EUR/JPY Weekly Outlook

EUR/JPY’s rebound from 115.86 resumed last week and reached as high as 121.35. Initial bias stays on the upside this week with focus on 100% projection of 115.86 to 120.01 from 117.07 at 121.16. Sustained break there will pave the way to 161.8% projection at 123.78. On the downside, below 120.33 minor support will turn intraday bias neutral and bring consolidations, before staging another rally.

In the bigger picture, current development argues that a medium term bottom is formed at 115.86, on bullish convergence condition in daily MACD, ahead of 114.84 support. Decisive of 120.78 support turned resistance will affirm this case and bring further rise to falling channel resistance (now at 126.00). Reactions from there would decide whether the medium term has reversed. For now, further rise is expected as long as 117.07 support holds.

In the long term picture, EUR/JPY is staying in long term sideway pattern, established since 2000. Fall from 137.49 is seen as a falling leg inside the pattern. This falling leg would target 109.48 (2016 low). With EUR/JPY staying below 55 month EMA, this is the preferred case.

EUR/JPY Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 142.18; (P) 142.90; (R1) 144.25; More….

Intraday bias in EUR/JPY remains neutral for the moment. Further decline could be seen as long as 146.12 resistance holds. Break of 140.75 will resume the fall from 148.38 to 100% projection of 148.38 to 142.54 from 146.12 at 140.28. Firm break there could prompt downside acceleration to 161.8% projection at 136.67 next.

In the bigger picture, considering bearish divergence condition in weekly MACD, 148.38 could be a medium term top already. Fall from there is probably correcting whole up trend from 114.42 (2020 low). Deeper decline would be seen to 55 week EMA (now at 137.37), or further to 38.2% retracement of 114.42 to 148.38 at 135.40 before completion.

Intraday bias in EUR/JPY remains neutral as consolidation from 161.84 is extending. While another dip cannot be ruled out, further rally is expected as long as 158.55 resistance turned support holds. Break of 161.84 will resume the rebound from 153.15 to retest 164.29 high.

In the bigger picture, price actions from 164.29 medium term top are seen as a correction to rise from 139.05 only. As long as 148.48 resistance turned support holds (2022 high), larger up trend from 114.42 (2020 low) is expected to resume through 164.29 at a later stage.

Intraday bias in EUR/JPY remains neutral as range trading continues. On the downside, break of 137.37 will resume the whole decline from 148.38 to 135.40 fibonacci level next. However, firm break of 142.84 will argue that the correction from 148.38 has completed, and bring stronger rise back to 146.71 resistance.

In the bigger picture, as long as 55 week EMA (now at 138.62) holds, larger up trend from 114.42 (2020 low) is still in progress for 149.76 long term resistance. However, firm break of 55 week EMA will bring deeper fall to 38.2% retracement of 114.42 to 148.38 at 135.40. Sustained break there will raise the chance of trend reversal, and target 61.8% retracement at 127.39.

Intraday bias in EUR/JPY remains on the downside at this point. Current fall from 148.38 should target 135.40 fibonacci level. On the upside, above 140.00 minor resistance will turn intraday bias neutral first. But further decline will be expected as long as 142.92 resistance holds, in case of recovery.

In the bigger picture, as long as 55 week EMA (now at 138.54) holds, larger up trend from 114.42 (2020 low) is still in progress for 149.76 long term resistance. However, firm break of 55 week EMA will bring deeper fall to 38.2% retracement of 114.42 to 148.38 at 135.40. Sustained break there will raise the chance of trend reversal, and target 61.8% retracement at 127.39.

Intraday bias in EUR/JPY remains neutral as it’s staying in corrective trading below 134.37 temporary top. We’re favoring the case that medium term up trend is nearly ready to resume. Break of 134.48 will target 61.8% projection of 127.55 to 134.48 from 131.16 at 135.44 and then 100% projection at 138.09. However, firm break of 131.16 support will now indicate near term trend reversal and turn outlook bearish for 127.55 key support.

In the bigger picture, medium term rise from 109.03 (2016 low) is seen as at the same degree as the down trend from 149.76 (2014 high) to 109.03 (2016 low). 61.8% retracement of 149.76 to 109.03 at 134.20 is already met. Sustained break there will pave the way to key long term resistance zone at 141.04/149.76. However, break of 127.55 support will suggest medium term topping and will turn outlook bearish for deeper fall back to 114.84/124.08 support zone at least.

