GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 137.81; (P) 138.60; (R1) 139.17; More

GBP/JPY dips through 137.75 temporary low and intraday bias is turned back to the downside. Choppy decline from 144.77 would target 136.44 support and below. But we’d expect support from 50% retracement of 122.36 to 148.42 at 135.39 to contain downside and bring rebound. On the upside, break of 139.39 minor resistance will turn bias to the upside and send GBP/JPY through 142.79 resistance. Overall, price actions from 148.42 are forming a consolidation pattern.

In the bigger picture, price actions from 122.36 medium term bottom are still seen as a corrective pattern. Main focus is on 38.2% retracement of 195.86 to 122.36 at 150.42. Rejection from there will turn the cross into medium term sideway pattern. Or, sustained break of 50% retracement of 122.36 to 148.42 at 135.39 will turn outlook bearish for a test on 122.36 low. Though, sustained break of 150.42 will extend the rebound towards 61.8% retracement of 195.86 to 122.36 at 167.78.

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains neutral for the moment. Outlook remains unchanged too. On the upside, above 152.38 will reaffirm the case that correction from 153.39 has already completed, and bring retest of this high next. However, break of 149.03 will bring deeper fall to extend the correction from 153.39.

In the bigger picture, rise from 123.94 is seen as the third leg of the pattern from 122.75 (2016 low). Next target is 156.59 resistance (2018 high). Sustained break there should confirm long term bullish trend reversal. On the downside, break of 142.71 resistance turned support is needed to be the first sign of completion of the rise from 123.94. Otherwise, outlook will remain bullish even in case of deep pull back.

GBP/JPY breached 138.53 support briefly but quickly recovered. As it’s staying in range of 138.53/142.79, intraday bias remains neutral first. Price actions from 148.42 are seen as a corrective pattern. Break of 138.53 support will bring deeper decline to 136.44 support and possibly below. However, we’d expect strong support at 50% retracement of 122.36 to 148.42 at 135.39 to bring rebound. On the upside, above 142.79 will turn bias back to the upside for 144.77 and above.

In the bigger picture, price actions from 122.36 medium term bottom are still seen as a corrective pattern. Main focus is on 38.2% retracement of 195.86 to 122.36 at 150.42. Rejection from there will turn the cross into medium term sideway pattern with a test on 122.36 low next. Though, sustained break of 150.42 will extend the rebound towards 61.8% retracement at 167.78.

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY is turned neutral as it recovered ahead of 148.94 support. On the downside, firm break of 148.94 will resume larger fall from 158.19 to 145.10 medium term fibonacci level next. For now, outlook will stay bearish as long as 152.60 resistance holds, in case of stronger recovery.

In the bigger picture, strong rebound from 148.93 key structural support will retain medium term bullishness. Firm break of 158.19 high will resume whole up trend from 123.94 (2020 low). Nevertheless, firm break of 148.93 will bring deeper correction to 38.2% retracement of 123.94 to 158.19 at 145.10, and possibly further lower, as a correction to up trend from 123.94 at least

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains on the downside for 125.58 support. We’d look for bottoming signal around there to bring rebound. Nonetheless, break of 142.75 resistance is needed to indicate completion of fall from 148.09. Otherwise, near term outlook will say mildly bearish in case of recovery.

In the bigger picture, while the fall from 148.09 is deeper than expected, we’re not bearish in the cross yet. Price action from 148.42 is possibly developing into a sideway pattern with fall from 148.09 as the third leg. Deeper decline could be seen but we’re looking for strong support from 135.58 and 50% retracement of 122.36 to 148.42 at 135.39 to contain downside. Rise from 122.36 is still mildly in favor to resume at a later stage. However, sustained break of 135.58/39 will confirm reversal and target a retest on 122.36 low.

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 135.20; (P) 135.56; (R1) 135.94; More…

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains on the downside at this point. Recent fall from 148.87 has just resumed and further fall should be seen to 131.51 low next. On the upside, break of 137.78 resistance is needed to indicate short term bottoming. Otherwise, outlook will remain bearish in case of recovery.

In the bigger picture, current development suggests that GBP/JPY’s medium term fall from 156.59 (2018 high) is still in progress. Break of 131.51 will target 122.36 (2016 low). Structure of such decline is corrective looking so far, arguing that it’s just the second leg of consolidation from 122.36. Thus, we’d expect strong support from 122.36 to contain downside to bring reversal.

