GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 141.15; (P) 142.40; (R1) 143.57; More…

GBP/JPY recovers today but with 142.97 minor resistance intact, intraday bias stays on the downside for 139.29/47 key support zone. On the upside, above 142.97 minor resistance will turn bias neutral and bring consolidation first, before staging another decline.

In the bigger picture, as long as 139.29 cluster support (50% retracement of 122.36 to 156.59 at 139.47) holds, up trend from 122.36 (2016 low) could still extend beyond 156.69 high. However, decisive break of 139.29/47 will suggest that such up trend is completed and turn outlook bearish. In that case, next target is 61.8% retracement at 135.43.

GBP/JPY is still staying in range of 140.62/144.84 and intraday bias remains neutral first. Rebound from 131.51 could still extend higher. But we’d expect strong resistance from trend line (now at 146.64) to limit upside, at least on first attempt. On the downside, firm break of 140.62 will suggest completion of the rebound and turn bias to the downside.

In the bigger picture, the strong rebound from 131.51 suggests that medium term fall from 156.59 (2018 high) has completed already. The corrective structure of such decline is turn argues that it’s the second leg of the corrective pattern from 122.36 (2016 low). And this pattern is starting the third leg. On the upside, decisive break of 149.38 will pave the way to 156.59 resistance and above.

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 161.39; (P) 162.13; (R1) 162.57; More…

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains neutral for the momentum and another rise is in favor. On the upside, break of 163.73 would resume the rebound from 155.33 to 169.26/172.11 resistance zone. However, break of 160.44 minor support will dampen this case and bring retest of 155.33 low instead.

In the bigger picture, corrective decline from 172.11 medium term should have completed at 155.33. With 38.2% retracement of 123.94 to 172.11 at 153.70 intact, medium term bullishness is retained. That is, larger up trend from 123.94 (2020 low) is still in progress. Break of 172.11 high to resume such up trend is expected at a later stage.

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 133.98; (P) 134.50; (R1) 135.30; More…

GBP/JPY’s corrective rebound from 123.94 is still in progress and further rise could be seen. But upside should be limited by 61.8% retracement of 144.95 to 123.94 at 136.92 to bring fall resumption. On the downside, break of 132.40 minor support will turn bias to the downside for retesting 123.94 low. However, sustained break of 136.92 will raise the chance of trend reversal and turn focus to 144.95 resistance.

In the bigger picture, current development suggests that price actions from 122.75 (2016 low) are merely a sideway consolidation pattern, which has completed at 147.96. Larger down trend from 195.86 (2015 high) as well as that from 251.09 (2007 high) are possibly resuming. Break of 122.75 should target 61.8% projection of 195.86 to 122.75 from 147.95 at 102.76 next. In any case, outlook will remain bearish as long as 147.95 resistance holds.

GBP/JPY’s decline from 148.20 accelerated by breaking the channel line decisively. 38.2% retracement of 122.36 to 148.42 at 138.46 was also taken out firmly. The development suggests that whole corrective rise from 122.36 has completed at 148.42. Intraday bias stays on the downside for 61.8% retracement at 132.31 and below. On the upside, break of 142.16 support turned resistance is needed to indicate completion of such decline. Otherwise, outlook will stay bearish in case of recovery.

In the bigger picture, price actions from 122.36 medium term bottom are seen as developing into a corrective pattern. Upside is so far limited by 38.2% retracement of 195.86 to 122.36 at 150.4 for setting the medium term range. At this point, we don’t expect a break of 122.36 in near term and the corrective pattern would extend for a while.

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY stays neutral for consolidation above 203.82 temporary low. Corrective fall from 208.09 short term top could still extend lower. Break of 203.82 would target 38.2% retracement of 191.34 to 208.09 at 201.69. Strong support is expected there to bring rebound. On the upside, above 206.35 minor resistance will turn intraday bias will turn bias back to the upside for retesting 208.09. However, sustained break of 201.69 will argue that larger correction is already underway.

In the bigger picture, long term up trend is still in progress. Next target is 100% projection of 155.33 to 188.63 from 178.32 at 211.62. Outlook will stay bullish as long as 200.72 resistance turned support holds, even in case of deep pullback.

GBP/JPY’s decline from 149.48 extends lower today but it’s staying above 146.28 minor support. Intraday bias stays neutral first and another rise is mildly in favor. On the upside, decisive break of 149.70 will resume whole rise from 139.88 and target 153.84/156.59 resistance zone. On the downside, below 146.28 minor support will turn bias back to the downside for 142.76 instead.

In the bigger picture, as long as 139.29 cluster support (50% retracement of 122.36 to 156.59 at 139.47) holds, up trend from 122.36 (2016 low) would still extend beyond 156.69 high. However, decisive break of 139.29/47 will suggest that such up trend is completed and turn outlook bearish. In that case, next target is 61.8% retracement at 135.43.

No change in GBP/JPY’s outlook and rise from 149.16 is in favor to extend higher as long as 150.43 support holds. Next target is 153.42 resistance. Firm break there will argue that whole corrective pattern from 156.05 has completed, and bring retest of this high. On the downside, however, below 150.43 minor support will turn bias back to the downside for 149.16 support and below.

