CFTC Commitments of Traders – Traders Bet on Lower Crude Oil Prices

According to the CFTC Commitments of Traders report for the week ended August 1, NET LENGTH for crude oil futures declined -10 560 contracts to 387 291 for the week. Speculative long positions gained +2 298 contracts and shorts jumped +12 858 contracts. For refined oil products, NET LENGTH for gasoline added +1 360 contracts to 75 232, while heating oil drifted to NET LENGTH of 5 105 contracts for the week. NET SHORT for natural gas futures rose +8 362 contracts to 199 785 contracts for the week.

NET LENGTH for gold futures gained +3 138 contracts to 254 388. Speculative long positions added +333 contracts, while shorts fell -3 805. For silver futures, speculative long positions gained +1 153 contracts while shorts declined -8 383. NET LENGTH for silver futures soared +9 536 contracts to 64 297. For PGMs, NET LENGTH of Nymex platinum futures rose +4 878 contracts to 25 768 while that for palladium added +375 contracts to 12 846.