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 158.29; (P) 159.10; (R1) 160.32; More…

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY stays neutral and outlook is unchanged. Risk will stay on the downside as long as 162.16 minor resistance holds, as correction from 168.40 could extend. On the downside, below 155.57 will target 150.95 key structural support next. Nevertheless, firm break of 162.16 will indicate that the correction has completed, and bring retest of 168.40 high next.

In the bigger picture, up trend from 123.94 (2020 low) is still in progress. Sustained break of 61.8% retracement of 195.86 (2015 high) to 122.75 (2016 low) at 167.93 will be a long term bullish signal, and could pave the way back to 195.86 high. This will now remain the favored case as long as 150.95 support holds, even in case of deep pull back. However, firm break of 150.95 will indicate rejection by 167.93, and bearish trend reversal.

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 148.71; (P) 149.06; (R1) 149.32; More…

GBP/JPY’s corrective rise from 144.97 might still extend. But we’d expect strong resistance from limit upside and bring fall resumption. On the downside, below 147.65 minor support will bring retest of 144.97 low first. However, sustained break of 150.92 will indicate near term reversal and pave the way back to retest 156.69 high.

In the bigger picture, the case for medium term reversal continues to build up. There is bearish divergence condition in daily MACD. 146.96 support was taken out. And GBP/JPY was rejected by 55 month EMA. Break of 38.2% retracement of 122.36 to 156.59 at 143.51 will pave the way to 61.8% retracement at 135.43 and below. This will now be the preferred case as long as 150.92 resistance holds.

GBP/JPY Weekly Outlook

GBP/JPY continued to gyrate in range of 143./72/148.87 last week and outlook is unchanged. Initial bias remains neutral for more consolidation first. Further rise remains in favor as long as 143.72 support holds. Decisive break of 149.48 key resistance will carry larger bullish in implications and target 156.58 resistance next. However, on the downside, sustained break of 143.72 will indicate near term reversal, after rejection by 149.48 key resistance. In that case, intraday bias will be turned to the downside for 141.00 support first.

In the bigger picture, focus is staying on 149.98 key resistance. Decisive break there should confirm that medium term fall from 156.59 (2018 high) has completed at 131.51 already. Rise from 131.51 is then seen as the third leg of the corrective pattern from 122.36 (2016 low). GBP/JPY should then target 156.59 and above. However, rejection by 149.98 will retain medium term bearishness and could extend the fall from 156.59 through 131.51 to 122.36.

In the longer term picture, the rise from 122.36 (2016 low) to 156.59 (2018 high) doesn’t display a clear impulsive structure. Thus, we’re treating price actions from 122.36 as a corrective pattern. In case of an extension, strong resistance is likely to be seen at 50% retracement of 195.86 (2015 high) to 122.36 at 159.11 to limit upside. On the downside, break of 131.51 support will bring 122.26 low back into focus.

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains neutral for the moment. On the downside, break of 197.28 will strengthen the case that rise from 191.34 has completed. Intraday bias will be back on the downside for 195.02 support first. However, decisive break of 200.72 will resume larger uptrend instead.

In the bigger picture, as long as 188.63 resistance turned support holds, long term up trend is expected to continue. Sustained trading above 200.53 will pave the way to 100% projection of 155.33 to 188.63 from 178.32 at 211.62.

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains neutral and outlook is unchanged. Further decline is expected as long as 162.24. Break of 158.57 will target 161.8% projection of 172.11 to 163.02 from 169.26 at 154.55 next. However, break of 162.24 will turn bias to the upside for stronger rebound.

In the bigger picture, sustained break of 55 week EMA (now at 161.26) will confirm medium term topping at 172.11, on bearish divergence condition in weekly MACD. Fall from 172.11 should be correcting whole up trend from 123.94 (2020 low). Deeper decline should be seen to 38.2% retracement of 123.94 to 172.11 at 153.70 and possibly below. This will now remain the favored case as long as 55 day EMA (now at 166.11) holds.

GBP/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 130.60; (P) 131.21; (R1) 131.77; More…

GBP/JPY’s rebound and break of 132.24 resistance suggests that pull back from 135.74 is completed. And rise from 126.54 is possibly not over yet. Intraday bias is turned back to the upside for 135.74 first. On the downside, break of 130.42 will resume the fall to retest 126.54 low.

In the bigger picture, consolidation pattern from 122.75 (2016 low) is possibly still in progress. Strong rebound from 126.54 argues that it may be the third leg of the pattern. Further rise could be seen to 148.87/156.59 resistance zone before completion. On the downside, though, sustained break of 122.75 low will target 116.83 (2011 low).

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains neutral at this point, for consolidations below 190.05. Break 190.05 will resume larger up trend. However, break of 187.83 will turn bias to the downside for deeper correction back to 185.21 support instead.

