GBP/JPY Weekly Outlook

GBP/JPY rose further last week but failed to break through 168.67 resistance. Initial bias remains neutral this week first. On the upside, decisive break of 168.67 resistance will resume larger up trend. Next near term target is 100% projection of 155.57 to 168.67 from 159.97 at 173.07. On the downside, below 164.45 minor support will turn bias back to the downside for 159.97 support instead.

In the bigger picture, up trend from 123.94 (2020 low) is still in progress. Sustained break of 61.8% retracement of 195.86 (2015 high) to 122.75 (2016 low) at 167.93 will be a long term bullish signal, and could pave the way back to 195.86 high. This will now remain the favored case as long as 155.57 support holds, even in case of deep pull back.

In the longer term picture, rise from 122.75 could be the third leg the the pattern from 116.83 (2011 low). Further rise will remain in favor as long as 55 month EMA (now at 149.32) holds. Sustained break of 61.8% retracement of 195.86 to 122.75 at 167.93. will pave the way to 195.86 (2015 high).

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains neutral for the moment. On the downside, below 151.14 will bring deeper fall back to retest 148.43. On the upside, though, break of 153.42 resistance will resume the rebound from 148.43 to retest 156.05 high.

In the bigger picture, rise from 123.94 is seen as the third leg of the pattern from 122.75 (2016 low). Focus remains on 156.59 resistance (2018 high). Sustained break there should confirm long term bullish trend reversal. Next target is 61.8% retracement of 195.86 (2015 high) to 122.75 at 167.93. On the downside, sustained break of 149.03 support, however, will argue that rise from 123.94 has completed. Further break of 142.71 would open up the bearish case for retesting 122.75 low.

As long as 151.85 minor resistance holds, pull back from 153.39 should extend lower for 146.96 key support level. We’d look for strong support from there to bring rebound. On the upside, above 151.85 minor resistance will indicate that the pull back is finished. And intraday bias will be turned back to the upside for 153.39.

In the bigger picture, outlook is mixed up a bit with last week’s sharp decline. But still, as long as 146.96 key support holds, medium term outlook remains bullish. Rise from 122.36 is in favor to extend to 61.8% retracement of 195.86 to 122.36 at 167.78. However, break of 146.96 support will indicate trend reversal. And the corrective structure of rebound from 122.36 will argue that larger down trend is resuming for a new low below 122.26.

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains neutral as range trading continues. Consolidation from 168.67 could still extend further. Break of 166.31 resistance will be the first sign of up trend resumption. meanwhile, break of 159.42 will bring deeper fall towards 155.57 support next.

A temporary low should be in place at 139.59 with the current recovery, ahead of 139.29/47 key support zone. Intraday bias in GBP/JPY is turned neutral for consolidation first. Stronger recovery could be seen through 4 hour 55 EMA (now at 141.46). But near term outlook will stay bearish as long as 143.93 resistance holds. On the downside, decisive break of 139.29/47 will carry larger bearish implications.

In the bigger picture, as long as 139.29 cluster support (50% retracement of 122.36 to 156.59 at 139.47) holds, up trend from 122.36 (2016 low) could still extend beyond 156.69 high. However, decisive break of 139.29/47 will suggest that such up trend is completed and turn outlook bearish. In that case, next target is 61.8% retracement at 135.43.

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains on the upside. Current rise from 191.34, as the second leg of the corrective pattern from 200.53, should target 100% projection of 191.34 to 180.07 from 195.02 at 200.75. On the downside, below 197.07 will turn intraday bias neutral first. Further break of 195.02 will argue that the third leg has started, and target 191.34 support and possibly below.

In the bigger picture, a medium term top could be in place at 200.53 after breaching 199.80 long term fibonacci level. As long as 55 W EMA (now at 183.41) holds, fall from there is seen as correcting the rise from 178.32 only. However, sustained break of 55 W EMA will argue that larger scale correction is underway and target 178.32 support.

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains neutral for the moment and more consolidation could be seen. Further decline is expected and break of 131.68 will resume the decline from 139.73 for 129.27 support. Decisive break there will confirm completion of rebound from 123.94. Deeper fall would be seen to retest 123.94 low.

