GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 163.67; (P) 165.48; (R1) 168.63; More…

GBP/JPY’s rise from 148.93 resumed by breaking through 165.69 resistance. Intraday bias is back on the upside for 169.10 high. Decisive break there will confirm larger up trend resumption. For now, further rally will remain in favor as long as 159.71 support holds, in case of retreat.

In the bigger picture, strong support from 38.2% retracement of 123.94 to 169.10 at 151.84 suggests that price actions from 169.10 are developing into a corrective pattern only. That is, rise from 123.94 (2020 low) should resume at a later stage. This will now remain the favored case as long as 148.93 support holds.

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains neutral and outlook is unchanged. On the downside, break of 155.11 resistance should confirm rejection by 158.19 resistance. Intraday bias will be turned to the downside for 152.88 support, to extend the corrective pattern from 158.19 with another falling leg. However, on the upside, sustained break of 158.19 will resume larger up trend.

In the bigger picture, price actions from 158.19 are seen as developing into a consolidation pattern to up trend from 123.94 (2020 low). Downside should be contained by 123.94 to 158.19 at 145.10 to bring rebound. Firm break of 158.19 will resume the up trend to long term fibonacci level at 167.93. However, sustained break of 145.10 will raise the chance of trend reversal and target 61.8% retracement at 137.02.

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains on the downside. Fall from 144.60 should target 140.83 support first. Break will extend the correction from 147.95 to 38.2% retracement of 126.54 to 147.95 at 139.77. For now, risk will stay on the downside as long as 144.60 resistance holds, in case of recovery.

In the bigger picture, rise from 126.54 could either be the third leg of the consolidation pattern from 122.75 (2016 low), or the start of a new up trend. In either case, further rally is expected as long as 139.31 support holds, into 148.87/156.59 resistance zone. Reaction from there should reveal which case it should be in. However, sustained break of 139.31 support will dampen this case and turn medium term outlook neutral first.

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains neutral as range trading continues. On the downside, break of 145.99 should confirm completion of rebound from 142.76. And in that case, deeper fall should be seen back to 142.76 and possibly below. On the upside, decisive break of 149.70 will resume whole rise from 139.88 and target 153.84/156.59 resistance zone.

In the bigger picture, as long as 139.29 cluster support (50% retracement of 122.36 to 156.59 at 139.47) holds, up trend from 122.36 (2016 low) would still extend beyond 156.69 high. However, decisive break of 139.29/47 will suggest that such up trend is completed and turn outlook bearish. In that case, next target is 61.8% retracement at 135.43.

GBP/JPY Weekly Outlook

GBP/JPY edged lower to 137.51 last week but recovered. The development argues that choppy fall from 142.79 is completed already. Further rise is in favor in near term. Meanwhile, there is no change in the overall view that price actions from 148.42 are forming a consolidation pattern.

GBP/JPY 4 Hours Chart

Initial bias in GBP/JPY is mildly on the upside this week. Break of 140.60 resistance should confirm near term reversal and target 142.79 resistance first. Break there will send the cross through 144.77 resistance to 148.42 high. On the downside, below 137.51 minor support will extend the fall from 142.79 towards 136.44 support. But still, we’d expect support from 50% retracement of 122.36 to 148.42 at 135.39 to contain downside and bring rebound.

GBP/JPY Daily Chart

In the bigger picture, price actions from 122.36 medium term bottom are still seen as a corrective pattern. Main focus is on 38.2% retracement of 195.86 to 122.36 at 150.42. Rejection from there will turn the cross into medium term sideway pattern. Or, sustained break of 50% retracement of 122.36 to 148.42 at 135.39 will turn outlook bearish for a test on 122.36 low. Though, sustained break of 150.42 will extend the rebound towards 61.8% retracement of 195.86 to 122.36 at 167.78.

GBP/JPY Weekly Chart

In the longer term picture, while price actions from 122.36 would develop into a medium term correction, fall from 195.86 is still seen as resuming the down trend from 251.09 (2007 high). Hence, after the correction from 122.36 completes we’d expect another fall through 116.83 low.

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY stays on the upside despite some loss of upside momentum. Firm break of 61.8% projection of 148.93 to 165.69 from 159.71 at 170.06 will target 100% projection at 176.47. On the downside, below 165.00 minor support will turn Intraday bias neutral and bring consolidations first, before staging another rally.

In the bigger picture, current development suggests that up trend from 123.94 (2020 low) is still in progress. Sustained break of 61.8% retracement of 195.86 (2015 high) to 122.75 (2016 low) at 167.93 will pave the way to retest 195.86 high. This will now remain the favored case as long as 148.93 support holds.

