GBP/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 139.45; (P) 140.59; (R1) 141.52; More…

GBP/JPY’s fall resumed by breaking 139.54 temporary low to as low as 139.31 so far. Intraday bias is back on the downside. Current fall from 148.87 should target 61.8% retracement of 131.51 to 148.87 at 138.14 next. Sustained break there will pave the way to retest 131.51 low. On the upside, above 141.73 resistance would indicate short term bottoming, possibly on bullish convergence condition in 4 hour MACD. Stronger rebound would then be seen.

In the bigger picture, current development suggests that GBP/JPY was rejected by 149.98 key resistance. And medium term fall from 156.59 is still in progress. Break of 131.51 will target 122.36 (2016 low). On the other hand, decisive break of 149.98 should confirm that medium term fall from 156.59 (2018 high) has completed at 131.51 already. Further rally would be seen back to 156.59 resistance and above.

GBP/JPY Weekly Outlook

GBP/JPY’s up trend resumed last week and edged higher to 201.59, but retreated notably since then. Initial bias is turned neutral this week first. Further rally is expected as long as 197.18 support holds. However, considering bearish divergence condition in 4 H MACD, firm break of 197.18 will confirm short term topping, and turn bias back to the downside for 191.34 support instead.

In the bigger picture, as long as 188.63 resistance turned support holds, long term up trend is expected to continue. Next target is 100% projection of 155.33 to 188.63 from 178.32 at 211.62.

In the longer term picture, rise from 122.75 (2016 low) is seen as the third leg of the pattern from 116.83 (2011 low). Focus is now on 61.8% retracement of 251.09 (2007 high) to 116.83 at 199.80. Decisive break there would pave the way back to 251.09 in the long term.

GBP/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 139.21; (P) 140.86; (R1) 142.22; More….

GBP/JPY’s fall continues today and reaches as low as 139.08 so far. Intraday bias stays on the downside for 135.58 support. As it’s also close to 135.39 fibonacci level, we’d look for bottoming signal around there to bring rebound. However, break of 142.75 resistance is needed to indicate completion of fall from 148.09. Otherwise, near term outlook will say mildly bearish in case of recovery.

In the bigger picture, while the fall from 148.09 is deeper than expected, we’re not bearish in the cross yet. Price action from 148.42 is possibly developing into a sideway pattern with fall from 148.09 as the third leg. Deeper decline could be seen but we’re looking for strong support from 135.58 and 50% retracement of 122.36 to 148.42 at 135.39 to contain downside. Rise from 122.36 is still mildly in favor to resume at a later stage. However, sustained break of 135.58/39 will confirm reversal and target a retest on 122.36 low.

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 143.11; (P) 143.61; (R1) 143.88; More…

With 142.16 minor support intact, further rise is expected in GBP/JPY, despite some loss of upside momentum. Current rally from 123.94 should target 61.8% projection of 123.94 to 142.71 from 133.03 at 144.62 first. Break will target 147.95 medium term structural resistance. On the downside, below 142.16 minor support will turn intraday bias to the downside for pull back towards channel support (now at 138.99).

In the bigger picture, rise of 123.94 is still as the third leg of the sideway pattern from 122.75 (2016 low). Break of 147.95 will target 156.59 resistance (2018 high). On the downside, break of 133.03 support is needed to confirm completion of the rise from 123.94. Otherwise, further rise will remain in favor even in case of pull back.

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 162.47; (P) 163.30; (R1) 164.23; More…

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains neutral first. On the upside, firm break of 165.26 minor resistance will argue that corrective pattern from 168.67 has completed. Further rise should be seen to retest 168.67 high next. On the downside, break of 160.37 will bring deeper fall back towards 155.57 support.

In the bigger picture, up trend from 123.94 (2020 low) is still in progress. Sustained break of 61.8% retracement of 195.86 (2015 high) to 122.75 (2016 low) at 167.93 will be a long term bullish signal, and could pave the way back to 195.86 high. This will now remain the favored case as long as 155.57 support holds, even in case of deep pull back.

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 135.64; (P) 136.05; (R1) 136.55; More…

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains neutral at this point. Further fall will remain mildly in favor as long as 138.38 minor resistance holds. Sustained break of 38.2% retracement of 123.94 to 142.71 at 135.53 will suggest that whole rebound from 123.94 has completed. Deeper fall could then be seen to 61.8% retracement at 131.11 next. Though, strong rebound from current level, followed by break of 138.38 minor resistance, will turn bias back to the upside for retesting 142.71 instead.

