According to the CFTC Commitments of Traders report for the week ended January 7. NET LENGTH for crude oil futures rose + 12 415 contracts to 567 272 for the week. Speculative long positions gained +12 161 contracts while shorts dropped -254 contracts. For refined oil products, NET LENGTH for gasoline added +5 759 contracts to 113 572, while that for heating oil dropped -5 163 contracts to 1 265. NET SHORT for natural gas futures rose +3 937 contracts to 206 104 contracts for the week.
NET LENGTH for gold futures fell -7 494 contracts to 322 291. Speculative long positions added +1 860 contracts, while shorts jumped -7 494. Silver futures’ NET LENGTH decreased +2 475 contracts to 67 253. Speculative long positions added +2 914 contracts while shorts gained +5 389. For PGMs, NET LENGTH of Nymex platinum futures added +118 contracts to 62 281 while that for palladium increased +255 contracts to 11 577.