GBP/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 133.23; (P) 133.89; (R1) 135.00; More…

GBP/JPY’s rally accelerates to as high as 136.25 so far. Break of 135.74 resistance confirms resumption of whole rise from 123.94. Intraday bias stays on the upside for 61.8% projection of 123.94 to 135.74 from 129.27 at 136.56. Break there will target 100% projection at 141.07. On the downside, below 134.37 minor support will turn intraday bias neutral first.

In the bigger picture, overall, price actions from 122.75 (2016 low) are seen as a sideway consolidation pattern. Current development suggests that it might extend with another rising leg. But still, an eventual downside break out is expected as long as 147.95 resistance holds. Firm break of 122.75 will resume larger down trend from 195.86 (2015 high).

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

GBP/JPY is staying in consolidation from 142.71 and intraday bias remains neutral first. Near term outlook stays bullish as long as 138.24 support holds and further rise is expected. On the upside, break of 142.71 will target 161.8% projection of 123.94 to 135.74 from 129.27 at 148.36.

In the bigger picture, rise from 123.94 is still seen as a rising leg of the sideway consolidation pattern from 122.75 (2016 low). As long as 147.95 resistance holds, an eventual downside breakout remains in favor. However, firm break of 147.95 will raise the chance of long term bullish reversal. Focus will then be turned to 156.59 resistance for confirmation.

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 139.17; (P) 139.66; (R1) 140.13; More….

GBP/JPY rises to as high as 141.88 so far today. The strong break of 140.08 resistance should affirm our bullish view. That is, consolidation pattern from 148.42 has completed with three waves down to 135.58, after hitting 135.39 fibonacci level. Intraday bias is back on the upside and current rise should extend to 144.77 resistance next. On the downside, break of 139.19 support is needed to indicate short term topping. Otherwise, outlook will remain bullish in case of retreat.

In the bigger picture, price actions from 122.36 medium term bottom are still seen as a corrective pattern. As long as 50% retracement of 122.36 to 148.42 at 135.39 holds, another rising leg would be seen to 38.2% retracement of 195.86 to 122.36 at 150.42 and possibly above. However, firm break of 135.39 will bring retest of 122.36, with prospect of resuming the larger down trend from 195.86.

GBP/JPY Weekly Outlook

GBP/JPY’s rise from 126.54 accelerated to as high as 147.95 last week and took out medium term trend line resistance decisively. As a temporary top was formed after subsequent retreat. Initial bias is neutral this week for some consolidations first. Downside should be contained above 142.47 support to bring rise resumption. On the upside, above 147.95 will target 148.87 structural resistance next.

Rejection from there will extend long term range trading. Decisive break of 156.69 will carry long term bullish implications.

In the longer term picture, in spite of the current strong rally, there is no confirmation of long term bullish reversal yet. Focus is now on 156.59 key resistance. As long as it holds, another decline through 122.75 could still be seen. But firm break of 156.69 should at least bring further rally to 61.8% retracement of 195.86 to 122.75 at 167.93.

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains neutral at this point. Consolidation from 153.39 could extend further. But outlook will stay bullish as long as 148.50 support holds. On the upside, break of 153.39 will resume the whole rise from 123.94 to 156.59 long term resistance next.

In the bigger picture, rise from 123.94 is seen as the third leg of the pattern from 122.75 (2016 low). Next target is 156.59 resistance (2018 high). Sustained break there should confirm long term bullish trend reversal. On the downside, break of 142.71 resistance turned support is needed to be the first sign of completion of the rise from 123.94. Otherwise, outlook will remain bullish even in case of deep pull back.

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY is turned neutral with current retreat. Deeper pull back cannot be ruled out, but outlook will stay bullish as long as 167.82 support holds. Break of 174.66 will resume larger up trend to 100% projection of 148.93 to 172.11 from 155.33 at 178.51.

In the bigger picture, up trend from 123.94 (2020 low) is extending. Next target will be 161.8% projection of 122.75 (2016 low) to 156.59 (2018 high) from 123.94 at 178.69. For now, medium term outlook will remain bullish as long as 165.99 resistance turned support holds, even in case of deep pull back.

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY is turned neutral with a temporary low formed at 140.23. Some consolidations would be seen but deeper decline remains in favor as long as 143.48 minor resistance holds. Below 140.23 will extend the down trend from 156.59 to 139.29/47 key support level. We’ll pay attention to bottoming signal around there.

In the bigger picture, at this point decline from 156.59 is still seen as a corrective move. But the current downside accelerate makes this view shaky. Focus will be on 139.29 cluster support (50% retracement of 122.36 to 156.59 at 139.47). Strong rebound from there will re-affirm the bullish case that rise from 122.36 is still to extend through 156.59 high. However, sustained break of 139.29/47 should confirm medium term reversal. GBP/JPY would then target a retest on 122.26 (2016 low).