In the bigger picture, rise from 123.94 is still seen as a rising leg of the sideway consolidation pattern from 122.75 (2016 low). As long as 147.95 resistance holds, an eventual downside breakout remains in favor. However, firm break of 147.95 will raise the chance of long term bullish reversal. Focus will then be turned to 156.59 resistance for confirmation.

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 148.45; (P) 149.14; (R1) 150.32; More

GBP/JPY’s rebound from 146.92 extends higher today. Break of 149.73 support turned resistance suggests that pull back from 152.82 has completed at 146.92 already. Intraday bias is turned back to the upside for retesting 152.82 first. Firm break there will resume whole medium term rise from 122.36. On the downside, break of 148.13 minor support will turn bias to the downside and extend the correction from 152.82. In that, we’d expect strong support from 61.8% retracement of 139.29 to 152.82 at 144.45 to bring rebound.

In the bigger picture, medium term rebound from 122.36 is still expected to resume after corrective pull back from 152.82 completes. Firm break of 38.2% retracement of 196.85 to 122.36 at 150.43 will carry long term bullish implications. In that case, GBP/JPY could target 61.8% retracement at 167.78. However, break of 139.29 will indicate rejection from 150.43 key fibonacci level. And the three wave corrective structure of rebound from 122.36 will argue that larger down trend is resuming for a new low below 122.26.

GBP/JPY 4 Hours Chart

GBP/JPY Daily Chart

GBP/JPY Weekly Outlook

GBP/JPY rebounded further to 145.67 last week but formed a temporary top and retreated. Initial bias stays neutral this week first. As long as 142.81 minor support holds, another rise is mildly in favor. Above 145.67 will target trend line resistance (now at 146.99). Firm break there will be a signal of bullish reversal and should target 149.30 resistance for confirmation. However, break of 142.81 will argue that the rebound from 139.88 has completed and turn bias back to the downside for 139.29/47 key support zone.

In the bigger picture, at this point decline from 156.59 is still seen as a corrective move. Focus remains on 139.29 cluster support (50% retracement of 122.36 to 156.59 at 139.47). Strong rebound from there will re-affirm the bullish case that rise from 122.36 is still to extend through 156.59 high. However, sustained break of 139.29/47 should confirm medium term reversal. GBP/JPY would then target a retest on 122.26 (2016 low).

In the longer term picture, the failure to sustain above 55 month EMA (now at 152.97) is mixing up the outlook. Nonetheless, as long as 139.29 holds, rise from 122.36 is in favor to extend to 50% retracement of 195.86 (2015high) to 122.36 (2016 low) at 159.11, and possibly further to 61.8% retracement at 167.78 before completion. However, firm break of 139.29 will turn focus back to 116.83/122.36 support zone instead.

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 132.58; (P) 133.55; (R1) 134.54; More…

GBP/JPY is staying in corrective rebound from 123.94 and outlook remains unchanged. Upside should be limited by 61.8% retracement of 144.95 to 123.94 at 136.92 to bring fall resumption. On the downside, break of 129.85 minor support will turn bias to the downside for retesting 123.94 low. However, sustained break of 136.92 will raise the chance of trend reversal and turn focus to 144.95 resistance.

In the bigger picture, current development suggests that price actions from 122.75 (2016 low) are merely a sideway consolidation pattern, which has completed at 147.96. Larger down trend from 195.86 (2015 high) as well as that from 251.09 (2007 high) are possibly resuming. Break of 122.75 should target 61.8% projection of 195.86 to 122.75 from 147.95 at 102.76 next. In any case, outlook will remain bearish as long as 147.95 resistance holds.

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains on the upside with focus on 158.19 resistance. Decisive break there will confirm resumption of whole up trend from 123.94. Next target is 61.8% projection of 136.96 to 158.19 from 150.95 at 164.07. On the downside, below 156.32 minor support will delay the bullish case and turn intraday bias neutral first.

In the bigger picture, up trend from 123.94 (2020 low) should still be in progress, and notable support from 55 week EMA affirms medium term bullishness. Next target is 61.8% retracement of 195.86 to 122.75 at 167.93. This will now remain the favored case as long as 148.94 support holds.

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 148.57; (P) 150.66; (R1) 152.42; More…

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains on the downside for the moment. Current fall from 156.59 short term top should target 146.96 support. Considering bearish divergence condition in daily MACD, firm break of 146.96 will be another sign of medium term trend reversal. On the upside, break of 154.03 resistance is needed to confirm completion of the fall. Otherwise, outlook will remain cautiously bearish even in case of recovery.

In the bigger picture, as long as 146.96 key support holds, medium term outlook remains bullish. Rise from 122.36 is in favor to extend to 61.8% retracement of 195.86 to 122.36 at 167.78. However, break of 146.96 support will indicate trend reversal after rejection by 55 month EMA. In that case, deeper fall would be seen to 38.2% retracement of 122.36 to 156.59 at 143.51 and then 61.8% retracement at 135.43.

