high instead.

In the bigger picture, up trend from 123.94 (2020 low) is still in progress. Sustained break of 61.8% retracement of 195.86 (2015 high) to 122.75 (2016 low) at 167.93 will be a long term bullish signal, and could pave the way back to 195.86 high. This will now remain the favored case as long as 155.57 support holds, even in case of deep pull back.

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 141.23; (P) 141.65; (R1) 142.13; More

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains neutral for the moment. On the upside, firm break of 142.16 will indicate completion of the fall from 148.42. More importantly, this will suggest that such decline is merely a three wave correction and the rise from 122.36 isn’t completed. In such case, intraday bias will be turned to the upside for 148.42 and then 150.42 fibonacci level. Meanwhile, below 136.44 will target 61.8% retracement of 122.36 to 148.42 at 132.31 and below.

In the bigger picture, price actions from 122.36 medium term bottom are seen as developing into a corrective pattern. Upside is so far limited below 38.2% retracement of 195.86 to 122.36 at 150.42 for setting the medium term range. At this point, we don’t expect a break of 122.36 in near term and the corrective pattern would extend for a while. Though, sustained break of 150.42 will target 61.8% retracement at 167.78.

GBP/JPY’s decline resumed after brief consolidation the break of 131.51 low indicates resumption of larger down decline from 156.69. Intraday bias is back on the downside. Further fall should be seen to 122.36 low next. On the upside, above 132.99 minor resistance will turn intraday bias neutral first. But recovery should be limited by 135.66 resistance to bring fall resumption.

In the bigger picture, medium term fall from 156.59 (2018 high) is still in progress. Break of 131.51 will target 122.36 (2016 low). Structure of such decline is corrective looking so far, arguing that it’s just the second leg of consolidation from 122.36. Thus, we’d expect strong support from 122.36 to contain downside to bring reversal.

With 140.31 intact, further rise is in favor. Firm break of 142.23/71 resistance zone will resume whole rise from 123.94 to 147.95 key resistance next. On the downside, through, considering bearish divergence condition in 4 hour MACD, break of 140.31 will confirm short term topping at 142.34, and rejection by 142.71. Intraday will will be turned back to the downside for 139.96 support next.

In the bigger picture, rise from 123.94 is seen as a rising leg of the sideway consolidation pattern from 122.75 (2016 low). As long as 147.95 resistance holds, an eventual downside breakout remains in favor. However, firm break of 147.95 will raise the chance of long term bullish reversal. In the bigger picture, the strong rebound from 131.51 suggests that medium term fall from 156.59 (2018 high) has completed already. The corrective structure of such decline in turn argues that it’s the second leg of the corrective pattern from 122.36 (2016 low). And this pattern is starting the third leg. On the upside, decisive break of 149.48 will pave the way to 156.59 resistance and above.

In the bigger picture, price actions from 122.75 (2016 low) are merely a sideway consolidation pattern, which has completed at 147.96. Larger down trend from 195.86 (2015 high) as well as that from 251.09 (2007 high) are possibly resuming. Break of 122.75 should target 61.8% projection of 195.86 to 122.75 from 147.95 at 102.76 next. In any case, outlook will remain bearish as long as 147.95 resistance holds.

Break of 153.39 will resume the medium term up trend and target 61.8% projection of 139.29 to 152.82 from 146.96 at 155.32. However, break of 149.74 will dampen our bullish view and turn bias back to the downside for 146.96 key support instead.

In the bigger picture, current development suggests that medium term rise from 122.36 is resuming. Sustained trading above 38.2% retracement of 196.85 to 122.36 at 150.43 will carry long term bullish implications. In that case, GBP/JPY could target 61.8% retracement at 167.78. However, break of 146.96 support will indicate rejection from 150.43 key fibonacci level. On the upside, above 149.30 will bring turn bias to the upside for 149.99 resistance.

In the bigger picture, no change in the view that decline from 156.59 is a corrective move. In case of another fall, strong support should be seen above 139.29 cluster support (50% retracement of 122.36 to 156.59 at 139.47) to contain downside and bring rebound. Below 146.34 minor support will suggest that the recovery has completed. Intraday bias will then be turned back to the downside for 144.97 first. Break will extend the decline from 156.59 to 143.51 medium term fibonacci level next.

In the bigger picture, the case for medium term reversal continues to build up. There is bearish divergence condition in daily MACD. 146.96 support was taken out.