GBP/JPY Weekly Outlook

GBP/JPY’s up trend continued last week and outlook is unchanged. Initial bias stays on the upside this week. Next target is 100% projection of 148.93 to 172.11 from 155.33 at 178.51. Nevertheless, break of 171.26 minor support will delay the bullish case, and turn bias to the downside for deeper retreat.

In the bigger picture, up trend from 123.94 (2020 low) is extending. Next target will be 161.8% projection of 122.75 (2016 low) to 156.59 (2018 high) from 123.94 at 178.69. For now, medium term outlook will remain bullish as long as 155.33 support holds, even in case of deep pull back.

In the longer term picture, as long as 55 M EMA (now at 154.52) holds, rise from 122.75 (2016 low) could still extend higher at a later stage to 195.86 (2015 high).

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains neutral for the moment. On the upside, break of 140.31 will resume the rebound from 133.03 for retesting 142.71 resistance next. On the downside, break of 137.19 minor support will turn bias back to the downside for 134.40 support instead.

In the bigger picture, rise from 123.94 is seen as a rising leg of the sideway consolidation pattern from 122.75 (2016 low). As long as 147.95 resistance holds, an eventual downside breakout remains in favor. However, firm break of 147.95 will raise the chance of long term bullish reversal. Focus will then be turned to 156.59 resistance for confirmation.

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains on the downside at this point. The break of 55 day EMA dampened our original bullish view. Deeper fall could now be seen back to 148.93 structural support level. On the upside, break of 154.63 minor resistance will revive near term bullishness and turn bias back to the upside for 158.19 high.

In the bigger picture, rise from 123.94 is seen as the third leg of the pattern from 122.75 (2016 low). The stay above 55 week EMA affirms medium term bullishness. Current rise should now target 61.8% retracement 195.86 (2015 high) to 122.75 at 167.93 next. In any case, outlook will remain bullish as long as 148.93 structural support hold, even in case of deep pull back.

GBP/JPY Weekly Outlook

GBP/JPY’s fall from 148.09 extended to as low as 139.52 last week and broke 61.8% retracement of 135.58 to 148.09 at 140.35. The cross is kept well below falling 4 hour 55 EMA and inside near term falling channel. Initial bias stays on the downside this week and current fall would target 135.58 support. We’ll look for bottoming sign again around there. On the upside, break of 142.75 resistance is needed to indicate completion of fall from 148.09. Otherwise, near term outlook will say mildly bearish in case of recovery.

In the bigger picture, while the fall from 148.09 is deeper than expected, we’re not bearish in the cross yet. Price action from 148.42 is possibly developing into a sideway pattern with fall from 148.09 as the third leg. Deeper decline could be seen but we’re looking for strong support from 135.58 and 50% retracement of 122.36 to 148.42 at 135.39 to contain downside. Rise from 122.36 is still mildly in favor to resume at a later stage. However, sustained break of 135.58/39 will confirm reversal and target a retest on 122.36 low.

In the longer term picture, based on the impulsive structure of the decline from 195.86 to 122.36, such fall should not be completed yet. But we will now pay close attention to the structure of the rise from 122.36 to determine whether it’s a corrective move, or an impulsive move. That would decide whether a break of 116.83 low would be seen.

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains neutral as consolidation from 152.88 is extending. Fall from 157.74 should be the third leg of the corrective pattern from 158.19. Deeper decline is expected as long as 155.38 minor resistance holds. Below 152.88 will target 148.94 support next. On the upside, above 155.38 minor resistance will flip bias back to the upside for 157.74/158.19 resistance zone instead.

In the bigger picture, price actions from 158.19 are currently seen as developing into a consolidation pattern to up trend from 123.94 (2020 low). No change in GBP/JPY’s outlook. Intraday bias stays neutral as consolidations from 193.51 could extend further. On the upside, firm break of 193.51 will resume larger up trend to 195.86 long term resistance. Nevertheless, decisive break of 190.02 will indicate that it’s at least correcting the rise from 178.32, and target 38.2% retracement of 178.32 to 193.51 at 187.70.

In the bigger picture, current rally is part of the up trend from 123.94 (2020 low), and is in progress for 195.86 long term resistance (2015 high). Break of 187.94 support is needed to be the first sign of medium term topping. Otherwise, outlook will remain bullish in case of retreat.

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains neutral first and another fall is expected with 155.16 resistance intact. Break of 152.63 will resume the fall from 158.04 to 148.94 support.