Intraday bias in EUR/JPY remains on the upside at this point and outlook is unchanged. Corrective pattern from 134.11 might have completed at 124.37 already. Further rise should be seen to retest 133.13/134.11 resistance zone first. Decisive break there will resume larger up trend. However, break of 130.69 minor support will mix up the near term outlook and turn intraday bias neutral first.

In the bigger picture, medium term outlook remains neutral for now. Price actions from 134.11 are so far still seen as a corrective pattern. That is, rise from 114.42 (2020 low) is in favor to resume at a later stage. But before that, the corrective pattern from 134.11 could still extend further, sideway or downward. In the latter case, break of 124.37 will target 61.8% retracement of 114.42 to 134.11 at 121.94.

In the bigger picture, up trend from 114.42 (2020 low) is seen as the third leg of the pattern from 109.30 (2016 low). Further rally is in favor as long as 134.11 resistance turned support holds, even in case of deep pull back. Next target is 149.76 (2015 high). However, sustained break of 134.11 will be a sign of medium term bearish reversal and turn focus to 124.37 support for confirmation.

Another fall could be seen but downside should be contained by 38.2% retracement of 114.84 to 125.80 at 121.61 to bring rise resumption. We’re staying mildly bullish in the cross. EUR/JPY is still holding above 119.99 cluster support (38.2% retracement of 115.86 to 122.65 at 120.05) for now. Intraday bias remains neutral first. Considering bearish divergence condition in daily MACD, rebound from 115.86 could have completed at 122.65, ahead of medium term channel resistance. Firm break of 119.99 should confirm and bring deeper fall to 61.8% retracement at 118.45 and below. Nevertheless, strong rebound from current level will retain near term bullishness and turn focus back to 122.65 high.

In the bigger picture, EUR/JPY is still staying in the falling channel established since 137.49 (2018 high). Rise from 115.86 is seen as a corrective rise for the moment. Strong resistance could be seen at falling channel resistance (now at 124.49) to limit upside. However, sustained break of the channel resistance will carry larger bullish implication and target 127.50 key resistance next.

Despite breaching 130.26 to 130.33, there is no follow through buying in EUR/JPY. Upside momentum also stays weak as seen in 4 hour MACD. Intraday bias remains neutral first. On the upside, firm break of 130.26 will resume the rebound form 124.61 and target 133.47 key near term resistance next. On the downside, however, break of 127.78 minor support will indicate completion of the rebound from 124.61. Intraday bias will be turned back to the downside for 124.61 first.

In the bigger picture, despite rebounding strongly ahead of 124.08 resistance turned support, there was no clear follow through buying. Note again that there is bearish divergence in daily MACD. Firm break of 124.08 will confirm trend reversal. That is, whole rise from 109.03 (2016 low) has completed at 137.49 already. In that case, deeper fall should be seen back to 61.8% retracement of 109.03 to 137.49 at 119.90 and below. Nonetheless, decisive break of 133.47 key resistance will likely extend the rise from 109.03 through 137.49 high.

EUR/JPY is staying in range of 128.94/132.40 and intraday bias remains neutral. Also, with 132.40 resistance intact, near term outlook remains neutral and another fall is expected. On the downside break of 128.94 will extend the whole fall from 137.49 to 126.61 medium term fibonacci level next. Nonetheless, break of 132.40 should confirm short term bottoming and turn bias back to the upside for stronger rebound.

In the bigger picture, current development argues that rise from 109.03 (2016 low) has completed at 137.49, on bearish divergence condition in weekly MACD. Deeper fall should be seen to 38.2% retracement of 109.03 to 137.49 at 126.61 first. Sustained break there would pave the way to 61.8% retracement at 119.90. On the upside, break of 132.40 resistance will indicate that the pull back is completed and bring retest of 137.49. But still, break of 137.49 is needed to confirm medium term rise resumption. Otherwise, outlook is neutral at best for consolidations.

Intraday bias in EUR/JPY remains on the upside for 122.88 resistance. As noted before, corrective fall from 124.08 has completed at 114.84 already. Break of 122.88 will likely extend the larger rise from 109.20 through 124.08 resistance to 126.09 key resistance level. On the downside, though, 117.81 minor support will turn focus back to 114.84 low instead.

In the bigger picture, price actions from 109.20 is still seen as a corrective move for the moment. But current development suggests that the first leg is finished at 109.20, second leg at 114.84. And rise from 114.84 is possibly developing into the third leg. Further rise will now be mildly in favor through 124.08 resistance. Strong break of 126.09 support turned resistance will confirm completion of whole fall from 149.76 at 109.20.
