GBP/JPY lose some upside momentum ahead 169.07 resistance and intraday bias is turned neutral first. In the upside, break of 169.07 resistance will argue that larger up trend is ready to resume through 172.11 high. however, break of 166.08 minor support will turn bias back to the downside to extend the corrective pattern from 172.11 with another fall.

In the bigger picture, there is no clear sign of medium term topping yet. Up trend from 123.94 (2020 low) could still resume through 172.11 high at a later stage. However, firm break of 159.71 support will argue that it’s already in correction to the up trend from 123.94, and deeper decline would be seen back towards 148.93 support.

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains neutral and outlook is unchanged. The favored case is still that correction from 186.75 has completed at 178.02. Above 183.79 will resume the rise from 178.02 to retest 186.75 high. However, break of 181.23 will dampen this view, and turn bias back to the downside for 178.02 instead.

In the bigger picture, fall from 186.75 is seen as a corrective move only. As long as 176.29 support holds, larger up trend from 123.94 (202 low) should still be in progress. Break of 186.75 will target 195.86 (2015 high). Nevertheless, firm break of 176.29 will confirm medium term topping, and bring lengthier and deeper consolidations.

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 136.51; (P) 137.41; (R1) 139.00; More…

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains mildly on the upside as rebound from 131.51 short term bottom is extending. Strong resistance should be seen at 139.88 key resistance to limit upside. On the downside, break of 135.66 minor support will turn bias to the downside for retesting 131.51 low. Overall, larger down trend from 155.59 is expected to resume later after the consolidation completes.

In the bigger picture, corrective medium term rise from 122.36 (2016 low) has completed at 156.69 already. That came after failing to break through 55 month EMA. Fall from 156.59 (2018 high) is seen as resuming the long term down trend from 195.86 (2015 high). Below 131.51 will target 122.36 low first. Break of 122.36 will target 116.83 low first (2011 low). And this will now remain the preferred case as long as 139.88 support turned resistance holds. Sustained break of 139.88 will mix up the outlook and we’ll reassess on the final structure of the rebound from 131.51.

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 150.98; (P) 151.44; (R1) 152.15; More…

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains mildly on the upside at this point. Correction from 156.05 might have completed at 148.43, after defending 38.2% retracement of 136.96 to 156.05 at 148.75 Further rise should be seen to 153.46 resistance first. Break will bring retest of 156.05 high. On the downside, below 150.71 minor support will turn intraday bias neutral again first.

In the bigger picture, rise from 123.94 is seen as the third leg of the pattern from 122.75 (2016 low). Focus remains on 156.59 resistance (2018 high). Sustained break there should confirm long term bullish trend reversal. Next target is 61.8% retracement of 195.86 (2015 high) to 122.75 at 167.93. On the downside, sustained break of 149.03 support, however, will argue that rise from 123.94 has completed. Further break of 142.71 would open up the bearish case for retesting 122.75 low.

GBP/JPY Weekly Outlook

GBP/JPY recovered last week but failed to sustain 4 hour 55 EMA and weakened again. Initial bias is neutral this week first. Break of 141.43 will extend the decline from 148.09. In such case, intraday bias is turned to the downside for 61.8% retracement of 135.58 to 148.09 at 140.35. At this point, we’d still expect rebound from 122.36 to resume later. Hence, we’d look for strong support below 140.35 to contain downside and bring rebound. On the upside, break of 143.93 will turn bias back to the upside for 148.09 resistance.

In the bigger picture, rise from 122.36 medium term bottom is still expected to extend to of 195.86 to 122.36 at 150.42. And decisive break there could pave the way to 61.8% retracement at 167.78. However, as the cross is starting to lose upside momentum, rejection below 150.42 and break of 135.58 support will indicate reversal and bring deeper fall back to retest 122.36 instead.

In the longer term picture, based on the impulsive structure of the decline from 195.86 to 122.36, such fall should not be completed yet. But we will now pay close attention to the structure of the rise from 122.36 to determine whether it’s a corrective move, or an impulsive move. That would decide whether a break of 116.83 low would be seen.

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains on the upside at this point. Current up trend from 123.94 should now target 100% projection of 123.94 to 142.71 from 133.03 at 151.80 next. On the downside, below 147.52 minor support will turn intraday bias neutral and bring consolidations first, before staging another rally.

In the bigger picture, rise from 123.94 is seen as the third leg of the sideway pattern from 122.75 (2016 low). With 147.95 resistance taken out, further rally would now be seen to 156.59 resistance (2018 high), Sustained break there should confirm long term bullish trend reversal. On the downside, break of 142.71 resistance turned support is needed to be the first sign of completion of the rise from 123.94. Otherwise, outlook will remain bullish even in case of deep pull back.

GBP/JPY Weekly Outlook

GBP/JPY stayed in range of 142.58/145.67 last week and outlook is unchanged. Initial bias remains neutral this week first. On the upside, break of 145.67 will target 38.2% retracement of 156.59 to 139.88 at 146.26. Decisive break there will be a strong signal that fall from 156.59 has completed at 139.88, ahead of 139.29/47 key support zone. Further rally should then be seen to 149.30 resistance for confirmation. On the downside, though, break of 142.58 will turn bias back to the downside for retesting 139.88 low instead.