In the bigger picture, rise from 123.94 is seen as the third leg of the pattern from 122.75 (2016 low). As long as 149.03 support holds, such rise would still resume at a later stage. However, sustained break of 149.03 support will indicate rejection by 156.59. Fall from 156.05 would be at least correcting the whole rise from 123.94. Deeper fall would be seen back 38.2% retracement of 123.94 to 156.05 at 143.78 first.

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 138.51; (P) 139.28; (R1) 139.95; More…

GBP/JPY’s rebound from 131.51 extends today and focus remains on 139.88 resistance. Sustained trading above 139.88 will dampen our bearish view and bring stronger rise to 143.93 resistance next. Nevertheless, reversal from current level, followed by 137.35 support will confirm completion of rebound from 131.51. Intraday bias will be turned back to the downside for retesting 131.51 low.

In the bigger picture, corrective medium term rise from 122.36 (2016 low) has completed at 156.69 already. That came after failing to break through 55 month EMA. Fall from 156.59 (2018 high) is seen as resuming the long term down trend from 195.86 (2015 high). Below 131.51 will target 122.36 low first. And this will now remain the preferred case as long as 139.88 support turned resistance holds. Sustained break of 139.88 will mix up the outlook and we’ll reassess on the final structure of the rebound from 131.51.

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 144.89; (P) 145.81; (R1) 146.35; More…

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains on the downside for the moment. Current fall from 153.84 is in progress for 144.97 support. Decisive break there will resume the decline from 156.69 too and target 100% projection of 156.59 to 144.97 from 153.84 at 142.22 next. On the upside, above 146.71 minor resistance will turn intraday bias neutral and bring consolidation. But near term outlook will remain bearish as long as 149.99 resistance holds.

In the bigger picture, for now, we’re treating price actions from 156.59 as a corrective move. Therefore, while deeper fall is expected, strong support should be seen above 139.29 cluster support (50% retracement of 122.36 to 156.59 at 139.47) to contain downside and bring rebound. There is still prospect of extending the rise from 122.36. However, considering that GBP/JPY failed to sustain above 55 month EMA (now at 153.94), firm break of 139.29 will confirm trend reversal and turn outlook bearish.

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 134.62; (P) 135.28; (R1) 135.92; More…

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains neutral at this point. As long as 137.83 resistance holds, further decline is in favor. Below 134.40 will target 133.03 support first. Break there will resume larger fall from 142.71 to 61.8% retracement of 123.94 to 142.71 at 131.11.

In the bigger picture, rise from 123.94 is seen only as a rising leg of the sideway consolidation pattern from 122.75 (2016 low). As long as 147.95 resistance holds, an eventual downside breakout remains in favor. However, firm break of 147.95 will raise the chance of long term bullish reversal. Focus will then be turned to 156.59 resistance for confirmation.

GBP/JPY Weekly Outlook

GBP/JPY’s break of 151.14 support last week suggests that rebound from 148.43 has completed. Initial bias stays on the downside this week for 148.43 support first. Decisive break there will carry larger bearish implication and target 143.78 fibonacci level next. On the upside, above 151.38 minor resistance will turn bias back to the upside for 153.42 resistance instead.

In the longer term picture, the strong break of 55 months EMA was an early sign of long term bullish reversal. Firm break of 156.69 resistance should now confirm the start of an up trend for 195.86 (2015 high). However, rejection by 156.69 will invalidate the bullish signal and keep long term outlook neutral first.

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains neutral for the moment. Near term outlook stays bearish as long as 143.18 resistance holds and deeper decline is in favor. Below 139.29 will target 135.58 key support level. At this point, price actions from 148.42 are seen as a sideway consolidation pattern. Hence, we’ll expect strong support from 135.58 to contain downside and bring rebound. Meanwhile, break of 143.18 will indicate short term reversal and turn bias back to the upside.

In the bigger picture, the sideway pattern from 148.42 is extending with another leg. We’d expect strong support from 135.58 and 50% retracement of 122.36 to 148.42 at 135.39 to contain downside. Medium term rise from 122.36 is still expected to resume later. And break of 38.2% retracement of 196.85 to 122.36 at 150.43 will carry long term bullish implications. However, firm break of 135.58/39 will dampen the bullish view and turn focus back to 122.36 low.

In the bigger picture, outlook is mixed up a bit with last week’s sharp decline. But still, as long as 146.96 key support holds, medium term outlook remains bullish. Rise from 122.36 is in favor to extend to 61.8% retracement of 195.86 to 122.36 at 167.78. However, break of 146.96 support will indicate trend reversal. Such decline is seen as a correction and we’d look for strong support from 144.45 to bring rebound. On the upside, break of 149.73 support turned resistance will argue that the pull back is completed and turn bias back to the upside for retesting 152.82 high. GBP/JPY Weekly Outlook

GBP/JPY stayed in range above 155.33 last week and outlook is unchanged. Initial bias stays neutral this week and further decline is in favor. On the downside, break of 155.33 low will resume the fall from 172.11 to 153.70 fibonacci level next.
