According to the CFTC Commitments of Traders report for the week ended December 31. NET LENGTH for crude oil futures gained +4 780 contracts to 554 857 for the week. Speculative long positions added +1 546 contracts while shorts dropped -3 234 contracts. For refined oil products, NET LENGTH for gasoline slipped -918 contracts to 107 813, while that for heating oil gained +3 382 contracts to 6 428. NET SHORT for natural gas futures rose +3 249 contracts to 202 167 contracts for the week. NET LENGTH for gold futures rose +22 273 contracts to 327 925. Speculative long positions gained +17 310 contracts, while shorts fell -4 963. Silver futures’ NET LENGTH increased +7 306 contracts to 69 728. Speculative long positions added +5 280 contracts while shorts fell -2 026. For PGMs, NET LENGTH of Nymex platinum futures gained +5 671 contracts to 62 163 while that for palladium increased +315 contracts to 11 322.