In the bigger picture, we’re seeing price actions from 122.75 (2016 low) as a sideway consolidation pattern. As long as 147.95 resistance holds, an eventual downside breakout remains in favor. However, firm break of 147.95 will raise the chance of long term bullish reversal. Focus will then be turned to 156.59 resistance for confirmation.

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Intraday bias in GBP/USD stays mildly on the downside as fall from 147.76 would extend to 55 day EMA (now at 143.48). Break there will target 135.58 key support level again. On the upside, though, decisive break of 148.09/42 will pave the way to long term fibonacci level at 150.43.

In the bigger picture, rise from medium term bottom at 122.36 is expected to continue to 38.2% retracement of 196.85 to 122.36 at 150.43. Decisive break there will carry long term bullish implications and pave the way to 61.8% retracement at 167.78. In case the sideway pattern from 148.42 extends, we’d be looking for strong support from 135.58 and 50% retracement of 122.36 to 148.42 at 135.39 to contain downside.

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains neutral at this point. On the upside, above 150.92 minor resistance will turn bias back to the upside for 152.54. Firm break there will suggest that correction from 156.05 has completed, and turn near term outlook bullish for retesting this high. On the downside, however, sustained break of 149.03 key support will carry larger bearish implication and target 13.78 fibonacci level.

In the bigger picture, rise from 123.94 is seen as the third leg of the pattern from 122.75 (2016 low). As long as 149.03 support holds, such rise would still resume at a later stage. However, sustained break of 149.03 support will indicate rejection by 156.59 (2018 high). Fall from 156.05 would at least be correcting the whole rise from 123.94 (2020 low). Deeper fall would be seen back 38.2% retracement of 123.94 to 156.05 at 143.78 first.

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains neutral for consolidations in range of 136.78/140.70. On the downside, break of 136.78 will extend the pattern from 142.71 with a third leg. Deeper fall would be seen to 134.40 support next. On the upside, break of 140.70 will invalidate this view and extend the rebound from 133.03.

In the bigger picture, rise from 123.94 is seen as a rising leg of the sideway consolidation pattern from 122.75 (2016 low). As long as 147.95 resistance holds, an eventual downside breakout remains in favor. However, firm break of 147.95 will raise the chance of long term bullish reversal. Focus will then be turned to 156.59 resistance for confirmation.

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY stays mildly on the downside. The consolidation pattern from 143.18 could have completed at 149.30 already. Deeper fall would be seen back to 143.18/76 support zone first. On the upside, however, above 149.30 will bring turn bias to the upside for 149.99 resistance

In the bigger picture, no change in the view that decline from 156.59 is a corrective move. In case of another fall, strong support should be seen above 139.29 cluster support (50% retracement of 122.36 to 156.59 at 139.47) to contain downside and bring rebound. Meanwhile, break of 153.84 should confirm that the correction is completed and target 156.59 and above to resume the medium term up trend.

In the bigger picture, as long as 176.29 support holds, larger up trend from 123.94 (202 low) should still be in progress. Break of 186.75 will target 195.86 (2015 high). Nevertheless, firm break of 176.29 will confirm medium term topping, and bring lengthier and deeper consolidations.

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 141.12; (P) 141.49; (R1) 142.14; More

GBP/JPY is trading in range of 138.53/142.79 and intraday bias stays neutral for the moment. Overall, price actions from 148.42 are seen as a corrective pattern. Below 138.53 will bring deeper fall, possibly through 136.44 support. But strong support could be seen at 50% retracement of 122.36 to 148.42 at 135.39 to bring rebound. Above 142.79 will turn bias back to the upside for 144.77 and above.

In the bigger picture, price actions from 122.36 medium term bottom are still seen as a corrective pattern. Main focus is on 38.2% retracement of 195.86 to 122.36 at 150.42. Rejection from there will turn the cross into medium term sideway pattern with a test on 122.36 low next. Though, sustained break of 150.42 will extend the rebound towards 61.8% retracement at 167.78.

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

GBP/JPY recovery after diving to 197.18 support, and intraday bias is turned neutral first. Nevertheless, current development suggests that rise from 191.34 has completed at 200.72 after rejection by 200.53. On the downside, break of 197.18 will resume the fall to 155.02. Further break of 195.02 will target 191.34 support next.

In the bigger picture, as long as 188.63 resistance turned support holds, long term up trend is expected to continue. Sustained trading above 200.53 will pave the way to 100% projection of 155.33 to 188.63 from 178.32 at 211.62.