In the bigger picture, at this point decline from 156.59 is still seen as a corrective move. Focus remains on 139.29 cluster support (50% retracement of 122.36 to 156.59 at 139.47). Strong rebound from there will re-affirm the bullish case that rise from 122.36 is still to extend through 156.59 high. However, sustained break of 139.29/47 should confirm medium term reversal. GBP/JPY would then target a retest on 122.26 (2016 low).

In the longer term picture, the failure to sustain above 55 month EMA (now at 152.97) is mixing up the outlook. Nonetheless, as long as 139.29 holds, rise from 122.36 is in favor to extend to 50% retracement of 195.86 (2015high) to 122.36 (2016 low) at 159.11, and possibly further to 61.8% retracement at 167.78 before completion. However, firm break of 139.29 will turn focus back to 116.83/122.36 support zone instead.

GBP/JPY Mid-Day Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 148.53; (P) 149.15; (R1) 149.75; More….

GBP/JPY drops sharply after hitting 150.29 but it’s holding above 147.03 minor support so far. Intraday bias is neutral first. While another rise cannot be ruled out, we maintain the view that rebound from 144.97 is a corrective move. Therefore, strong resistance is expected from 150.92 (50% retracement of 156.59 to 144.97 at 150.78) to bring fall resumption. On the downside, below 147.03 will bring retest of 144.97 low first. Break will extend the decline from 156.59 to 143.51 medium term fibonacci level next. However, sustained break of 150.92 will pave the way back to retest 156.69 high.

In the bigger picture, the case for medium term reversal continues to build up. There is bearish divergence condition in daily MACD. 146.96 support was taken out. And GBP/JPY was rejected by 55 month EMA. Break of 38.2% retracement of 122.36 to 156.59 at 143.51 will pave the way to 61.8% retracement at 135.43 and below. This will now be the preferred case as long as 150.92 resistance holds.

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 145.29; (P) 145.87; (R1) 146.79; More…

GBP/JPY rebounds strongly today but stays in range below 148.87. Intraday bias remains neutral first. As long as 143.72 support holds, further rise is in favor. On the upside, decisive break of 149.48 key resistance will carry larger bullish implication and target 156.58 resistance next. However. sustained break of 143.72 will indicate near term reversal, after rejection by 149.48 key resistance. In that case, intraday bias will be turned to the downside for 141.00 support first.

In the bigger picture, focus is now staying on 149.98 key resistance. Decisive break there should confirm that medium term fall from 156.59 (2018 high) has completed at 131.51 already. Rise from 131.51 is then seen as the third leg of the corrective pattern from 122.36 (2016 low). GBP/JPY should then target 156.59 and above. However, rejection by 149.98 will retain medium term bearishness and could extend the fall from 156.59 through 131.51 to 122.36.

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains on the upside for 168.40 resistance. Decisive break there will resume larger up trend. Next target is 100% projection of 150.95 to 168.40 from 155.57 at 173.02. On the downside, below 165.26 minor support will delay the bullish case and turn intraday bias neutral first.

In the bigger picture, up trend from 123.94 (2020 low) is still in progress. Sustained break of 61.8% retracement of 195.86 (2015 high) to 122.75 (2016 low) at 167.93 will be a long term bullish signal, and could pave the way back to 195.86 high. This will now remain the favored case as long as 150.95 support holds, even in case of deep pull back. However, firm break of 150.95 will indicate rejection by 167.93, and bearish trend reversal.

Outlook in GBP/JPY is unchanged as corrective pattern from 168.40 is extending. Break of 159.59 will extend the correction from 168.40 lower. Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains on the upside for retesting 168.40 high. Firm break there will resume larger up trend. On the downside, below 160.92 minor support will turn bias back to the downside for extending the correction from 168.40 with another falling leg.

GBP/JPY Weekly Outlook

GBP/JPY stayed in range of 183.35/186.75 last week and outlook is unchanged. Initial bias remains neutral this week first. On the downside, break of 183.35 will resume the correction from 186.75, and target 55 D EMA (now at 181.76). Nevertheless, firm break of 186.75 will resume larger up trend.

In the bigger picture, up trend from 123.94 (2020 low) is in progress. Next target is 195.86 (2015 high). This will remain the favored case as long as 176.29 support holds, even in case of deeper pull back.

In the longer term picture, rise from 122.75 (2016 low) in still in progress to retest 195.86 (2015 high). Based on current momentum, break of 195.86 is in favor. But strong resistance could still be seen from 61.8% retracement of 251.09 (2007 high) to 116.83 (2011 low) at 199.80 to limit upside on first attempt.

GBP/JPY Weekly Outlook

GBP/JPY stayed in range above 155.33 last week and outlook is unchanged. Initial bias stays neutral this week and further decline is in favor. On the downside, break of 155.33 low will resume the fall from 172.11 to 153.70 fibonacci level next. On the upside, sustained trading above 55 day EMA (now at 161.04) will turn bias to the upside, for stronger rise back to 169.26/172.11 resistance zone.