GBP/JPY is staying in the corrective move from 144.97 and intraday bias remains neutral. Further rise might be seen. But upside should be limited by 150.92 (50% retracement of 156.59 to 144.97 at 150.78 to bring fall resumption. Break of 144.97 will extend the decline from 156.59 to 143.51 medium term fibonacci level next.

In the bigger picture, the case for medium term reversal continues to build up. There is bearish divergence condition in daily MACD. 146.96 support was taken out. And GBP/JPY was rejected by 55 month EMA. Break of 38.2% retracement of 122.36 to 156.59 at 143.51 will pave the way to 61.8% retracement at 135.43 and below. This will now be the preferred case as long as 150.92 resistance holds.

GBP/JPY’s break of 137.88 temporary suggests rally resumption. Intraday bias is back on the upside. Rise from 126.54 should target 61.8% retracement of 148.84 to 126.54 at 140.33. Firm break there will pave the way to 148.87 resistance next. On the downside, break of 136.44 minor support will turn intraday bias neutral again and bring consolidations before staging another rally.

In the bigger picture, consolidation pattern from 122.75 (2016 low) is still in progress with rise from 126.54 as the third leg. Further rise should be seen back to 148.87/156.59 resistance zone. For now, we’d expect strong resistance from there to limit upside. And, this will remain the favored case as long as 130.42 support holds.

GBP/JPY’s fall resumed by taking out 130.64 temporary low. Intraday bias is back on the downside. as noted before, corrective rebound from 123.94 should have completed. Deeper fall should be seen to retest 123.94 low. On the upside, break of 133.18 minor resistance will turn bias to the upside for 61.8% retracement of 144.95 to 123.94 at 136.92.

In the bigger picture, price actions from 122.75 (2016 low) are merely a sideway consolidation pattern, which has completed at 147.96. GBP/JPY’s steep decline and strong break of 206.12 support suggest that a short term top is formed at 208.09, on bearish divergence condition in 4H MACD. While deeper decline cannot be ruled out, downside should be contained by 38.2% retracement of 191.34 to 208.09 at 201.69 to bring rebound, and set the range of consolidations below 208.09.

In the bigger picture, long term up trend is still in progress. Next target is 100% projection of 155.33 to 188.63 from 178.32 at 211.62. Outlook will stay bullish as long as 200.72 resistance turned support holds, even in case of deep pullback.

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains neutral at this point, with focus on 143.72 key support. On the downside, decisive break of 143.72 will indicate near term reversal, after rejection by 149.48 key resistance. In that case, intraday bias will be turned to the downside for 141.00 support first. Meanwhile, rebound from current level will retain bullishness. Decisive break of 149.48 key resistance will carry larger bullish in implications and target 156.58 resistance next.

In the bigger picture, focus is staying on 149.98 key resistance. Decisive break there should confirm that medium term fall from 156.59 (2018 high) has completed at 131.51 already. Rise from 131.51 is then seen as the third leg of the corrective pattern from 122.36 (2016 low). GBP/JPY should then target 156.59 and above. However, rejection by 149.98 will retain medium term bearishness and could extend the fall from 156.59 through 131.51 to 122.36.

GBP/JPY’s break of 154.85 support argues that rebound from 148.94 has completed at 157.74, ahead of 158.19 high. Fall from 157.74 is seen as the third leg of the consolidative pattern from 158.19. Intraday bias is back on the downside. Sustained break of 55 day EMA (now at 154.11) will target 148.94 support next. For now, risk will stay on the downside as long as 157.74 resistance holds, in case of recovery.

In the bigger picture, strong rebound from 148.93 key structural support retains medium term bullishness. Nevertheless, firm break of 148.93 will bring deeper correction to 38.2% retracement of 123.94 to 158.19 at 145.10, and possibly further lower, as a correction to up trend from 123.94 at least.

GBP/JPY’s rebound from 191.34 resumed after brief recovery and intraday bias is back on the upside. Rise from 191.34 is seen as the second leg of the corrective pattern from 200.53. Sustained break of 197.07 will pave the way to retest 200.53. On the downside, firm break of 195.02 will argue that the third leg has started, and target 191.34 support and possibly below.

In the bigger picture, a medium term top could be in place at 200.53 after breaching 199.80 long term fibonacci level. As long as 55 W EMA (now at 183.41) holds, fall from there is seen as correcting the rise from 178.32 only. However, sustained break of 55 W EMA will argue that larger scale correction is underway and target 178.32 support.