In the bigger picture, up trend from 123.94 (2020 low) in in progress. Medium term outlook will stay bullish as long as 178.32 support holds. Next target is 195.86 long term resistance (2015 high).

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 147.05; (P) 147.65; (R1) 148.31; More…

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains on the upside at this point. Current rally from 131.51 should target 149.48 resistance next. Decisive break there will pave the way to 156.95 key resistance next. On the downside, below 146.98 minor support will turn intraday bias neutral for consolidation first. In case of deeper pull back, downside should be contained by 141.00/144.84 support zone to bring rally resumption.

In the bigger picture, the strong rebound from 131.51 suggests that medium term fall from 156.59 (2018 high) has completed already. The corrective structure of such decline in turn argues that it’s the second leg of the corrective pattern from 122.36 (2016 low). And this pattern is starting the third leg. On the upside, decisive break of 149.48 will pave the way to 156.59 resistance and above.

GBP/JPY Weekly Outlook

GBP/JPY rebounded further to 165.69 last week but retreated since then. Initial bias remains neutral this week first. While further rise could be seen, strong resistance might be seen from 169.10 high to limit upside, at least on first attempt. On the downside, below 159.41 minor support will turn bias back to the downside for 148.93 again. However, firm break of 169.10 will confirm resumption of larger up trend.

In the bigger picture, strong support from 38.2% retracement of 123.94 to 169.10 at 151.84 suggests that price actions from 169.10 are developing into a corrective pattern only. That is, rise from 123.94 (2020 low) should resume at a later stage. This will now remain the favored case as long as 148.93 support holds.

In the longer term picture, as long as 55 month EMA (now at 151.00) holds, rise from 122.75 could still extend higher at a later stage. However, sustained break of 55 month EMA will ague that whole rise has completed, and open up deeper fall back to 116.83/122.75 support zone.

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 144.17; (P) 144.58; (R1) 145.16; More

A temporary low is in place in GBP/JPY at 144.01 and intraday bias is turned neutral first. On the downside below 144.01 will extend the decline from 147.76 and target 138.65 support and below. But we’d expect strong support from 135.58 to contain downside and bring rebound. On the upside, above 146.27 minor resistance will turn bias back to the upside for 147.76 instead.

In the bigger picture, rise from medium term bottom at 122.36 is expected to continue to 38.2% retracement of 196.85 to 122.36 at 150.43. Decisive break there will carry long term bullish implications and pave the way to 61.8% retracement at 167.78. In case the sideway pattern from 148.42 extends, we’d be looking for strong support from 135.58 and 50% retracement of 122.36 to 148.42 at 135.39 to contain downside.

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains neutral at this point. Further rally will remain in favor as long as 134.12 support holds. On the upside, break of 136.62 will resume the rebound from 131.68 to 139.73 high. Nevertheless, firm break of 134.12 will suggest completion of the rebound from 131.68. Intraday bias will be turned back to the downside for this support.

In the bigger picture, we’re seeing price actions from 122.75 (2016 low) as a sideway consolidation pattern. As long as 147.95 resistance holds, an eventual downside breakout remains in favor. However, firm break of 147.95 will raise the chance of long term bullish reversal. Focus will then be turned to 156.59 resistance for confirmation.

Also, firm break of 146.96 will indicate rejection by 55 month EMA (now at 154.60) and add to that case of reversal. In that case, deeper fall would be seen to 38.2% retracement of 122.36 to 156.59 at 143.51 and then 61.8% retracement at 135.43. Meanwhile, break of 156.59 will extend the rise from 122.36 to 61.8% retracement of 195.86 to 122.36 at 167.78.

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY is mildly on the upside with break of 164.63 minor resistance. Further rise could be seen to retest 168.67 high. On the downside, below 161.56 will target 159.97 support. Sustained break of 61.8% retracement of 195.86 (2015 high) to 122.75 (2016 low) at 167.93 will be a long term bullish signal, and could pave the way back to 195.86 high. GBP/JPY is staying in consolidation above 180.78 temporary low and intraday bias remains neutral. With 183.34 resistance intact, further decline is expected. On the downside, break of 180.78 will resume the fall from 186.75 to 176.29 support next.

In the bigger picture, fall from 186.75 is currently seen as a corrective move only. As long as 176.29 support holds, larger up trend from 123.94 (202 low) should still be in progress. Break of 186.75 will target 195.86 (2015 high). Nevertheless, firm break of 176.29 will confirm medium term topping, and bring lengthier and deeper consolidations.