In the bigger picture, as long as 163.02 support turned resistance holds, decline from 172.11 medium term top is expected to continue to 38.2% retracement of 123.94 to 172.11 at 153.70. Sustained break there will raise the change of trend reversal and target 61.8% retracement at 142.34. Nevertheless, break of 163.02 support turned resistance will argue that the decline has completed, and retain medium term bullishness.

In the longer term picture, as long as 55 month EMA (now at 152.38) holds, rise from 122.75 could still extend higher at a later stage.

GBP/JPY Weekly Outlook

GBP/JPY’s sharp decline last week dampened our original bullish view. Initial bias stays on the downside this week. Fall from 158.19 would target 148.93 key support level. On the upside, though, break of 156.22 resistance will revive near term bullishness and target 158.19 high instead.

In the bigger picture, rise from 123.94 is seen as the third leg of the pattern from 122.75 (2016 low). The stay above 55 week EMA affirms medium term bullishness. Current rise should now target 61.8% retracement 195.86 (2015 high) to 122.75 at 167.93 next. In any case, outlook will remain bullish as long as 148.93 structural support hold, even in case of deep pull back.

In the longer term picture, GBP/JPY could have set up a long term up trend already with break of 156.69 resistance, and the stay above 55 month EMA. Current rise from 122.75 could target a test on 195.86 (2015 high).

GBP/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 160.87; (P) 161.77; (R1) 162.33; More…

Range trading continues in GBP/JPY and intraday bias remains neutral. Corrective pattern from 168.67 would extend for a while. On the upside, break of 163.91 will bring stronger rise to 166.31 resistance. On the downside, below 160.07 will turn bias to the downside for 159.42 and below.

This will remain the favored case as long as 155.57 support holds, even in case of deep pull back.

GBP/JPY Weekly Outlook

GBP/JPY dropped sharply to as low as 147.02 last week as the decline from 152.82 accelerated. Initial bias stays on the downside this week for 61.8% retracement of 139.29 to 152.82 at 144.45. Such decline is seen as a correction and we’d look for strong support from 144.45 to bring rebound. On the upside, break of 149.73 support turned resistance is needed to indicate completion of the fall. Otherwise, deeper decline will now remain in favor, even in case of recovery. Also, sustained break of 144.45 will put 139.29 key support in focus.

In the bigger picture, medium term rebound from 122.36 is still expected to resume after corrective pull back from 152.82 completes. Firm break of 38.2% retracement of 196.85 to 122.36 at 150.43 will carry long term bullish implications. In that case, GBP/JPY could target 61.8% retracement at 167.78. However, break of 139.29 will indicate rejection from 150.43 key fibonacci level. And the three wave corrective structure of rebound from 122.36 will argue that larger down trend is resuming for a new low below 122.26.

In the longer term picture, current rebound argues that the down trend from 195.86 (2015 high) has already completed at 122.36. Focus is now on 55 month EMA (now at 155.14). Firm break there will suggest that rise form 122.36 is developing into a long term move that target 195.86 again. And, price actions from 116.83 (2011 low) is indeed a sideway pattern that could last more than a decade. However, firm break of 139.29 will suggests that the long term down trend is still in progress and could break 116.83 low ahead.

Intraday bias in GBP/JPY stays neutral at this point. On the downside, break of 132.40 minor support will suggest completion of corrective rebound from 123.94. Intraday bias will be turned back to the downside for retesting 123.94 low. In case of another rise, upside should be limited by 61.8% retracement of 144.95 to 123.94 at 136.92 to bring near term reversal.

In the bigger picture, price actions from 122.75 (2016 low) are merely a sideway consolidation pattern, which has completed at 147.96. Larger down trend from 195.86 (2015 high) as well as that from 251.09 (2007 high) are possibly resuming. Break of 122.75 should target 61.8% projection of 195.86 to 122.75 from 147.95 at 102.76 next. In any case, outlook will remain bearish as long as 147.95 resistance holds.

Break of 152.82 will extend the larger rise from 122.36 to 61.8% projection of 122.36 to 148.42 from 139.29 at 155.39 next.

In the bigger picture, medium term rebound from 122.36 is in progress. Firm break of 38.2% retracement of 196.85 to 122.36 at 150.43 will carry long term bullish implications. Intraday bias in GBP/JPY remains neutral as consolidation from 144.84 is in progress. Above 144.84 will extend the rebound from 131.51. But we’d expect strong resistance from trend line (now at 147.17) to limit upside, at least on first attempt. On the downside, firm break of 140.62 will suggest completion of the rebound and turn bias to the downside.

In the bigger picture, the strong rebound from 131.51 suggests that medium term fall from 156.59 (2018 high) has completed already. The corrective structure of such decline is turn argues that it’s the second leg of the corrective pattern from 122.36 (2016 low). And this pattern is starting the third leg. On the upside, decisive break of 149.38 will pave the way to 156.59 resistance and above.