GBP/JPY Weekly Outlook

GBP/JPY edged higher to 158.04 last week but failed to break through 158.19 resistance and retreated sharply. Initial bias is neutral this week first. On the downside, break of 155.11 minor support should argue that corrective pattern from 158.19 has started another falling leg. Intraday bias will be back on the downside for 152.88 support. Break there will target 148.94. Nevertheless, on the upside, sustained break of 158.19 will resume larger up trend.

In the bigger picture, price actions from 158.19 are seen as developing into a consolidation pattern to up trend from 123.94 (2020 low). Downside should be contained by 123.94 to 158.19 at 145.10 to bring rebound. Firm break of 158.19 will resume the up trend to long term fibonacci level at 167.93. However, sustained break of 145.10 will raise the chance of trend reversal and target 61.8% retracement at 137.02.

In the longer term picture, as long as 55 month EMA (now at 147.30) holds, we’d still favor more rally to 61.8% retracement of 195.86 to 122.75 at 167.93. But sustained trading below 55 month EMA will at least neutralize medium term bullishness and re-open the chance of revisiting 122.75 low (2016 low).

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains neutral at this point. On the upside, break of 140.70 resistance will resume the choppy rebound from 133.03. Intraday bias will be turned to the upside for retesting 142.71 high. On the downside, break of 137.90 will revive the case that corrective rise from 133.03 has completed. Intraday bias will be turned back to the downside for 134.40 support.

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 149.91; (P) 150.57; (R1) 151.25; More…

GBP/JPY’s rebound from 144.97 is trying to resume today but focus stays on 150.92 resistance. Firm break there will extend the rise to 61.8% retracement of 156.59 to 144.97 at 152.15 and above. The price actions from 144.97 are still corrective looking. Hence, we’ll look for sign of loss of upside momentum as it approaches 156.59 high. However, break of 148.37 minor support should confirm rejection from 150.92 resistance. In that case, deeper fall should be seen through 144.97 to resume the decline from 156.59.

In the bigger picture, the case for medium term reversal has been building up. There is bearish divergence condition in daily MACD. 146.96 support was taken out. And GBP/JPY was rejected by 55 month EMA. Break of 38.2% retracement of 122.36 to 156.59 at 143.51 will pave the way to 61.8% retracement at 135.43 and below. This will now be the preferred case as long as 150.92 resistance holds. However, sustained trading above 150.92 will argue that the larger rise from 122.36 might still be in progress for another high above 156.59.

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 146.47; (P) 146.78; (R1) 147.25; More…

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains neutral as range trading continues below 148.10. On the upside, above 148.10 will resume the rebound from 143.18 and target 149.99, and then 153.84 resistance. However, break of 145.82 minor support will argue that the rebound from 143.18 is completed and bring retest of this low.

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 149.08; (P) 150.26; (R1) 150.89; More…

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY is turned neutral again. On the downside, break of 149.52 will resume fall from 158.19 to 100% projection of 158.19 to 152.35 from 154.70 at 148.86 next, which is close to 148.93 key structural support. Decisive break there will carry larger bearish implication and target 161.8% projection at 145.25 next.

In the bigger picture, the break of medium term channel support, and bearish divergence condition in week MACD are raising the chance of medium term topping at 158.19. Firm break of 148.93 support will argue that GBP/JPY is at least correcting the whole rise from 123.94 (2020 low). In this case, deeper fall would be seen to 38.2% retracement of 123.94 to 158.19 at 145.10. Nevertheless, strong rebound from 148.93 will retain medium term bullishness for another rise through 158.19 at a later stage.

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 163.60; (P) 164.26; (R1) 165.08; More…

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains neutral and outlook is unchanged. On the upside, break of 165.99 resume the whole rebound from 155.33 to 169.26 resistance next. On the downside, however, break of 162.95 minor support will mix up the outlook and turn intraday bias to the downside for 158.24 support instead.

In the bigger picture, as long as 38.2% retracement of 123.94 (2020 low) to 172.11 (2022 high) at 153.70 holds, medium term bullishness is retained. That is, larger up trend from 123.94 (2020 low) is still in progress. Break of 172.11 high to resume such up trend is expected at a later stage.
