As suggested in the CFTC Commitments of Traders report in the week ended November 24, NET SHORT of USD Index futures added +1 780 contracts to 2 754. Speculative long positions increased +107 contracts and short positions gained +1 887 contracts. Concerning European currencies, NET LENGTH in EUR futures rose +4 290 contracts to 138 250. NET SHORT of GBP futures declined -2 616 contracts to 17 130 contracts during the week. British pound strengthened as the EU and the UK are about to reach a deal. Consolidation has been seen over the past several trading days as price is approaching last September’s high of 1.3480.
On safe-haven currencies, NET LENGTH on CHF futures edged higher, by +62 contracts to 14 986. By contrast, NET LENGTH on JPY futures rose +10 575 contracts to 10 242. Concerning commodity currencies, NET SHORT of AUD futures dropped -846 contracts to 5 277. Separately, NZD futures’ NET LENGTH decreased 556 contracts to 8 312 during the week. Meanwhile, NET SHORT for CAD futures decreased 3 513 contracts to 16 846 contracts.
